This is a clear signal that the owners are willing to have a very bad team for a year.
Fitts has some promise to keep the Cardinals in games. With the exclusion of his June 2 start, Fitts pitched to a sub 4.00 ERA in his starts in the majors last year. He will be 26 in December and projects to be a back of the rotation starter.
Clarke looks like he puts the mascot on notice when he steps on the mound. If he can harness some control, he could be very good. However, right now, he reminds me of Hence.

28. GurevitchNovember 18, 2025 at 9:51 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2024-2026 #29600614Ny, for me, I look at it more along the lines:
1. He is almost 29 (in January).
2. He is a free agent after 2027.
3. He has a very high trade value.
4. He should only be traded for a great return.
5. The Cardinals have some players ready to back fill his position.
6. He may be gone before the Cardinals are competitive again so they should use his value, now, to acquire talent.I am happy to have him on the team but he is not Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani etc.
To me, there is less risk in keeping Gray. I don’t see the Cardinals signing 2 starting pitchers for a total of $20 mil that could provide the results that Gray and Pallante/Mathews/Leahy will. If the acquiring team is paying Gray $20 mil, I don’t see any better than a lottery ticket return. That doesn’t help the future. By the trade deadline, the Cardinals could possibly trade Gray. At that time, they probably pay $10 mil of what remains and get a better return.
jj, that is exactly why it makes no sense to trade him. Financially, the team pays a lot of money to move him. Baseball sense, the team gets nothing to help it this year and has a starting pitching staff that could be the worst in the major leagues.
Still seeing all the reporting and speculation about Sonny Gray being traded. I just can’t wrap my head around how that helps the Cardinals in the long run. It looks like it costs the owners a lot of money to be able to get a quality prospect. Then, they suffer at the gate with a non-competitive team. Without Gray, the rotation is beyond a joke.
I would think the Cardinals would run the risk of having to rush pitchers to the majors just to field a staff if injuries hit.

26. Jack GurevitchI have ignored Bryan Torres due to his age. However, looking at his batting stats, I wonder why he hasn’t received some attention. He looks like a contact hitter who hit 9 HRs this year. In his AA career he has hit .320. In his AAA career, he has hit .328. His K% has been less than 16%.
Gags, I don’t think there’s a problem changing your order between rounds. Sometimes, posters put information out that can change an opinion on prospects. Also, a poster may do more research that changes their opinion. I think the big thing is that a poster explains why they changed their order. Otherwise, it looks like they are just throwing darts at a dartboard to make their selections.
It is part of the reason I usually don’t participate after about the first 10-20 picks. I don’t feel I have a strong enough knowledge of the entire system to pick that deep in the process.
November 14, 2025 at 8:42 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2024-2026 #295840It is time for the Cardinals to once again adopt the policy of trading a player a year too early rather than a year too late like they have been over the last 5-10 years.
It is also time to build a strong starting pitching rotation.

Thanks, Pugs. We’ll see how much I can offer.

22. Nate Dohm14Ny, at this point, I am not as familiar with prospects so I will sit out the voting. I may occasionally point out a forgotten prospect but I leave it to you guys who spend more time with the prospects.
Where does everyone see Blaze Jordan? He turns 23 in December and spent 2/3 of the year in AAA. Good contact and more power possibility.

IMO, Roby and Hence both have the tools/ability to be elite starting pitchers. Health has hurt both of them as far as reaching that ceiling. Hence has been downgraded even more in my rankings due to his total inability to go deep into games when starting.
#8 Roby

I think he would be the third best prospect, if he could stay healthy.
The Cardinals don’t make the rankings on the MLB site. The Cardinals don’t make any public rankings.

If it would throw off the voting schedule, just allow the voting period of the 6th and 7th to vote for just the 7th. Then call the tie for the 5th. The alternative is to make the tiebreaker whoever has the most votes in the previous round.
Compare Henderson, Mautz and Mathews stats. Not much difference that I can see from a quick look.
