Good point….. since they are still on all the prospects lists, I personally still consider them prospects/minor leaguers.

I’d rather package Piscotty with one of our pitching prospects or OF prospects for a good reliever or a prospect we can flip in another trade….

Very good question, Grichuk and Piscotty are almost as good as gone right?

Ozuna, Pham and Fowler will be the starting OF, Jose Martinez will likely be the 4th OF.

There is still Bader, Oneill, Sierra, Arozarena, Mercado, Garcia, who are all either ready or will be soon.

If Grichuk and Piscotty are both moved, who fills in as the 5th? And what if we make another trade for an OF or sign a Jay Bruce type (which I’m for).

Longshot guess here, but I’m predicting Alcantara, Grichuk, Jake Woodford, Z Gallen and Conner Jones…… likely way off, but that would make sense.

This would be great! If they can still find that #1 guy, then Nicasio, Gregerson, Lyons, Cecil, Tui, Brebbia/Bowman would be amazing.

Wow….. trading him wasn’t a bad idea, trading him for nothing is unbelievable. I️ sure hope they know what they are doing, I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling it’s Stanton or bust at this point?

I like the Ciuffo idea compared to over spending to sign an overpaid vet for 2M, if Yadi get’s hurt then they’d be in quite a scramble though. I’m not against giving Kelly everyday playing time in AAA as an extra bonus.

Second question, would they be willing to give up the 40 man spot for him this early in the offseason?

How about something like Stanton, Gordon and Ziegler for Wong, Grichuk, Sandy A and Woodford. Then Miami pays 2M per year the next 3 years, and if he opts in for the final 7 they pay 4M per year?

Mo’s “comfort zone” needs an upgrade from iPhone 1 to at least the iPhone 7…. when it was working, great, but it’s not!! Spend in prospects and money to get two Middle of the order guys, an decent starter who will throw 160+ and two guys to compete for the closer role. OR Cards fans won’t have anything to do again next October!

Correct, I do not see Pham having a year like he did this year. Trading him while his value is maxed out is what I’d do because of his history. The $43M was their income in 2016, with around a $150m payroll. With another $30-50 in the new TV deal, if they don’t have one over $175M it would be fair for all fans to be extremely disgruntled.

Growing net worth is not, but pocketing a few (43M) plus the new TV deal?

I don’t suggest throwing away Pham by any means, but his value will never be higher and if they get a 3 and 4 hitter to play RF, 1B or 3B then I’m all for him in CF or LF next year. Rewinding a year and knowing how he would turn out and avoiding Fowler would be nice.

You have to give something to get something unfortunately…. which is what Mo doesn’t seem to understand, when he has overpaid he hasn’t had good luck. (Fowler and Cecil)

Do you think the Marlins or Rays would take less?

If my boss said, “hey, we are moving you from St Louis to Seattle, but about your no trade clause”…. my first question would be “what NTC, when can my plane leave?”

I love Matt Carp, but I feel he’s clogging a lot of things up. Sadly, Fowler isn’t going anywhere, he’s either in CF or LF on opening day and likely atop the lineup or close to it. Also, with the extreme lack of any middle of the order hitters at all, literally ZERO, a corner OF spot, 3B and 1B are going to be the easiest to fill.

So of course I’ll make my suggestions, and trying to be realistic in my old age……

    1) Get as much trade value as possible, and as soon as possible, out of Carpenter, Pham, and Grichuk for the best prospects/young players available and focus only on getting the most value, regardless of position, level, etc unless it’s a Grichuk for great reliever type of deal (once again, they are stuck with Fowler).

That would clear three 40 man spots which are becoming increasingly high in demand. Also, this sheds Carps $13.75M off the books for next year.

    2) Use the return from Carp to trade along with Wong, Sandy A. and Jordan Hicks to Miami for Ozuna and Gordon (Cards take on all of the salary to give lesser prospects back).

