Graceffo puts up another zero preserving the 1-hitter through 8.
I’m guessing Shuster gets the 9th although it could be a well-rested Svanson, Stanek, or Bruihl.
May 8, 2026 at 11:10 pm #306956Graceffo sets them down in order in the 8th. The only drama remaining in this one is if Herrera is going to go 5-5….we’ll find out real soon as he’ll be leading off the 9th.
May 8, 2026 at 11:13 pm #306957I’m predicting Bruihl, Jnevel.
May 8, 2026 at 11:14 pm #306958Ivan bounces out weakly to 2nd……4-5 every night will get you to Cooperstown though.
May 8, 2026 at 11:16 pm #306959I think I’m changing to Svanson with a switch hitter and 2 righties coming up.
May 8, 2026 at 11:18 pm #306960Cards now, barring a hideously disastrous 9th, with a 13-5 road record. Not too shabby.
May 8, 2026 at 11:20 pm #306961We’re both wrong, Jnevel. It’s Stanek getting the 9th inning call. I didn’t know Ryne Stanek was named after Ryne Sandberg. His father is obviously a cubbies fan.
May 8, 2026 at 11:20 pm #306962Indeed. No walks please.
May 8, 2026 at 11:25 pm #306963Strikeout and then line drive that Walker makes a good but slightly awkward play on and then another line out to Walker give the Cardinals pitchers a combined 1 hitter.
May 8, 2026 at 11:30 pm #306964Yeah, the Redirds have been genuine road warriors thus far, Pugs. Meanwhile, those Cubbies placed their 10th consecutive W up on the board and now boast the best W/L record in the Big Leagues. They won in Arlington tonight, but are 18-5 at Wrigley. Some team has to douse them with ice water at some point or else they’ll create some substantial separation in the NLC.
May 8, 2026 at 11:34 pm #306965Ivan’s now at .263 after a real nice 4 for 5 night with the bat.
May 8, 2026 at 11:37 pm #306966I just now noticed that the scorer changed his original ruling and has credited Wetherholt with 2 RBI’s on the Tatis Jr. Das Boot in RF.
May 8, 2026 at 11:42 pm #306968Now at .605 and the little whiz-kid’s the odds on favorite for NL MOY…Yeah, I said it, and no, I’m not drunk.
May 8, 2026 at 11:42 pm #306969We have a split. Let’s win one more and get a nice start to thr west coast swing.
May 8, 2026 at 11:53 pm #306970I can’t help but to laugh at this silly new X-WL column in the standings. Expected by whom?…A baseball gypsy or the tooth fairy? I don’t get why anyone would even bother to come up with a concept that serves no logical purpose whatsoever. It’s as silly as attempting to carefully calculate how many eggs are supposed to be laid by the Easter Bunny…

You watch the standings in early May?
May 9, 2026 at 1:51 am #306972I sometimes watch them in early January. Hey, it beats a frozen backside while shoveling the driveway…
May 9, 2026 at 9:54 am #306981We’re 9-2 vs. teams with a .500 record or better, second best in MLB to Tampa Bay’s 5-1. Right now, an 18-21 record would be enough to make the postseason in the AL!
McGreevy had more movement on his pitches last night. Curious to see if that lasts. Would be awfully nice if it did!
May 9, 2026 at 10:20 am #306982I couldn’t watch since it was on Apple but it looks like McGreevy had himself an amazing start. He is #8 in MLB in ERA at the moment.

From the game feed it looks like he maybe regained that 2 mph on his pitches as well. It has sounded like McGreevy wasn’t satisfied with his stuff so far this year and maybe he is gaining that feel. If he pitches that well when he is feeling it he will have plenty of really good games.

A developing pitcher has to be able to stay on the mound to have a chance.
