jj, I would agree except I was hoping the team would make sure Church was completely ready. No need bringing him up just because he MIGHT hit better than Hampson. The season is already a lost cause.
1td, what’s funny is Walker is 2nd on the team in batting average in July. Pozo is 2nd on the team in OPS in July. Recency bias would say they would be more likely to provide some offense than a lot of the others.
Pugs, that should be 2-1-3-9-0-4-6-3-1-3 for an average of 3.2 a game. The team is 13th in the majors at 4.5 runs per game.
I understand that point. I just hope we have learned something. I don’t see anyone in our minors who is being held back by an expiring contract.
They may have to give up a little more than just the expiring contract. IMO, there is no reason to trade someone just because their contact is done at the end of the year. The objective is to make the team better. There is no need to move them unless we have someone in the minors who is ready to get the exposure to the majors.
I hope the Cardinals don’t trade expiring contracts for anything less than quality returns. We don’t need lottery tickets or marginal players. We need difference makers.
Bling, you can try to marginalize Herrera’s hitting ability but his OPS+ is 18th in the entire majors for anyone with at least 50 plate appearances. Or 200 plate appearances.
Bling, Herrera was ready with the bat. It was his defense that was questionable. Crooks is supposedly ready with the defense. It’s Crooks’ offense that is questionable. If you could take the best of those two and put them together, you might have a contender for the best catcher in the league.
Bling, the 6 year example to develope for Liberatore is assuming the development system remains the same as the last 6 years. I would rather believe that it will change and be less time. Bloom has been a part of the Rays, Red Sox and Cubs. All 3 have had good minor league systems during his time and after he left.
jj, I have noticed you mentioned Wetherholt not being a 3bman due to the fact he hasn’t played there yet. Do you think that is because the Cardinals already have Arenado, Gorman, Saggese and Donovan to play there? I haven’t seen anything in any reports that indicate to me he doesn’t have the arm, hands or mobility to play there. I am wondering if the Cardinals thought coming into this season that Gorman will be the next full time 3bman so they wanted Wetherholt to concentrate on only 1 new position to make his future home at second.
If Mikolas could keep us in the game for 2 out of every 3 starts for the rest of the year, I have no problem keeping him. I’m not real hopeful that will happen, though.
I think Pozo is the DC (designated catcher) for Mikolas for the rest of the year or until Mikolas is gone, whichever comes first.

Edman’s line since May 1: .211/.269/.316/.585.In 55 plate appearances in July Edman has hit .143/.222/.204/.426.
Bling, the replacement would probably be Matz, Leahy or Curtis Taylor. I think a bucket of balls might throw as well as Mikolas has this year. Or Aaron Wilkerson might be given a look.
Bob, I would love to have Donovan, Winn and Herrera signed for 2 years into free agency. Well, I could wait another year on Herrera but the other 2 would be good.
Noot won’t be traded because of his rib injury. He’s suffered long enough with it and isn’t even rehabbing, yet. Teams won’t pay for that uncertainty. He would be a throw in at this point.
25, Kirby, Miller, Woo are the exact level of pitcher that I was considering when stating that I would trade Donovan for a GOOD pitcher. Someone with a high ceiling and several years of team control. I would make that trade. Wetherholt looks like he could be ready next year. Gorman, Saggese and Fermin can hold down 2nd until Wetherholt is ready.
