Kitty handed pitching responsibilities here in the 8th and Kitty has been near purrrrfect this year coming out of the pen…..he needs to keep that going tonight.

I like having no nonsense Kittredge at the back end of our bullpen. He comes in, throws his bowling ball fastball that sinks like crazy for strike after strike at the bottom of the zone, and just says hit it if you can.

And Kitty quickly meows…sorry….Kitty quickly mows down the Diamondbacks 1-2-3.

Do we call this as a breakout game for Goldschmidt where he was actually on base (2 times) as many times as he struck out?

Frias center stage for AZ here in the top of the 9th.

Goldy – On 3-2 Goldy could not check his swing on some high heat….one down.

Gorman – Laces a solid single to right.

Arenado – Rips a base hit to left and yes let’s not take anything for granted here…how about we tack on another tally or two, gentlemen.

Contreras- Strikes out swinging on one in the sand…..we’re in the desert….not much dirt in these parts.

Nooty – Gorman to 3rd on a wild pitch. Nooty walks and the bases are full to the brim with Birds.

Siani – Grounds out to Walker at 1st unassisted to retire the side.

And the question begs to be asked….knock on wood, but if injury were to befall Helsley, who would assume closing responsibilities? Can Kitty close? I say YES Kitty can close.

I believe he has done that for at least a short while before. Really, we have at least 3 “closers” with Romero.

Bottom of 9. Helsley on to hopefully make quick work of these Diamondbacks.

Pederson- Bounces out to Winn at short.

Peterson – Whiffs and Helsley is in total command here…..the captain of the ship that is no longer floundering, but rather hitting on all cylinders.

Marte – Strikes out swinging and that’s your ballgame and it’s a happy one. After blowing a 6 run lead, the challenge was an extremely tough one, especially being the visiting team…..and our Csrdinals were more than up to the challenge, which is a very good sign as to what’s to come here in 2024.

    Final score:

    St. Louis Cardinals 9
    Arizona Diamondbacks 6

    Pugs?

Me and Whitey Herdog were on the couch, tuned in for the entire game! Just wasn’t at the computer following the PBP.

Nice to get a win in Arizona! The bats got going and the pen closed the door. Keep it rolling Redbirds!

I see we gave them 3 unearned runs. Yikes. We were lucky to get away with it.

After going the first nine games with no errors, the #STLCards have committed seven errors in the past five games.

Spot on, it certainly was the muscles, Cardinal In France. 6 extra base hits….2 doubles, 2 triples and 2 tape measure round trippers by Arenado and Nooty. Even Victor Scott displayed signs of muscling up by whacking two very long balls, one caught on the right field track and one eclipsing the left fielders head for a double. And it just wasn’t the physical show of strength that Cardinal In France pointed out here, but the mental too. To win a game such as this took great character and inner strength. There simply is no way in heck that the 2023 Cardinal team would have won a game such as this.

Nice seeing Rat and The HerDog staying up late for this thriller. And speaking of “thriller”, did you manage to get in that episode of “Streets of San Francisco” in which you hoping to watch, Rat?

I had a feeling that the 6 run lead wasn’t going to hold up. Thankfully, our boys (with an assist from the TCN faithful) brought home the W in the end. Winn is looking solid with the bat and may have turned the corner. Walker has been better with the glove, but we need the bat to come around. A little life from Goldy and Arenado, and we need more of it. Glad Matz had his blowup late.

I like cleaner games, but a bunch of runs by us was nice to see.
I don’t generally nit Pic the managing like some. I fully understand what a tough job it is. If Oli had left Matz in the game and he had given up the lead, he would be standing at the gallows as we speak. I would have liked to have seen him leave him in. Matz is pitching well, and sooner or later we need for him to get the confidence to work out of these jams. But maybe I’m not saying that if Gallego does the job.

Fell asleep half way through, not long after Marmol pulled Matz. I did not like that move. Understand the whole “third time through” thing, but at some point you gotta let a guy work through it.

Can’t have 4-5 inning starts the norm or by August your bullpen will be gassed.

I agree. I think you have to let Matz pitch to one more guy in that spot to see if he can get that third out and get out of the inning.

Marmol sure does like to burn up his bullpen.

I didn’t see it either and I don’t even have to check the box. One look at the line score tells me it doesn’t matter who’s on the top step. Net bottom line is that a 6 run lead ought to hold up. On a good note, they won the game. Last season this one would have ended in the L column.
