jj-cf-stlParticipantA shutout with 7 singles allowed is some good pitching vs a good lineup.

ParticipantThat’s a Winner! Nice to see us jump out early to a lead and add on the whole game. Something I haven’t seen much this year. Good pitching the whole game Ours tonight Go Cardinals!
August 8, 2025 at 10:15 pm #290024Your guys’ “automatic outs” are hitting .400 with 67% of the teams’ runs
Pages got 2 hits for his Yadi Daddy! That was the difference.
August 8, 2025 at 10:38 pm #290025I like Jo Jo and O’Brien closing out games. Our bullpen is really not any worse than it was before the deadline. It may even be better. Not near as much Maalox.
August 8, 2025 at 10:57 pm #290026. . . Yadi called Mo at the beginning of the season and asked if he could be in the dugout for this series because it lined up well with his schedule. And Mo asked Ollie if he was good with that and he said yes. . .
Ain’t philosophical harmony a beautiful thing? It’s how ya win, baby!

I didn’t buy much into Romero being shipped at the deadline. Didn’t really make much sense.
O’Brein is someone I think they were intrigued by last year but injuries got in the way. Now that Maton and Helsley are gone he and a couple others can get a little more run.
But as with anything bullpen related. Might want to keep the Maalox close by just in case.
August 9, 2025 at 2:47 am #290028Guess I’ll be cranking up the replay after breakfast. Nothing like watching our birds squash the Cubbies to start my day!

stlcard25ParticipantNice win…I watched the highlights this am. Good to see Walker tap into a little power. He’s got so much talent. I’m hopeful that he will continue his solid hitting since his return and build on it for the future. Maybe he won’t be the Aaron Judge lite we were hoping for upon call up, but .800ish OPS with acceptable defense in RF would be wildly better than we’ve been getting out there lately.
August 9, 2025 at 8:43 am #290037For what it’s worth, Walker has given you that OPS since July 1. He’s at .821 – 2nd on the team to Contreras in that timeframe.
August 9, 2025 at 9:13 am #290040Jnevel, where did you get that OPS figure? When I looked on Baseball Reference they had a different figure.
August 9, 2025 at 9:23 am #290041Forsch – I got it on Fangraphs. I just reverified and it is indeed what Fangraphs says. Slash line of 318/366/455.
His BABiP is .417 in that stretch which is very likely unsustainable. Therefore, I’m not in any way suggesting that Walker is suddenly a good hitter. But he is hitting the ball really hard and he is striking out less. Those are big positive points.
I just looked at Baseball Reference and I don’t think they have yesterday’s game in there yet. That’s 2 singles and a home run in 4 at bats.

stlcard25ParticipantMLB’s stat page has the most up to date stats, and he’s indeed been over .800 OPS since his return. I think that’s possible for him in the future, but it will be up to him to keep making adjustments to stay there. We really need another bat or two in the lineup. Walker is the one that makes the most sense of all the young guys. Go get it, Jordan!

jj-cf-stlParticipantWalkers “2nd half” split, is a quick reference point to his totals, since returning from the IL.
August 9, 2025 at 10:39 am #290045I’m happy for Walker. Seems like a good guy. We need one of these prospects to be that big bat in the middle of the order. (BBITMOTO)
August 9, 2025 at 10:41 am #290046The first time I looked on Baseball Reference, his OPS since July 1 was .730. Yesterday’s game jumped that OPS 91 points to .821. That just goes to show how small sample size makes a difference.
August 9, 2025 at 11:35 am #290048His OPS since July 18th is .821. He was on the DL or held out from June 23nd until the 17th and I guess the rumor is they had to bring him up because he didn’t have any options left. Don’t know for sure.
I’ll believe it when I see more of it. His profile currently says he needs to hit to stay in the lineup because we all know he’s not walking to improve that OBP or fielding at any sort of high level. Like I said earlier, if He hits .750 ops and puts 10 of them total out of the yard the rest of the way I’ll give him some runway into next year but I think this is just another teaser unless proven otherwise.

Yep. His OPS since Aug 8 (yesterday inclusive) is 2.250. Ha!

jj-cf-stlParticipantAn expected BAbip decline could also get washed away by an increase in HR%. 12 of his 30 total bases are on doubles, 4 on a solo HR. Both could normalize some.
August 9, 2025 at 12:16 pm #290054Is it ok to be a fan when a guy is finally going good?
August 9, 2025 at 12:20 pm #290055
jj-cf-stlParticipantLol, what have you done for me lately?
August 9, 2025 at 12:30 pm #290057Lately is fleeting and short lived. It was either Aristotle or Yogi who once said, “We are what we repeatedly do”…
