I’m guessing that they cannot, but it would be interesting to see what Memphis relievers are in the crowd at least for tonight’s game. Might be an indication of how many they plan to trade in the next 23 hours.

Abel (who someone wanted) went to the Phillies in the Duran deal.
Baez, the Mets #8 prospect is a 3B/SS who’s got a .744 OPS in A+. ETA is 2027.
Dohm, the Mets #14 prospect, is also in A+ ball. Nice stats and is starting games, but looks to be on the Tink Hence plan with about 3 IP per start.
Elissalt is not ranked, and appears to be a starter/reliever. Nice stats as well, but like the other two, only in A+ ball.
Both Baez and Dohm had injury issues on 24. Baez tore his meniscus and Dohm had forearm issues a couple seasons in college. Appears both seems to be working back from those things.
Based on our recent trading history this means the Mets will make the WS and Helsley wil be NlCS MVP! Good for him! I’m glad he is going to a winner!
Trade looks decent for the Cardinals and decent for the Mets. If any of these prospects makes it to the big leagues, it’s a very good trade for the Cardinals. Helsley will certainly help the Mets for the next two or three months, so it’s already a very good trade for the Mets. You have to believe that the Cardinals had other offers for Helsley. Mozeliak and staff judged this to be the best offer.
I’m not exactly a fan of this trade just on the basis of wanting quality over quantity. In 2023, we got a bunch of players and none of them have really turned into much. Just wish they would do a one for one and get the best single prospect possible.

From an initial glance at this trade, I completely agree with this. I’m not a fan of this trade. This team does not need quantity over quality. This team desperately needs to find some above average players.
A 40+ and 2 35+ FV guys. I would have taken a single 45+ guy over that package. Maybe some of them will improve, but this is the same approach this org has always taken and playing it safe. A part of the reason the Cards are where they are right now is they have been so safe and never take a big swing. Playing it safe keeps you around .500, but it doesn’t help you get to the top of the league.
The Giants traded Tyler Rodgers for 2 players to the Mets that were both better and closer to the majors than what any of the players the Cards got. They got a 45+ and a 45 FV. Surely the Cards could have gotten a better deal.
Johan Duran was traded for a 45+ and 45 as well with one of those guys being Mick Abel.
Yeah Duran should have netted more, but Rodgers and Helsley should have been equal.
I think this also shows why the Cards were dumb to not trade Helsley in the offseason. A full year of time for him and they would have gotten a better deal.
I did only check one source which was Fangraphs. MLB seems higher on the Baez and Dohm. BA seems high on Baez as well. Maybe not as bad as I initially thought, but I’ll have to dig into each guy to understand each one a little better.

It doesn’t usually work like that. Deadlines inflate the price a lot. They probably got just about the exact same thing as they would have gotten.
Baez is a really exciting prospect to get. The 2 pitchers have some interesting qualities, although they both feel like lottery tickets. Dohm is a least a legit prospect though – just more likely to end up as a reliever at the big league level.
The players the Mets sent to SF in the Rogers trade have warts. Butto is out of options and may have been squeezed out of a spot with trades at the deadline. Gilbert would need a 40 man roster spot this year and there is some belief he will be a AAAA player. Tidwell is also a high risk pitcher. He needs to harness some control.
