September 24, 2021 at 2:42 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 153 thread – Friday, September 24 at Cubs (DH G1) #173341
Was looking like it’d be worse than a leak, but Happ found the zone again and cubs obliged.
Carioca,
Yep, things looking much better for the Cards today compared to a short time ago. That data you pulled is old, though. I’ve been tracking this on betting sites and others. BR has current WC odds at the following:
LA: 67.9% (because they still have chance at division)
StL: 98.6%
Cin: 0.9%
Phi: 0.3%
NYM & SD: both < 0.1%https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2021-playoff-odds.shtml
September 23, 2021 at 8:00 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 152 thread – Thursday, Sept. 23 at Brewers #173290bling is quite a philosopher in addition to all else. So the Cards are in the midst of 12 consecutive 1-game winning streaks. One game at a time, stay focused, respect the game, come to play, and 26 men together can’t lose.
September 23, 2021 at 7:02 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 152 thread – Thursday, Sept. 23 at Brewers #173283Right you are, bling. Who needs the stinkin’ wild card? Run the table and watch the Brewers fold, haha.
September 23, 2021 at 1:28 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 152 thread – Thursday, Sept. 23 at Brewers #173241What’s with this YouTube BS?? I assume we can just do a search and then cast it to a real TV?
Casting can work, but might not give the best stream depending on what your set up is. You need a smart TV …. or …. a device like roku, firestick, chromecast, etc., connected to your “not smart” TV. Then just start the Youtube app, search for “MLB”, then select the game on the MLB channel.
You can do the same on your smart phone or computer. If there’s no Youtube app on your device and you don’t want to install it, you can go to youtube.com on a browser and do the same.
EDIT, just noticed Tscurlo had already provided much of this info!
September 22, 2021 at 9:19 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 151 thread – Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Brewers #173183The faces of the Brewer fans, back behind Goldy’s close up shots on camera, tell it all.
Tscurlo, I can’t fault them, they’ve never seen a ball hit 700 feet before.
September 22, 2021 at 2:56 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173138Hate to ask again but is there a graphic available to show ump accuracy for last night?
Mr P,
Below are two charts (one per team for all pitchers) that show all called strikes and balls so you can grade Mr Nelson.
First for the Cards pitchers: From what I can see, Cards pitchers were gifted one called strike where the dot is completely outside the zone (that was Garcia in the 8th, ironically when he walked Vogelbach). I don’t see any pitches the Cards were squeezed on where the pitch was totally in the zone yet called a ball. I see maybe one or two pitches on the lines of the rectangular zone which were called balls. I assume balls that touch the rectangular box should, in theory, be strikes.
For the Brewers pitchers: It appears to me there were 8 pitches that were completely out of the rectangle that were gifted as called strikes. I don’t see any pitches the Brewers were squeezed on where the pitch was totally in the zone yet called a ball. I see three pitches on the lines of the rectangular zone which were called balls. Again, I assume those balls should be strikes.
I’ve read that calls for high and low pitches on these graphics are less accurate than inside or outside. That’s due to the top and bottom of the zone varying from batter to batter. Not sure how good the adjustments are for that.
Also, it you want to pull these graphs yourself, play around with the tools at baseballsavant.mlb.com and use their illustrator. You can pull any game of the year. There are filters that let you pull by team, specific player, pitchers or hitters, fastball, curve ball, pitch result, etc.

Nice Randy Marsh reference.
September 21, 2021 at 10:05 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173081Gallegos handles Reyes like he should’ve handled the entire inning. Just throw your stuff. Cards squeak one out.
September 21, 2021 at 10:02 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173077Wow, Cards put winning run on 2nd by walking a slumping Yelich. Let’s see how this strategy works out!
September 21, 2021 at 10:00 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173074Gallegos is tight as a drum. Quit taking 2 minutes between pitches!
September 21, 2021 at 9:56 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173070I’ve noticed Gallegos becomes very slow and deliberate with runners on base. He doesn’t seem to do as well with that approach. Just pitch, darn it.
September 21, 2021 at 9:55 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173068Ump missed the call at first on Cain. You don’t often see a call that bad. I wonder if the umps have a 2 beer per inning limit in Milwaukee.
September 21, 2021 at 9:37 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173061Garcia limits the damage to 1 run. 2-1 going to the 9th.
September 21, 2021 at 9:30 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173055Game too interesting now. Garcia gives up a walk and double (Wong). Tying runs on, one out and a pow wow on the mound.
September 21, 2021 at 9:22 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173048Are you watching the game stlcard or looking at the graphics? I’m watching, but looked at Savant’s illustrator to confirm what I’m seeing. It’s not close to going both ways. Just a second ago, the Brewers broadcasters said they are getting a generous zone.
September 21, 2021 at 9:17 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173045Nelson continues with the wide zone for Cousins, however Edman delivers a hit to drive in Nootbaar. Score 2-0 now in the 8th.
September 21, 2021 at 9:06 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173034Raise your hand if you would like to see Cabrera come back out in the 8th. I saw Pugs hand go up before I finished the sentence.
September 21, 2021 at 8:35 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173020Wow, Reyes walks Wong on four pitches but the last pitch was closer than about 6 of Woodruff’s called strikes tonight. I long for the day they eliminate these buffoons behind the plate.
September 21, 2021 at 8:32 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173019Nelson was pretty good at first, but the last couple innings he doesn’t think Woodruff can throw one outside the zone.
September 21, 2021 at 7:59 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173012Woodford threw 26 pitches in the 1st. Has thrown 34 more to get through the 4th.

September 21, 2021 at 7:06 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #173002Woodford escapes the 1st with no scoreboard damage, but throws 26 pitches.
September 21, 2021 at 6:50 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #172998Edman walk and stolen base, Goldy ground out to advance Edman, O’Neill sac fly get the Cards up 1-0 in the 1st.
September 21, 2021 at 6:31 pm in reply to: 2021 Cardinals MLB Game 150 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Brewers #172996how about Wilbur Wood or Kerry Wood……or a super cool one……Woody Woodward……any others?
As youngsters, played strat-o-matic with a friend who loved to go with Woodie Fryman as his starter.
