The Cubs have really leaned on 39 year old Caleb Thielbar this month and now he leaves the game with an apparent leg injury after throwing a pitch. They're down Phil Maton, Daniel Palencia and Hunter Harvey just since opening day. Pen is a mash unit right now.

Looks like a long period out for Boyd. He may or may not return later this season due to a torn meniscus in his knee.
Despite injuries nothing seems to be slowing the Cubs down right now. In their last 23 games they have a record of 19-4. Not good.
The pounded the Reds again today.
8-3 the final at Wrigley.
That’s 15 wins in a row at home.
And 9 in a row overall.
However, they will soon come crushing down and back to earth.
If they don’t come crashing down I’m fine. We have our own team to worry about. Right now things are OK.
Just for fun, because I know they’ve been terrible after the first round in every draft, I decided to look up the Cubs’ 2nd round picks from 2010 on. The best player they have had from a 2nd round pick since then was Daniel Vogelbach, but he was traded to Seattle early on in his minor league career and he’s only been worth 1.4 BWAR anyway. The next best was Rob Zastryzny, who had a whopping total of .6 BWAR.

Nice seeing the cubbies getting throttled this evening in the Windy City. Milwaukee leads 8-2 in the bottom of the 5th. Yelich and Bauers have taken Imanaga deep, Bauers a 3 run shot. I figured Imanaga would make it another month before he started getting rocked like the second half of last season. But his pitching difficulties may be beginning a little earlier this year. He lasted 4 1/3 frames tonight giving up 8 earned runs. I predict he’ll get yanked from that rotation sometime this summer, even with all of their injuries to their starting pitchers.
As usual the Brew Crew are not going away. I think they are in the Cubs heads at this point and I love it.
Amazing that they’ve just passed only 1/3 of the way through the season and the cubbies have had two 10 game winning streaks and now one 10 game losing skid. Not 8, not 9 or 11, but exactly 10. With this in mind you just know they are finally going to get off the losing schneid and gain victory today. I’m so confident that I feel like plopping down 10K on them…….but how can a Cards fan bet on the cubbies to win? It’s easy money, but I don’t think I can muster up the inspiration to do it.
Cubbies are also having ninth inning problems. Such a shame!

Did some quick checking and Mordecai Brown had a couple of seasons with 9+ WAR, so that list must only be offensive WAR.
Still very impressive. Was PCA considered a “can’t miss” prospect in the Mets organization?
He’s a flash in the pan. By the middle of next year, hurlers will be pitching around Amaya to get to PCA.
PCA was a prep first-rounder ranked 4th or 5th in the Mets system when traded in 2021. He wasn’t on the National Top 100 until later. He had suffered a shoulder injury before the trade which is why he was available.
I like to make fun of him and call him “Crowbar” which I robbed from Rats but he’s pretty good and is a virtual lock for the NL MVP award. All of his numbers are flashy including three categories that I place a lot of stock in. He’s appeared in all 153 games with a GG calibre mitt in CF and leads all players in runs scored and TB’s which, in my view, outweigh anything that can be measured by the WAR thing.
