I didn’t have my glasses on when I glanced at the pitching matchup and it looked like Ray Sadeki was taking a turn for the Dodgers…I instantly knew that something or other was amiss because Ray was a lefty.

That friendly little baseball gypsy appeared early in the kitchen tonight as I was preparing a late night snack consisting of waffles smothered in Log Cabin syrup and butter along with an ice cold glass of cows’ milk. He always says,”Here I’m is” when he suddenly appears with his trusty crystal ball…That little baseball gypsy told me that the Redbirds hang their 6th consecutive W up on the board vs. the mighty Dodgers on Saturday. He’s beginning to come off as awfully self-assured, but I can’t help but to believe him. You heard it here first…

Wow, 6 straight! That will be something.

I am enjoying my midnight snack as I type this – a bowl of Raisin Bran and like 1TD, with cow’s milk. Usually I go with unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but opted for the moo juice this time.

definitely can get some runs on Sasaki. hopefully McGreevy can go 6 IP and give up less than 3 runs with 0 to 1 walk allowed.

We are lucky to not face Ohtani this series. He wanted to go out and win a Cy Young and he has been dominant to start the year. He doesn’t qualify for the ERA lead by a couple of innings with the Dodgers rotation usage. But he would be first with a 0.60 ERA. As long as he comes close to the innings requirement he has a shot for sure. He is going to regress some, but even by FIP he is the 3rd best pitcher with a 1.97 FIP

Just because we floured and pounded the best team money can buy yesterday doesn’t mean we will walk on their cake today. But we might, we could, we should. This game is win-able.

The Cards dodged a number of other aces during April as well. The schedule gods have been kind – so far.

Last season felt like we were often getting the toughest match-ups. This season has felt the opposite. There’s a lot of luck in the game of baseball and getting the right team and pitching at the right time is up there with the rest of it. Make hay while it lasts.

Speaking of luck with pitching matchups, we were scheduled to get Woodruff and Misiorowski for the Brewers. It looks like we may miss both now due to recent injuries. Woodruff is almost surely out.

I just watched the replay of last night’s flour and pounding of the mighty Dodgers. Doncha just love it when we score three in the first? I’m moving that rump steak up to the front of my recipe box for the rest of the season.

For tonight (another dratted night game) din-din will be turkey breasts and mushrooms in a cream sauce served over brown rice. We’ll pretend mushrooms are vegetables. Desert will be a French torte covered with strawberries.

    Rah Cardinals!

It’s been a long while since baseball has affected my scheduling of activities. I’ve taken a daily bicycle ride for decades, as well as worked and watched Cardinal baseball in season. I get it all scheduled in but Sunday can be an issue. No time before church for the bike ride. After Church is generally Cardinal game on. So usually I take a shorter ride than watch the second half of the game. But if we beat the Dodgers tonight, I will watch the whole game and most likely miss my bike ride. It’s a good problem if it happens.

I know it is only early May but this team has been miraculous so far. I don’t know of anyone who predicted this. Who says you can’t rebuild and win at the same time?

And who predicted the NLC to be the toughest division in baseball? Reminiscient of 2015.

It is interesting to think about what happens if the Cardinals persist and remain in it. Inevitably, the talk will be we need this and that to have a chance. Would they break character and trade youth for win now? Would they trade youth for youth, trying to leverage excess in one area to fill need in another? Would they ride it out with the guys who got us there? What if there is a key injury, then what? I dread having to wade through all the basket of spare parts for somebody good trade proposals that would crop up.

I have been wondering the same thing bling. Granted it is a LONG time until late July but hypothetically if the Cardinals are in the same position then as they are now what would they do?

I think they would have to be tmepted into bringing in at least a very modest external player or two. Does that mean they would abandon the rebuild? No.

Does that mean they would go into Dave Dombrowski mode and gut the farm to bring in high priced vets? Of course not.

But there might be a low hanging fruit reliever or position player that wouldn’t cost much. A long way to go before we worry about that though.

