9:10 p.m.
LHP Matthew Liberatore (1-1, 4.50) vs. TBA
ESPN // KMOXMay 6, 2026 at 12:13 pm #306752Interesting, looks like this is the first of 3 straight games on national telecasts and not Cards.tv. Thankfully I have AppleTV so can watch all 3 if I can stay awake that late.
May 6, 2026 at 4:49 pm #306765This Padre club is pretty darn good. Will be happy with a split of the four.
May 6, 2026 at 5:00 pm #306767I’ll try to stir up a little chatter by tossing out some baseball trivia for this elite squad of Redbird fans to step up to HP and take a swing at…
Manny Machado is the undisputed all time Padre team leader in HR’s with 199 taters and he’ll only add to that total to further distance himself from the player that places 2nd on that SD team list. Without looking it up, who is the player that places second with 163 HR’s to his credit while wearing a Padre uniform? Hint; It ain’t Alan Wiggins…
May 6, 2026 at 5:12 pm #306768Good question again 1TD. The first name that comes to mind is “Secretariat”, aka Dave Winfield. I will throw him out as a guess.
May 6, 2026 at 5:13 pm #306769Dave Winfield?
(Bike Mike, you beat me by a minute)
May 6, 2026 at 5:29 pm #306772While taking a glance at the all time Padre hitting leaders, it goes without saying that Tony Gwynn’s name is plastered all across the board as team leader in practically every hitting category. However, I noticed something that I would have never guessed. I would have bet a dollar that the great Tony Gwynn would have been far and away the Padre team leader in the all important hitting category of OBP. Gwynn was without question designed and built by his maker to lead in that category but, Nooooo…That Padre hitting category is led by none other than a member of the Cardinal ’82 WS champion team…Gene Tenace. Tenace leads Gwynn by a healthy 15 pct. pts. with an OBP of .403, and in his 2 seasons in a Redbird uniform, Tenace hung a .423 OBP up on the board. After seeing that, I clearly recall that Tenace was first rate in the all important area of plate discipline and drawing the BB, not only while I watched him play as a Cardinal, but throughout his entire Big League career.
May 6, 2026 at 5:36 pm #306773No, Bikemike, but that’s the first player that normally comes to mind. Believe it or not, Winfield is way down at #5 on the list and Tatis Jr. will in all likelihood pass him up this season to lower Dave to 6th place on the SD tater list. I happen to have known the correct answer for quite a while simply because of where he’s from. That ought to give everyone a better hint than Wiggins…Haha!
May 6, 2026 at 6:17 pm #306775Good trivia question. I have no idea. Greg Vaughn had at least one great year but don’t think he played there long enough. Same with Ken Caminiti and Gary Sheffield.
May 6, 2026 at 6:49 pm #306777I would have guessed he’d have been nearer to the top, but Camaniti places #10 on the list right behind Ryan Klesco, who I’d completely forgotten about. A good hint to the correct answer is to think about where the Padre HR runner up player is from…
May 6, 2026 at 6:56 pm #306778I’m a little surprised that no one guessed Adrian Gonzalez who places at #3 on the Padre team leader list for HR’s. Gonzalez was very dangerous when he stood in the box and had a couple of real nice post-season performances against our very own Redbirds. He was no joke.
May 6, 2026 at 7:25 pm #306779ESPN, AppleTV, and then Fox. At least Fox is a national broadcast. I’m sure plenty here have cable and ESPN but personally I’m unsure how ESPN has half the viewers it does as it simply isn’t a good sports channel/s like it was in its hey day of the 2000s.
May 6, 2026 at 8:06 pm #306781I used to really enjoy the Jon Miller/Joe Morgan broadcasting duo on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. I thought they really complimented one another nicley and did a first rate job during their lengthy tenure calling the action for those Sunday evening games. But like you pointed out, those days are long gone, Albert.
May 6, 2026 at 8:54 pm #306786Nate Colbert
May 6, 2026 at 9:47 pm #306787FYI here,
The Reds got four runs in the top of the 9th at Wrigley to take a 6-4 lead.PCA hits a two run homer in the last of the 9th to tie it 6-6.
Then the Reds lefty walked in the winning run in the last of the 10th with two outs.
7-6 Cubs in 10 innings. 14 home wins in a row.
As Beavis would say – “That Sux!”
May 6, 2026 at 9:47 pm #306788Nice going, Rats! Nate Colbert is indeed the correct answer. Nate was born and bred in StL. and was a Sumner HS alumni. I graduated from Southwest HS in ’75 and Sumner was our arch rival back then, so I’ve been well aware of Nate’s accomplishments for quite a while. In any case, you’ll have to make room in your trophy case for one of those Bill Buckner hand stitched oven mitts…
May 6, 2026 at 10:03 pm #306790Those Cubbies look like they have designs on creating some substantial separation in the NLC. Let’s hope that when they leave Wrigley after tomorrow’s game with the Reds that Skippy’s Rangers can throw a monkey wrench or two into their gearbox before they head to Atl. for 3 games against what appears to be a real solid Braves baseball team.
May 7, 2026 at 12:04 am #306791I actually was going to guess Colbert, but thought Winfield probably hit more as a Padre.
One of the greatest lines ever was when the Cardinals acquired lefty reliever Bob Shirley from the Padres around the late ‘70s I believe. He contrasted the two organizations saying, “Tradition in St Louis is Stan Musial and Bob Gibson around the clubhouse talking baseball and investments. Tradition in San Diego is Nate Colbert coming by trying to sell you a used car.” 😁
May 7, 2026 at 10:45 am #306798My guess was going to be Kevin McReynolds but I am little biased towards ex-Razorbacks. He ended up spending most of his time with the Mets though.
May 7, 2026 at 10:47 am #306799Looking at the standings this morning I notice that the entire American League has two teams with a winning record. That would be the Yankees and Rays. Thats it!
Meanwhile the NL Central alone has five teams with a winning record. Strange times indeed.
May 7, 2026 at 11:51 am #306802Yeah, the AL looks weak, or at least mediocre this year. But I expect the Mariners to get on a roll at some point and have a strong season.
Gotta hand it to those Rays. They just compete most every year.

May 7, 2026 at 1:50 pm #306813Already nearing the quarter mark of the ’26 season. Seems the older I get the faster the pages turn. It’ll be post-season time before you can say, “Rumpelstiltskin”…
May 7, 2026 at 3:11 pm #306814I feel like this 4 game series vs the Padres on the West Coast will be a test of our team’s testicular fortitude. I wish we weren’t coming off such a flat performance.
Then the series vs the As at the AAA ballpark in Sacramento should be fun.
May 7, 2026 at 4:24 pm #306816So do I, Bling. During the extended stretch of winning Cardinal baseball that lasted from ’00 until a few years ago, I had gotten over the angst that would come over me every time the Redbirds would head West for a tour up and down the coastline during the 70’s. That era seemed to always be saturated with disastrous results whenever a road trip consisted of LA, SF and SD. I can recall several seasons that looked hopeful and promising early on, only to be snuffed out by an extended stay in California. It could be really rough out there. I’d be elated if this years’ edition can somehow walk away from SD with a series split of these 4 games.
