I see our dear birds continued their inexorable slide toward sub-.500 land last night with little evidence any help is on the way. I attribute our performance, however, to an excess of toxic charcoal smoke in the air and players focusing far too much on dreams of BBQ sauce and certain Busch products. Tonight surely will be different and our Central Division friends will do their best to keep us near the top of the standings even as our captain steers the Good Ship STL onto the rocks. Rah Cardinals!

I don’t know how many of us stayed up late enough to watch the conclusion of the game last night but it wasn’t over until 1:00 eastern time. The Cards trailed 6-3 entering the 9th and loaded the bases with one out against the lefty McGee. And Arenado struck out, got fooled on a slider or a curve and looked bad. Then Pujols was up and he hit a little weak ground ball back to the pitcher.

Folks, if you would have seen Pujol’s atbat in the 9th last night you would almost have had to cringe. He looked lost up there. He’s completely done. And yes, he’s done against lefties as well. He is not doing himself or the team any good. He really needs to just step aside, just retire. Maybe his plans are to announce it next week and have the home series with the Reds just before the All Star Break as his farewell.

Either way, he is lost at the plate. If you would have seen his atbat in the 9th you would have to agree.

Great description Rats. I was long asleep by then. Wore out with July 4 anyway. Glad I missed it. So so tired of seeing us load bases (alot of times with no outs) and come away with zip. Would rather see a guy bunt and put the ball in play even if we come out with just one run.Swinging for the fences just ain’t cuttin it anymore. Jeez half our lineup now is rookies. I suppose they still teach them how to bunt in the minors. Did I say it drives me crazy?
Din-din will be one of my favorutes chicken fried cube steak. But not way too much like last time.5+ era against us tonight. Maybe better tonight. Go Cardinals!

I went to the Twins White Sox game last night and just assumed the Cards game had been cancelled. But turned it on to double check when the Mrs and I got home and there it was. What Rat said regarding Pujols couldn’t be more accurate, a part of me genuinely felt bad/sad for him. At the same time I was yelling at Oli through the TV.

Yes, albert is clearly done. His presence is of value to the young hitters, and I could envision a bench coach role for the second half, but I am sure he is too old school to fit with Ollie and the gaggle of wonks once he steps down from playing.

Albert didn’t get an award last night. Must be saving it for later. Seems like every time they award him we don’t hit and they beat the tar out of us.Contibutes to our ZipWHOPer which is still at 7 I believe.Unadjusted for ball park conditions and hot dog stands!

So sad to watch Albert now. They need to sit him for good. Hudson was abysmal.

ZipWH0Per of 7 before the all-star break is bad. It was 10 for 2021. I see Wooster has the cause and effect figured out. No more awards, please.

Notice the top 5 in tonight’s lineup are the three rookies plus Goldy and Arenado.

Is the signing of Romine and the sending of Herrera back down to Memphis a wake up call for Knizner? Does Knizner think he’s got the starting job next year all locked up?

The Edman move will start paying dividends soon. Good thing Mo and Oli pay attention to where those deck chairs belong.

The only thing I’ll say about the pujols at bat. He did make contact, arenado struck out. So out of the two, pujols looked better. But pujols looked bad in the eighth as well. Could be he’s just one of those guys who needs to play to produce well but that’s not going to happen. I think he can still be of service but that’s just me. Of course I’ve already read the tea leaves and pretty much know how the season is going to go so I just have different goals than a lot of people here for the rest of the season.

It seems strange that Ollie chooses to play Capel over Sosa.

How can these announcers say pallante is doing ok. It’s 5-1 in 3 innings.

Its 3 2/3 and 7 runs, but who’s counting. Another short and crappy start.