    3) Use the return from Pham (or trade him there) along with Alex Reyes (yes, I said it) and Sierra for Chris Archer

    4) With the new TV deal, butts in the seats, the revenue from BP village, etc. if payroll isn’t over $175M after two awful seasons, I would be a very upset Cardinals fan, as will most be if they are fluent in Revenue + growing net worth – Expenses – Taxes – Interest = A BOAT LOAD OF PROFIT

    5) Sign JD Martinez or J Upton for around 5/6-110/125M (20-23M/yr)

    6) Sign 2 rehab project starters for innings

    7) Sign 2 rehab project relievers

    8) Resign Nicasio

    9) Resign Duke

    Gordon
    Fowler
    Ozuna
    Martinez/JUpton
    Piscotty/Jose Martinez (1B)
    DeJong
    Gyorko
    Yadi
(3rd place hitter magically slides to 6th with decent hitters)

    Archer
    Cmart
    Weaver
    Wacha
    Waino/Lyons, etc

BP is still Nicosio Duke Cecil Tui Brebbia Lyons, etc…. BP’s are fluid, I agree with Mo on that

Mo is out on a golf course, he had a noon tee time since he knew he wouldn’t do something to help the club long term.

I personally have never said a word about the BP,

If any other ideas are floated for a 3, 4 hitter are thought or pondered about I’d love to hear them, but the BP is pointless unless they score runs first and if are down can score more, once again, DeJomg Gyorko and Yadi aint gonna do it, that’d be an ok 6,7,8 if that can be an option

    I’d trade four 5’s for a 9.5 any day…..

I’m not going to write a long post about who they have to protect or lose, but there are roughly 60 that need to be squeezed into 40….. 5 = 1 and another 5 = 1. Then who do the Padres take? S

To Bill DeWitt: I sell to big ass forture 2000 accounts every single day, and YTD I’m making a 38% margin, please accept the same, 38% has given my wife our view, her car and my…. well I didn’t get anything, but she doesn’t complain anymore which is payment enough. So please accept 38% and get the fans someone they can cheer for again…. Gyorko just makes me want to go have a hot dog, a footlong one, with cheese, and chili, and……. ketchup

Even throwing 6-8 a year at Fowlers deal, who would want him?

Gyorko I get your case, but regression is going to happen, so sell high when you can.

My entire philosophy is, that they will not win without actual 3 and 4 hitters, any other ideas on how to acquire those are more than welcome.

Trading a 2 2 2 does actually equal a 6, trade a 4 4 4 to get an 8 is what it actually takes. Valuations are not linear, Mo doesn’t get that. Talent/Skills are not linear, they have 20 guys that are average, trade 3 – 5 to get one exponential one, which is not a linear statistic.

Fowler, as it turned out, was a bad signing, but he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

And you can’t waste a LF spot for an inconsistent bat like Grichuk, Piscotty is 60/40 on turning it around, Pham could be the real deal, but if you have a 401K or Etrade or Scottrade, etc account, you know it’d be smart and sell high…..

catching the Cubs now is about as likely as Mila Kunis finding the fat kid in the sandlot attractive.

Move Lynn, Rosey, Oh, Carp, Gyorko ASAP and switch those parts and some internal parts for Ozuna and Donaldson.

I said this in another post(sorry for the repeating), but DeJong, Gyorko and Yadi as 3, 4, 5 aint getting the Cards to the playoffs!! Do they thing Voit is going to be Albert? That was a once in a lifetime event Mo!

No 3,4 hitter in 2018, and no hope, watch the scramble after the ticket sales and interest plummet from DeWallet.

A front office turning side pieces into at least something…. what a concept! Do all the other GM’s hate Mo (who is still running things regardless of his title) and that’s why he can’t make transactions like this?

The Cards don’t need a full reboot, just an unplug, wait 10 seconds and plug back in type of scenario. They are not going to win with DeJong, Gyorko, Yadi at 3, 4, 5….. But having 25 capable pitchers and 15 OF’s in the next few years does a lot of good, when 25 at most can be on the 40 man.

Make deals even if they aren’t perfect MO!!
