Carter, does the Rio Grande have any water in it there?

Pads threaten(bases loaded to the gills)in the 4th , but no dice. Still scoreless heading to the 5th. McGreevy at 69 pitches.

JJ turns a single into a little league grand slam as Tatis just completely misses the ball hit to him.

That must have been a heck of an error.

Top of 5. Canning still pitching with 56 pitches under his belt to open the inning.

Winn – Blisters a liner into center to get things rolling in the Redbird 5th.

Church – Grounds it….off the tip of Sheets glove at 1st where the 2nd baseman quickly grabs it and his throw will not get Church at 1st base….that will go as an infield hit and now the Cards are in business…..Winn stayed at 2nd.

Prieto- Strikes out swinging on a change up a few inches off the dirt.

Scott – Walks with the aid of a winning challenge. Bases crammed with Cards….gotta get them right here and right now with JJ strolling to the plate.

JJ – Lines a base hit to right…..and Tatis totally misplays the ball and that baby is heading all the way to the wall….in comes Winn, followed by Church….Scotty comes waltzing in…..and lookie here, JJ is rounding 3rd and coming on home standing up! 4-0 Birds. That’ll be an rbi for JJ and a 3 base error on Tatis Jr.

    Herrera lines a single.

Burly – Doubles with Herrera slapping on the brakes at 3rd.

Walker-Walks and Canning is getting yanked. Bases loaded Part 2 here in the Redbird 5th and oh what a 5th inning it is.

    Matsui now pitching for SD.

Gorman – Grounds a base hit to right and in prances Herrera with run #5.

Winn – well we’ve batted around now…..3rds anyone? Sac fly to left will score the sliding Burly……6-0.

Walker thrown out trying to swipe 3rd.

Haha!…I’m looking at gameday and I saw the 4 Redbird runs and thought Wetherholt had ripped a GS, but JJ comes all the way around to clear the bases and score on Tatis Jr’s Das Boot E-9! Haha…4-0, Redbirds!

Gotta love the little league grand slam. Bases loaded again. Time to pile on against the new pitcher.

And now they’re jammed up again with Gorman standing in and the Cardinals are looking for more! These kiddos are getting to be a lot of fun. Ain’t baseball great?

And now Gorman delivers a 1 out RBI base hit and the Cardinals increase the lead to 5-0. “Keep the line moving.”

And Winn with the SF to make it a smooth half dozen and it’s 6-0 before the SD 5th inning nightmare ends with the CS at 3B. Need a quick and efficient inning of work from McGreevy. Don’t give them Padres no air.

Not that it would have made a difference, but Tatis didn’t exactly give max effort running back to the wall after the error. Would be interesting to know if any of his coaches said anything to him about it in the dugout.

Winn has a cannon for an arm. Too bad Jimmy Wynn already had the nickname “Toy Cannon” as that would have been perfect for Masyn. Maybe we can just drop the “Toy” and come up with another word associated with “Cannon”……..put you thinking caps on, gang……or maybe we keep the “Toy” and drop the “Cannon”…..how does “Toy Howitzer” sound for young Masyn? Naw……that doesn’t quite do it…..we’ll think of one.

McGreevy delivers an outstanding 5th inning of work to keep the boot on the Padres’ neck.

Career high in strikeouts for McGreevey thus far. His changeup has been great all night. It’s getting tons of swing and miss especially on strike 3.

And McGreevy burns right through Merrill, Bogaerts and Machado for another outstanding inning of work in the home half of the 6th.

K #9 for McGreevy as we head to the 7th……this guy is a pitcher.

Well it certainly looks like my “Bet The Ranch” game is fortunately going to misfire tonight. My last incorrect “Bet The Ranch” prediction was wayyyy back on June 5th, 1997, when I predicted our Cards to belt Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania…….we lost 9-3. I bet my next wrong ‘Bet The Ranch” prediction won’t be until 2055.

2 more K’s in the 6th. Same pattern again and again and Padres keep swinging and missing it for strike 3. Between that and the play of Tatis Jr tonight, I’d be embarrassed to be a Padres fan.

Maybe Tatis will take some heat off the Red’s catcher.

With 1 out here in the Cardinal 7th, the Padre fielders look around and see what they’ve often been faced with in this game……Cardinals standing on each and every base…..5 different times thus far to be exact. These Padre fielders….especially Tatis Jr., are going to have horrible nightmares tonight of these big giant red Cardinals going around and around their bases until they’re so dizzy they can’t see straight…..back to the action

    Gorman – Strikes out swinging.

Winn – Grounds out to 2nd.

I just got home and see the Birds have a 6-0 lead and are threatening for more. I predicted Ivan to go 2-4 and I see he is already 4-4. Maybe he will have a 5 hit game.

Carter, you must live near New Mexico St. University. The Aggies. I have always wanted to visit that campus. I had a friend who went to school there.

Many may have noticed that on the 5th inning RBI base hit to RF from Gorman, Tatis Jr. fielded that baseball in precisely the same manner as he did on the 3 unearned run E-9 base hit ground ball to RF from Wetherholt. He played it with his glove hand way off to the left side of his body and simply nonchalantly pushed his mitt towards the turf. When an OF’er plays it like that and the baseball skips under the mitt, it’s a sure fire disaster. All the way to wall, folks…Some of these kids never learn.

I also predicted that McGreevy would give us 6 quality innings. We can check that box off.

Graceffo throws 5 pitches to get 3 pop ups of different distances. Easy and efficient.
