Matz for Jordan looks like a good deal on paper.
Look under the hood a bit more and you’ll see a guy who might be a 20 homer bat who is slow and has limited range and is limited to first almost exclusively. My guess is money is going back to Boston.
I mean AGAIN I don’t know what people expected for the both Helsley and Matz.. Getting Boston’s 8th-14th prospects who are a couple seasons away possibly and Boston #17 who likely blocked and limited position wise seems like about the best we could get.
Jordan was a 3rd round pick that got early 2nd round money. Sell Baker to Korea and let’s try the new guy
I’m not saying it’s the wrong thing to do for an expiring asset but there’s is a good chance none of the three ever really contribute.
You could be right and wrong. All I know is both were coming off injuries in 2024. Dohm barely pitched at Mississippi St. And still was drafted in the 3rd round and Baez tore his miniscus which cut his year short but He’s rated 60 power and 60 arm by MLB.com Baez landed #6 on our prospect list.
Jordan is a 2020 draft pick. So he was a year behind and he for some reason decided to sacrifice power for more contact so far in his career Only 38 K with 33 BB in 353 PA. Oh and Chaim drafted him in Boston.

That’s my point. Actually only 10% of ALL minor leagugers make it to the bigs. So criticizing this trade by sayimg these players have little chance of ever making it to the majors isn’t really going out on a limb, is it? They are in dire need of right handed hitting power prospects and they got one. They got 2 other pitchers who profile to what they drafted this year. Im guessing this has Blooms fingerprints all over it. Give it at least the the 10% chance the odds say it has!
We may be stocking the farm, but with these roster spots opening up, runways are being cleared for our youth right now.
I guess I like Jordan a little better than the undersized infielder. Give the Luken Baker model another shot. We need a MOTO type, so why not.
They are really committed to the swing and miss pitchers. Never mind they all end up on the shelf.
Jordan absolutely crushes lefties. He has a really weird profile overall. But if he can just pinch hit vs lefties like what they wanted to do with Baker, that has some value at least.
And, getting a team to pay all of the rest of Matz salary AND give us one of their top 25 prospects feels like a great deal.
They had Maton stay behind today for their road trip in anticipation he is traded. Everyone else headed out.

If the Phillies want to give us Andrew Painter for Donovan, I’d consider that too. But I’d be hoping for someone who’s established as a mid rotation guy.
Otherwise, I’m fine trading Burleson or Noot. Both sort of feel flash in the pan-ish so if they get a return on one and keep the other, so be it.
I never thought I would say I would rather have Burly than Noot. But it’s not reaĺly close. Burly has stayed healthy and progressed. Noot hasn’t.

Or are they #8 and #14 overall for the entire big leagues?
There could be a huge difference here.
If they are #8 and #14 for the Mets we got basically nothing for Helsley. Players that won’t ever amount to a hill of beans. Nice job Mo.
To be fair, Jesus Baez was ranked #92, in the top 100 in all of baseball, by Baseball America prior to the 2025 season.

Jordan is still playing 3B at AAA in a 50/50 split (with 1B). It would be rough going from Arenado to Jordan, but we did put up with Carpenter and Freese at the hot corner for several years.
Either way, this is a player we can really use. Plus he’s actually younger than Wetherholt.
The cubbies got Kitty! One of my worst fears has come to fruition, as he’ll shore up that cubbies bullpen. We should have never let Kitty fly the coup.

Watered down 3 for 1 returns on rentals is understandable, but not for our 1, 3 and 5 batters. The Matz trade was a consolidated return, surprisingly. Hat-tip.
I’m ok with losing an expiring contract for a good young hitter but not Burleson or Donovan. We need starting pitching next year and those 2 are the most likely to bring a young stud.
So far the trades have been ok. Nothing great, nothing bad. If even one of those guys comes out as a decent mlb player, i consider it a positive. Helsley was a good cardinal so for that reason i hate to see him go but i wish him success with mets though i hate the mets.

Matz was actually good this year. It is a shame for the Cardinals he waited until his walk year to do anything valuable.
Blaze Jordan appears to be a replacement for Luken Baker. The jury is still out if he is big league capable or not.
Maton is a given to move today. Will anyone else? I’d imagine that an overwhelming offer for Romero or one of the lefty hitters could bring another trade, but probably would say that has about a 15-20% chance of actually happening.
I am just glad the Cardinals actually accepted that they were not contenders this year and sold at the deadline.
Didn’t do anything to address our outfield situation, so they need to be prepared to spend on some OFs in free agency.
