Edguardo misses location twice to Walker and it ends his no-hit bid.
June 23, 2026 at 7:29 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #77 thread – Tuesday, June 23 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310803I know you all will be surprised. Gorman struck out swinging in his first Memphis at bat. It’s what he does.
Also, I know Wetherholt is way down the list on voting for second baseman in the All-Star game but I think I saw Pedro Pages ahead of him. Pages one game at 2B last season made a lasting impression. Poor JJ.

June 23, 2026 at 7:01 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #77 thread – Tuesday, June 23 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310798Same pitch pattern again and again and again to Walker.
Thanks Steffen! Maybe he just didn’t want to say much, but I’d like to hear a more focused version of Jesus Baez. When you asked what he’s working on, he basically said nothing specifically. That’s a bit worrisome.
ZTR – The simple answer is yes. The formula is somewhat complicated, but different positions get credited differently with WAR. SS, CF, 2B, and C are far more valuable.
I expected JJ to be a really good hitter and take lots of great at bats. That part hasn’t really surprised me at all. I said he was the best hitter or second best hitter on the team coming out of Spring Training. I did not at all expect this level of defense though. At 2B, I expected maybe a little above average defense. Fortunately though, he has been first class gold glove level defense. Some of the double plays he has been turning haven’t been done by a Cardinals second baseman in a really long time. Great job JJ.
June 23, 2026 at 7:32 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #77 thread – Tuesday, June 23 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310732Maybe Bling. I would think Stanek, Romero, and O’Brien would all be unavailable for today’s game and they would probably prefer to keep Soriano out too. That’s not a great recipe for winning. And even more treacherous on a Leahy day.
The problem is that none of those 4 who I mentioned can be optioned. Therefore, they are stuck with 4 relievers regardless of if they call someone up.
June 22, 2026 at 9:17 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310697Not as much on offense for us tonight. A bunch of singles. But good pitching holds it and we win our 2nd in a row. Good game.
June 22, 2026 at 9:03 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310689That was the exact sequence to Walker I was referring too except the last pitch came back over the plate a bit more than the pitcher wanted but Walker still swung and missed it because he was hesitant about the possibility of the changeup low and away.
June 22, 2026 at 8:57 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310687That’s the Arenado pop up we all remember.
June 22, 2026 at 8:56 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310685It’s not just low and away 1TD. It’s middle away. Up and away. And low and away. Either he hits a weak fly to right, swings and misses, or rolls over on a grounder to the left side. He still hits one hard every now and again if they catch a bit more of the plate but I’m not sure he can reach anything more than 2 inches outside.
June 22, 2026 at 8:53 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310684Nothing amazing on the defensive end tonight, but quite a few quality big league plays to help hold the Diamondbacks in check including that catch by Church on a scorcher to CF.
Soriano in. 4 outs still to get.
June 22, 2026 at 8:48 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310680I’ve noticed lately how Walker pretty much only gets thrown strikes on the outside portion of the plate. They are staying away from him and it often appears he can’t reach balls just a little outside. I hope he can adjust because it has kept him fairly cold lately.
June 22, 2026 at 8:39 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310677Herrera still has not thrown a runner out since 2024.
McKay has been around forever! I remember him when I was a kid.
June 22, 2026 at 8:36 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310674Stanek does not allow cheap homers. 444 feet to straight away CF on a fastball middle middle. And now a base hit through the infield with 2 outs and Romero coming in.
Wonder why I wanted to ride Pallante’s for 1 more inning?
June 22, 2026 at 8:24 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310668Pallante gets through 6 with 1 run allowed. He may be back out for the 7th given our bullpen situation and the fact it would be the bottom of their lineup. Seven innings with one run allowed would be a fantastic outing.
They said Stanek is warming so Pallante likely done. I don’t love that decision, but not mine to make!

June 22, 2026 at 8:05 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310661That hit by pitch from Pallante on a slight graze of a stuck out elbow may come back to haunt us here.
Nice defense by Pallante himself to snare one and get the runner at home. Two outs.
And a “Pallante” patented slow roller ends the inning. Need at least one more inning from Andre.
June 22, 2026 at 7:41 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310653That was the good version of a Pallante-type inning. 2 very weak grounders and one medium hit grounder. Keep em coming Andre.
June 22, 2026 at 6:00 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310629I mean the long-term affects. Pitching guys on back-to-back days typically means they need a couple days off to recover. That means every reliever we use tonight not named Bruihl won’t be available Tuesday or Wednesday. Some could be optioned out though. But then they have to stay in Memphis for 15 days unless there’s an injury.

June 22, 2026 at 5:36 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310624Lots of transactions today but no one getting brought up for the bullpen so if Pallante only lasts a few innings, it could be disastrous. Rajcic generally has a rubber arm so he may be able to go 2 or 3 innings despite pitching over an inning yesterday. We used 7 of 8 yesterday though.
3 weeks ago he was diagnosed with a tight hamstring. The thought at the time was he’d only be out around the minimum time (around 7-10 days). I haven’t seen anything since. He’s well beyond the timetable.
June 21, 2026 at 8:16 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #76 thread – Monday, June 22 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks #310590I would not be surprised if a fresh arm is called up tomorrow to replace Rajcic.
Maybe Gastellum for Pozo on the 40-man. Winquest is also a possibility but I don’t think he’s earned it before Gastellum. Ideally, it would be a guy who could pitch long relief, but I don’t think Dobbins is eligible yet. Same with Fernandez I think. Matthews and Mautz both just pitched. Zimmerman is the other possibility if they want a long guy but he can’t be optioned once called up and I think they’d rather keep him as an emergency starter option. Therefore, I think we see Gastellum debut tomorrow.
June 21, 2026 at 4:20 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #75 thread – Sunday, June 21 at Kansas City Royals #310570We held the Royals to only 30 runs across 3 games.
I think that is all a great assessment Bling. I concur.
June 19, 2026 at 8:45 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #74 thread – Friday, June 19 at Kansas City Royals #310446In other news, Chen Wei Lin threw 6 no-hit innings tonight for Springfield. He just got lifted for the 7th.
