Miller coming in. He probably has no chance, but maybe Walker can have a Pujols/Lidge moment here where he breaks Miller . . .
Instead it’s a harmless ground out to short. I’m just happy Jordan didn’t strike out. That was a win in my book.
Bloop pop-up hit to no man’s land in RF by Tatis scores 2. I thought Walker might get there at first, but he may not have gotten a good jump. Now down 2.
The changeup and high fastball are both problems for Gorman and mostly always have been. He generally swings over the changeup and under or behind the high fastball.
Strikeout and then line drive that Walker makes a good but slightly awkward play on and then another line out to Walker give the Cardinals pitchers a combined 1 hitter.
Graceffo puts up another zero preserving the 1-hitter through 8.

Career high in strikeouts for McGreevey thus far. His changeup has been great all night. It’s getting tons of swing and miss especially on strike 3.
JJ turns a single into a little league grand slam as Tatis just completely misses the ball hit to him.
Some ugly pitching performances for our minor league starters tonight. 7 runs in 1 2/3 for Hansen. 4 runs in 2 innings for Ethan Young. 7 runs in 2 innings for Nate Dohm. 4 runs through 4 innings thus far for Brandt Thompson.
Just for fun, because I know they’ve been terrible after the first round in every draft, I decided to look up the Cubs’ 2nd round picks from 2010 on. The best player they have had from a 2nd round pick since then was Daniel Vogelbach, but he was traded to Seattle early on in his minor league career and he’s only been worth 1.4 BWAR anyway. The next best was Rob Zastryzny, who had a whopping total of .6 BWAR.

Rajcic I could see. He has plenty of AAA experience and his conversion to the pen and switch from slider to sweeper has done wonders for him. He could certainly replace Shuster on the mlb and 40-man roster. However, I’m not confident his MLB results would be better than pedestrian and thus far Shuster has been fine. Therefore, I’m not sure we’re gaining much.
No way on Gastellum. He has a month of AAA experience and has had quite a few rocky innings there. Give him more time.
This team keeps surprising me. I made it a whole inning and a half before deciding to doze off. I didn’t think the first inning went too well for Liberatore and with the travel and late night start added to that, I mentally checked the loss bucket for that one. I was mesmerized this morning when I saw a win at 2-1. Our pitching must have been great for the remainder. Plus a couple double plays and a caught stealing helped us hold a good offense in check. Very nice win.
Also interesting that the Reds have gone from first to last in the division after dropping 7 straight.
Not a good start at all. Pallante is leaving everything up so instead of low in the zone it’s landing right down the middle.

I thought the pitch Graceffo threw that got hit for a homer was a really good curveball. Sometimes you just get beat.

Stanek comes in and mostly throws strikes for a very efficient top 8. Great work. I did prefer him to Svanson against these Brewers. I’m not sure what Graceffo has to do though to earn a late inning spot.
Apparently it will be Stanek for the 8th. It is the bottom of the Brewers’ order, but they walk just as easily.
