I know it’s shocking. But Soriano with a leadoff walk. He tried hard to walk Chourio on the 3-1 pitch but Chourio swung at it in the dirt. Soriano made sure the 3-2 pitch was even worse to ensure the walk.
Our relief pitchers are clearly under the impression they get a collective team bonus if they get over a certain threshold of walks on the season.
LOL. I talked about doing this move in the trades chat this morning as the only move that makes good sense right now. I guess Chaim was listening.
I think you could swap Torres for Pozo and play Torres some over Victor Scott. It just depends on how much the organization believes it Scott. Torres could be emergency catcher for a partial game if needed to preserve the DH. However, if the organization wants to continue to allow Scott to work through his challenges then having Torres sit at the end of the bench isn’t any more helpful than having Pozo sit there.
I guess you could add Prieto for Saggese so Saggese could play every day at Memphis and Prieto gives us a more legitimate bat off the bench to pinch hit. I’m not sure that’s much of an upgrade but it would potentially allow Saggese to get into a rhythm. That move makes some sense because our bench is void of pinch hitters right now. Blaze Jordan would actually be the best choice for this assuming we were in win-now mode, but we are not.
I just looked him up. You’re right Albert. Clarke is expected back as early as June. I thought he was out for the season. I guess we will see.
I should clarify 2 things above. While I didn’t really care for Clarke as a return on Gray, I did like Fitts and Galle seems to be interesting thus far as the PTBNL. Also, I mentioned that was the only trade I didn’t like. I also didn’t like the Granillo for Soriano trade, but thus far that one looks ok – at least through a short term lens.
This has nothing to do with your injuries question, but I just didn’t like what I had written and wanted to correct it!
I believe Clarke is out all season. Roby is out all or most of the season (chance of a few innings after September 1). I don’t know much about Henderson or Ortiz but the chatter around Henderson hasn’t been positive – as in there’s speculation he may miss the whole season.
IMO – Clarke is a lost cause. That’s the only trade thus far made by Bloom that I didn’t much care for. After he became injured . . . again . . . I liked it even less. I know some have him as a top 10 prospect. I couldn’t even find a way to get him into our top 50. Just so little chance of him actually staying healthy.
4-1 final as the Dodgers do get one. Wrobleski has been one off the best pitchers in baseball this season and today continues that streak. No shame in losing this one.

Booyah – Who do you expect him to use while down 3? Graceffo has pitched a lot lately and Romero, O’Brien, and Stanek pitched yesterday so I’m sure they’d prefer not to use them on back to back days unless they are absolutely needed. That leaves the 3 you mentioned plus Soriano. Plus the Dodgers have lots of lefties in their lineup. Unless we were winning in a close one today, we were always going to see Bruihl and Shuster.
I think the issue is in finding and training guys like McGreevey. It’s easier to measure velocity and pitch movement and train for those. Most guys who don’t have those things get destroyed. In fairness, part of what got McGreevey over the hump was adding a bit of velocity and movement to his stuff – at least initially.
Makes sense. I figured it would probably be Van Dyke. I really like Fajardo though and everything I’m seeing from him. I didn’t know hardly anything about him until the trade and now he’s probably the pitcher I’m most excited about. Him or Franklin anyway. And Hjerpe if he can ever get and stay healthy.
Three balls hit off our infielders gloves. The first one was a borderline error by Winn. The other 2 would have been fantastic plays.
And now a ground ball hit just beyond Urias’ glove as he dives at 3rd. 3-2 now.

Don’t be concerned about O’Brien in this one. It was more good and/or lucky hitting than bad pitching. Riley still looked nasty.
1 more inch and Winn’s ball bounces over the wall to ruin Riley’s save opportunity. Alas, just a double. O’Brien coming in to preserve the shutout and win.

This was a really close month for hitters. Lots of good ones to choose from. I probably would have picked Blaze Jordan, but I’m also supportive of the Flores selection. Torres and Peete also would have been equally great picks. Lots of good hitters. That’s a very positive thing considering all the focus seems to have been on bringing in pitching.
Moving Savacool helps them to not move others too soon. It’s the others they are focused on. Savacool is just filler. He may have a tiny chance to one day throw a few Major League bullpen innings but probably no more than that.
It’s the team’s and fans’ hall of fame. They should be able to what they want with it. It’s their own celebration of their own players. I don’t know why we would need exact rules to try to make an imperfect world still imperfect? I often find that when people try to structure something that is chaotic, they only end up with additional chaos. Taking in both Molina and Pujols this year seems like the only reasonable thing to do. I like Silent George but he has always felt like a borderline candidate simply because of his short tenure and therefore I’m ok either way for him. But there is no way he’s more deserving than Molina or Pujols despite his long wait in line.
Last season felt like we were often getting the toughest match-ups. This season has felt the opposite. There’s a lot of luck in the game of baseball and getting the right team and pitching at the right time is up there with the rest of it. Make hay while it lasts.
Speaking of luck with pitching matchups, we were scheduled to get Woodruff and Misiorowski for the Brewers. It looks like we may miss both now due to recent injuries. Woodruff is almost surely out.
Agreed Bling. He almost never looks comfortable swinging 0-2 and he did there. I really like what I’m seeing out of him the last roughly 5-7 games. I don’t care about homers. I just want to see good at bats. He’s been getting more of those.
Shuster threw an inning Wednesday for Memphis and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits raising his ERA to over 8. But I guess he was freshest given that Pushard pitched the last 2 days and Blewett pitched yesterday. I’m not a fan of this choice, but like I said earlier, they didn’t have any real good options.
Maybe it does work like that. I didn’t think we had to use an option to put him in the minors right when he’s claimed but maybe so. Either way, I don’t think Peralta would have been called up. It will likely be Pushard. But I think I would choose Blewett if it were me.
There aren’t any good options right now so Pushard may be it as a placeholder. Unlike “27”, I am opposed to Gastellum. He does not appear to be ready. While he may do better than Pushard, I’m still in favor of getting better long term results as opposed to short term sacrifices.
Right now, the options basically are:
1) Pushard. He’s probably bad and has been bad throughout. He’s nearing the end of his rehab and cannot be optioned.
2) Roycroft. Also mostly bad although potentially a little better than Pushard.
3) New lefty they just picked up. I have no idea on him but he’s been bad so far this year and my assumption is they will work to fix him first.
4) Return Pushard to Miami and add someone else to the 40-man. There aren’t a lot of options that make sense if you’re focused on long-term development. Shuster could return but he’s been terrible since passing through waivers. The starters need to keep starting for depth purposes. I could see an argument for Rincon who will be a free agent again after this season so they could try him just to try him. However, he hasn’t even been at AAA long. Rajcic could have a similar argument for him with slightly different circumstances than Rincon. Or maybe Blewett would make sense as a placeholder.
I think I’d return Pushard and promote Blewett. But in this case, I don’t think there’s an obvious good choice.