I doubt this will win me din-din of the day but here goes.

I had a Hungry Man’s Fried Chicken TV dinner, a couple ears of corn, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a bowl of Prairie Farm’s French Vanilla ice cream.

Going to hit my pool table now and then tune in to the Reds and Pirates game from Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Then later tonight the Doyers and Cards from Sportsmans Park. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

Saggese is clearly odd man out at the moment. Defensive versatility gives him value on the bench, but Urias obviously beat him out as to getting rotated in regularly. Church has shut down the LF rotation. With the team winning, there is no reason to make any moves on the position player side until Noot returns, at which point it might make most sense to move Pozo.

It will be a kick for me to watch a game instead of on the radio, like when I was a kid and could only watch on channel 11 (KPLR I think) or channel 5, KSD in one weekend day game per week

Danke Schoen……for whatever reason, that hit song from yesteryear has been ringing in my ears since indulging in a plate of the fiddlers at lunch today. Wouldn’t that be a beautiful sight if at tonight’s ballgame in between the 3rd and 4th innings, the crowd broke out in a beautiful chorus of “Danke Schoen”.

I have been screaming “Sweep” since after Game 1 in Pittsburgh. But I awoke this morning with a sad feeling. I hate to rain on this wonderful parade that we’ve been experiencing this week, but our winning streak will screech to an abrupt halt this evening. It is with tremendous sadness that I’m calling it 7-4 Dodgers on this otherwise fine Saturday afternoon.

And what’s for din-din tonight one may inquire? In about an hour I’ll be heading on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse, where lasagna, cobb salad and fresh garlic bread will be on the din-din docket. Thanks to advice from The Gray Ghost, I’ll be chugging down water and milk instead of sugary soft drinks. Then on the way home I’ll be swinging on by the drive-thru lane at Popeye’s to snag myself 3 apple cinnamon pies.

Go Cards!……please shock me and prove me wrong.

I’ll still champion Blaze Jordan getting the call up with Pozo sent to AAA. Pozo rarely plays and isn’t a good bench bat. Urias also isn’t a great hitter and Gorman has surprisingly done well at 3B. I would have Jordan DH’ing a few games a week and Gorman at 3B. Improves the lineup.

Jordan has 111 games of experience at AAA and may as well test him at the big league level to see if he can at least be a good bench bat at the minimum.

I would also like Scott sent down with Torres called up until Nootbaar is back to at least see if he can be a super util type guy. Church to CF with Torres / Fermin platooning in LF. Torres helps fill the void of an emergency C if they are concerned with sending Pozo down.

Both moves I think improve the current roster, but more importantly they still help align to the goal of developing for the future by getting some big league experience for 2 of our role player caliber prospects.

Replace Urias in the 8 hole with Jordan and Scott with Torres in the 9 and the lineup sure looks better.

Nice Carter! Too bad we didn’t have the music to accompany your pic. I would challenge anyone who heard Danke Schoen to try to not sing that song to themselves for at least 2 hours after hearing it……it’s pretty impossible not to.

Taking a gander at the early Saturday evening out-of-town scoreboard:

The Cubs down the DBacks today. 2-0 Cubs your final at Wrigley.

The Pirates are pounding the Reds at Forbes Field. Currently it’s 15-4 and the Reds just walked seven (7) straight Pirates. That ties a ML record.

The Brewers lead the Nationals 4-1 in the 8th at RFK Stadium in our nation’s capitol.

Carter: What’s with the Wally Moon pix?

Brings back some bad memories of my youth. My dad and I were big fans of Enos Slaughter and when the Cards traded him to the Yankees and replaced him with Wally Moon I was devastated and my dad swore he would never drink another bottle of Budweiser beer as long as he lived. To the best of my knowledge he never did. I would have done the same except I was still playing Pony League ball and my beverage of choice was Nehi grape.

Ironically, Moon turned out to be a pretty good player and I grew to like him – even his single dark eyebrow.
