Nice starts tonight by Ty Van Dyke, Yhoiker Fajardo, and (at least into the 5th) Chen-Win Lin. A combined 15 IP with 9 hits allowed, 4 walks, 3 earned runs and 20 Ks.

Crooks has done a great job since I commented I didn’t think he was ready for the bigs due to his habit of chasing pitches and swinging and missing. Even with the poor start, he has dropped his O-Zone Swing % down to what would be around big league average of 28.2%. His swinging strike rate is slightly high still at 14.4 % but it has been decreasing.
I would still give him a little more time until maybe around June before calling him up. But he is certainly making his case for a spot. Pages has moments where he is good, but overall he is a fairly below average hitter and probably average defensively. Pages fits really well as a backup C and maybe they would let Crooks have a run of being the starter. They could platoon as well but then getting starts at C for Herrera is hard.
Fajardo has also been flat out impressive. 19 years old in A+ and well advanced beyond his years. He has a 33.3 K% and 2.9 BB% showing not only is he able to blow his pitches past guys, but he has much advanced command for a 19 year old.
They need to push him to AA by the end of the month. With pitchers it is hard to evaluate then at the lower levels due to the competition level and AA hitters can test him more and make him work on rounding out his arsenal.
Van Dyke is a fun late rounder to follow. Throwing strikes and not getting his head taken off. Its probably wise to have him at a level he can handle as he adapts to a starter role and works on secondaries.
FCL Cards up 7-1 with 3 homers by the youngsters. Peyton Graham, who is returning from Tommy John surgery last year, has been excellent in 2 starts so far. He might get moved up to Palm Beach by the end of the year. His move might coincide with Van Dyke getting bumped up to Peoria.
Even though Van Dyke was a reliever in an off broadway program, he is a college guy and needs to move out of Palm Beach some time this year to clear space for guys coming up and new draftees.
Watching some of the videos of raniel. Im very impressed not only with the swing and exit velocity but he seems to have decent wheels. I think its def time to move him up soon. I dont know how that happens far as who has to be moved up elsewhere, who has to be let go. I dont know it all works exactly. We hear about players being released from the big club or triple A but seldom hear what goes on with players in the lower areas. Some get thrown in with trades n such but im sure many are just basically told to go home. End of a dream for some.
Relatively few guys are released during the season because depth is always needed at every level and the timing is unpredictable. On the position player side, there could be some redundancy post-draft.
Some ugly pitching performances for our minor league starters tonight. 7 runs in 1 2/3 for Hansen. 4 runs in 2 innings for Ethan Young. 7 runs in 2 innings for Nate Dohm. 4 runs through 4 innings thus far for Brandt Thompson.
Well thats interesting to know about releasing players. Is there a certain number of players a team in the minors is allowed to carry?.

Who didn’t stand out is often of as much interest as who did. In this case, all four starters of the full season teams got their clock cleaned, including Pete Hansen at AAA.
Sebastian Alessandro Dos Santos. Just turned 18. Was inked for chump change(75K). The youngster can hit and he walks more than he whiffs. His .452 OBP screams out that he needs to be challenged. A fellow to keep an eye on……maybe two eyes.

Ugeto failed to run out a groundball that the SS booted, and nobody in Springfield booooooed him…not even a murmur from a large crowd. Nobody approached him in the dugour. He is either injured or such a knuclehead nobody even cares.
Doyle could have easily pitched a shutout, but he throws so many non-competitive pitches. I would guess ten or more.The #stlcards system was 2-2 on Sunday.
