I never make predictions. Especially about the future…However, the same friendly little baseball gypsy that told me the Redbirds would complete a 4 game sweep of the Pirates showed up right next to the little garden gnome in one of the flower beds as I was doing yardwork at the 1TD homestead and told me that the Cardinals hang their 5th consecutive W up on the board vs. the mighty Dodgers. I’m beginning to think that little baseball gypsy has one of them real good crystal balls…You heard it here first.

Maybe…Not that it means anything, but the Cardinals are 4-2 in his 6 turns this season. His solitary decision is a lousy L in his 4th turn vs. CLE. He hasn’t worked past 6 IP this season and he surrendered the baseball after being touched up for 3 taters in only 3.1 IP’ed in his most recent turn vs. the Mariners. At any rate, he’s never impressed me as the sort of pitcher that can record an out when he really needs one in order to work out of trouble.

I hope 1TD’s genie is correct – I have this nagging sensation of symmetry, where we were swept at home, then swept the opponent on the road, and thus are set up to get swept at home again.

Okay, I am working the Rockies-Braves game tonight so no game posting from yours truly, and instead scoreboard watching from Coors Field. So let’s start this series by putting together a Cardinal-Dodger team. People sometimes get confused when I do this and think it is an all-time team of Cardinal and the opponent’s players. Instead it is team of players that at some point wore the uniform of each club – and not necessarily the best players we could have picked, but rather just names that happen to pop into my head in thinking about a team of guys that played for us and the Dodgers at some point in their career. Let’s go this way:

    c – Mickey Owen
1B – Ed Konetchy (a very good early day player mostly forgotten today)
    2b – Ted Sizemore
    ss – Rabbit Maranville
    3b – Ken Boyer
    lf – Pedro Guerrero
    cf – Willie Davis
rf – Reggie Smith (man that was a bad deal when we traded Reg for Joe Ferguson)
    dh – Dick Allen
    p – Claude Osteen
    p – Jeff Pfeffer
    p – Burleigh Grimes
p – John Tudor (who could be on a Cardinal-Pirate team as well; I meant to put one together during that series and forgot!)
    rp – Todd Worrell

Tonight’s did-din is a floured and well pounded rump steak (which is incidentally the same technique I hope we apply to the Dodgers this evening), accompanied by scalloped potatoes and a green salad. Dessert will once again be Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream sprinkled with fresh strawberries.

The late start (1:15 a.m. French time) almost certainly means I’ll be watching it on replay tomorrow. But I’ll dream of pounding those Dodgers.

    Rah Cardinals!

The sprinkling them with flour part should be interesting.

Din-din here for me is another CCFF. That’s Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday! Out at the Amish restaurant north of town that sits on the lake. Along with some mashed potatoes/gravy, dressing, noodles, sweet iced tea, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream and a piece of cherry pie.

However, there won’t be any cigar out on the patio afterwards. The weather has turned cool here in SW Indiana. High temps today only around 60. And it’s breezy as I type this. Have to wait till next week.

And I was going to watch the first 3-4 innings of the Reds and Pirates from Three Rivers Stadium tonight but it’s that stupid AppleTV game so I won’t be able to see it.

With me working a night game, there will be no din-din for Bikey Mikey. The Lovely Lady Bike had planned fish ‘n chips. I will snack on something late afternoon, some fruit and maybe a granola bar, and have a bowl of Raisin Bran late night when I get home.

Very good Cardinals-Dodgers list Mike. Two others who could be considered are Albert Pujols and Tommy Edman.

Longshots would be Cesar Cedeno, Joe Ferguson, David Freese and Jerry Reuss.

Ooo, yeah gscottar, good additions. Reuss for sure. I thought of Pujols and Edman, as well as Jack Flaherty but like to give the long ago players some love as they slip further into the past.

Bikey Mikey? That list of your’s seems naked due to one glaring omission……give you a hint……he first coined the now widely used baseball term “chin music”. Yep, Jim “Mud Cat” Grant.

Is there anyone else out there thinking the same thing I am about this series vs LA? Sweep. You have to be thinking that yes, these Dodgers are sweepable and yes, our Cardinals are ripe to accomplish just that. Let’s call this one 6-4 Birds with Victor swipping not one…..not two….but three bases.

Usually a catfish fiddler din-din will take home Game Thread Din-Din of The Day honors on a Friday. But Cardinal in France’s “floured and well pounded rump roast” conjures up culinary visions that almost seem out of this world. Thus, if another entry doesn’t totally knock our socks off, then Cardinal in France will be taking home tonight’s coveted award…….with a special wink and a tip of the cap in Rat’s and whomever else posts a din-din entry with catfish fiddlers as a headliner, direction. Bon Appetite!…..or is it Bone Appetite?

I sure as heck didn’t see a sweep coming against the Pirates. I am expecting the worst against Palm Tree Thanos (LAD). They are just such a stacked team; lets not kid ourselves. We didn’t have the horses to beat SEA. Maybe the Pirates aren’t as good as some people thought (me included). The bullpen is butt cheeks, Gorman, Scott II and Walker (I still doubt him) are not people to be counted on in the lineup. Liberatore is also putrid and is not going to be that ace that we need. The only thing going for us is that the LAD starting pitcher is mid.

We took 4-6 from LA last season IIRC. It isn’t out of the realm to take 2-3. Also we don’t get Ohtani on the mound but the kid Sunday has been good and May faces his old team. Which could be a step backward. We shall see what the boys give us.

I believe Betts is still on the IL so that is one Dodger all star we won’t have to deal with. They have plenty of others though. Tommy Edman is also on the IL.

It is pizza night for me tonight. I always have a supply of Against The Grain Cheese Pizzas. I buy them at a local organic store and I think they are made in Vermont. Hands down the best frozen pizzas I have ever had. I have had one nearly every Friday night for the last 10 years. Along with a glass of Diet Mountain Dew and a Little Debbie chocolate brownie it will be good eats as we face Big Blue from LA.

The pirates are always good at giving us a boost. Used to be the reds were too but i think they may be turning it around. I think just coming off the momentum of the pirate sweep, we could take 2 out of 3 easy. All bets off if we fall tonight however.

Good Gawd Pugsly! It’s too early in the day to be guzzling 12 year old scotch. We swept tha Stro’s and I tell you: I don’t remember the last time we even won a 3 game series with those cheating bastages!

Sweeping those improved Pirates was also pretty unexpected, but sweep the DODGERS???
