Blue Jays trade idea with Kirk out 6+ weeks and their dire need of a LHRP…..

    BJ’s get Pages and Jojo
Cards get to call up Crooks to hit 6-8 hole.
Cards get J. King (non top 100 but their #4) from Blue Jays and another lotto ticket piece.

Crooks needs to be in the lineup and Jojo needs moved while he has a 0.00 ERA.

    Tonight’s 2nd trade idea….

Fermin for a lotto ticket to any team that needs a utility guy. Call up .400+OBP Torres who Oli could at least let bat!

    Tonight’s 3rd….

I’ve read two articles regarding the Orioles willing to trade Coby Mayo and Keaton Hjersted. Mayo might still be worth a very pretty penny and is a 1B or 3B only guy. Cards need LF help the next several years.

What would it take for Hjersted (on DL currently) Pallante and Church?

I have wanted Kjerstad for years. I saw him play in college many times and he was a terrific player. Just needs everyday AB’s and a team with a little patience.

I’d love him too, if the Cards can give Walker all that time, it’s a great match.

VS and Church are very redundant. I’m in huge favor of Baez in CF in 2027…

Would Jojo and Pallante get K Hjersted?

I wouldn’t do that trade. Maybe Pallante for him? I’d want more Romero too.

I doubt if the O’s would do Pallante for Kjerstad straight up. We would have to kick in something else.

Jojo was in that idea as well, I doubt the Rockies would take Pallante….

I know. I was referring to C27’s idea of Pallante only.

Gotcha GScott. After the trade deadline, I’d highly doubt Jojo, O’Brien, May, Noot (if healthy), Pages and both of Church and VS are still on the team.

Cards need a LF to be watchable in 26 and 2027 and it’s beyond sad out there now. Just give us a glimmer of hope Chaim….

I wouldn’t expect the Orioles to trade for Pallante, as I think they have some top pitching prospects at AAA.

CFICT, I am unsure of how much trade deadline activity the Cards will have. I imagine Romero and Nootbaar may go, but I think O’Brien is too valuable, cheap and controllable to trade. I could see Pages sent down, but he isn’t a very valuable trade piece.

Before this season I thought Svanson might close some games, but with his struggles, O’Brien is really the only choice for closer after a Romero trade.

I think O’Brien’s value is exactly why the trade him for a barge and then some. Relievers are so volatile that they need to cash in while they can, see Helsley, Ryan.

Pages is just redundant when Crooks is fully ready. Herrera needs a position other than C once a week. if you can catch a 100 mph fastball you can catch one in the OF….

Hence sure got his timeline pushed back

I just don’t know who’d replace O’Brien. It wouldn’t likely be in return for him.

I am hoping the Cards still deal Romero. He should fetch a good return. Nootbaar could go too, but it will depend on his return from injury. I also wonder if we keep them because arevwinning more games than expected so far.

C27, I’m still hoping for a LFer with ONLY one of Church or VSII in the organization/on the roster.

And why the heck is Torres not on the 26 over some of the guys now? He needs his chance, Fermin can be traded to the Idaho baseball league for some French fries sent to everyone reading this!

I agree that Torres or Prieto could be called up. Saggesse hasn’t hit much. Perhaps Torres’ versatility on defense and his high OBP will translate to the MLB.

How much longer does Pozo remain on the active roster? Herrera is sound physically and behind the plate. Pages is doing fine in his role. Crooks is on the 40 man and able to step up if a need arises. It seems like a complete waste of a roster spot. The drawback is if a legit prospect is called up, he has to be played, which takes time away from somebody else and creates dreaded churn. Saggese also sits doing nothing and does not represent a useful bat off the bench. But again, do we want to replace him and invite more churn? Should we risk upsetting delicate chemistry when we are winning? Is it worth the risk trying to make the roster better? If winning is not paramount this season, should we go ahead and bring guys up to see what they’ve got at this level? But what would a part time role rotating into and out of the lineup tell us?

I think you could swap Torres for Pozo and play Torres some over Victor Scott. It just depends on how much the organization believes it Scott. Torres could be emergency catcher for a partial game if needed to preserve the DH. However, if the organization wants to continue to allow Scott to work through his challenges then having Torres sit at the end of the bench isn’t any more helpful than having Pozo sit there.

I guess you could add Prieto for Saggese so Saggese could play every day at Memphis and Prieto gives us a more legitimate bat off the bench to pinch hit. I’m not sure that’s much of an upgrade but it would potentially allow Saggese to get into a rhythm. That move makes some sense because our bench is void of pinch hitters right now. Blaze Jordan would actually be the best choice for this assuming we were in win-now mode, but we are not.

The more I see of Scott, the more I am not impressed with his arm. I think teams are aware and are aggressively taking bases off his arm. I don’t think his arm will improve much, which affects the ‘believe in him’ aspect. Arm is part and parcel of CF defense, and defense is what justifies Scott’s presence. We love watching him chase one down, but we can’t obsess on one aspect and get googly eyes like when a hitter drills a center cut meatball. I am assuming Scott exits when Noot returns, or shortly thereafter.

My gut tells me that neither Torres nor Jordan would do well breaking in at less than a full time role for a fairly good stretch. Its hard to tell if we are looking at the new Luken Baker and Nick Dunn or something else.

If Torres can get on base at .350 or higher, he is worth being on the roster. I don’t know how good he is in CF, but Church could play CF and Torres LF until Noot is back.

We got the answer on Saggese today. He is shipped out and Prieto is called up.

Our entire bench has been very weak this year. That day that Ollie did the getaway lineup we looked like a AA team. I would be in favor of bringing Crooks up to do a timeshare and yes Torres deserves a shot over Scott. Slide Church over to CF. Of course they may be waiting until Noot returns to make changes in the OF. I say why wait? It may be three or four more weeks before Noot is ready for a big league game. He hasn’t started his rehab assignment yet.

I wouldn’t mind allowing Jordan to platoon at 3B with Gorman assuming that Blaze can really handle 3B duties. Urias has not really done anything. I would hope we aren’t in “play the contract” mode with him since he only cost $2M.

All I know is that something will need to be done about CF at some point whether that means experimenting with Church or Torres or whoever now, or just toughing it out with VSII for the rest of the season and then finding a CFer during the next offseason.

If the organization already knows that Church can’t play CF, then there’s no sense in screwing him up by experimenting with him in CF when he is still settling into LF. VSII needs more time to develop in the minors.

In theory our offense is low power and our pitching not great so Urias’s defense makes sense. No idea what Jordan looks like defensively. We need to avoid stuffing all the bats in with disregard for other aspects of the game. On the other hand, we need to see what guys can do.

Do we know that Church can’t play CF?
