Two things, sticking Herrera at DH for the next five years isn’t the end of the world, however, if he doesn’t work out at catcher at least playing an outfield position with a bat that is well above average isn’t the worst thing. Secondly, if Noot is showing, he is healthy in spring training, I could definitely see him being moved sometime in March.

Albert, I believe Mathews will have to be added to the 40man at the end of the season so I’d believe they will call him up for at least a cup of coffee.

Doyle will not have to be added yet, and if there’s a lockout, guys on the 40 man cant even play in the minors. So taking their development time with him, before adding him to the 40 Man so that he could pitch competitively in the start of 2027 could be majorly advantageous.

Don’t agree with that 7 ATM, but if you’re doing it in order Pallante is behind Leahy and definitely Dobbins.

Just took a look at stats, etc. of guys they have added over the last year or so. One that I didn’t realize that had a lot of potential is Mason Molina. He could be a major league starter someday, some of the guys are destined for the bullpen, of course, but he definitely one to keep an eye on for me.

Willie, bet ya a wooden nickel May puts up an ERA south of 4.28?

Wouldn’t be tough for Fitts, Leahy and Dobbins to be better than Pallante, Mikolas and Fedde.

I could actual see the rotation being better than the 2025 version.

Losing Gray stinks but it isn’t like his actual numbers were good overall. May could easily put up better numbers.
Leahy, Fitts and Dobbins will be better than Pallante and Mikolas….

Prediction: 2026 SP ERA will be better than 2025’s

Agreed Gscott, I’ll be shocked if both Pages and Crooks are still in the organization on St Patrick’s day 2026.

    I’ll respectfully and exponentially disagree…..

4 years in the majors and one “full year” in 2024. Take your “profit”. Risk of being hurt in July is more than possible.

People against trading him have never heard the term “economics”.

Please explain how holding him is smart vs “Don’t trade Donovan” faceless argument.

He will play somewhere…. but not on the Cardinals. Clearly he’s more valuable to the organization as a trade chip than he will be in 2026 and 2027 in STL.

Keep in mind, when the Cardinals are ready to contend by hopefully 2028, he will be a free agent and the Cardinals could very easily sign him back.

Which is actually another reason to get a deal done quickly and stay in his good graces so you would be open to coming back.

I think Brian is saying we need to bring Albert back in 2028?

CinF, when he was getting every day at bats last summer and settled in, he really wasn’t that bad in the field or at the plate. Which is why I hope in the beginning of the year they tell him the spot is yours, just don’t suck!

    Opening Day Lineup
    Herrera – C
    Burly – 1B
    Sagesse – 2B
    Winn – SS
    Gorman -3B
    Andujar – LF
    VS – CF
    Noot – RF
    Moncada – DH

    Torres, Church, Crooks, Fermin

That isn’t that bad of a lineup, but no clue who would lead off.

It’s time to get a deal done for Donnie and Jojo, for bats, not pitchers. There aren’t enough SP spots already! This new guy from AZ will probably start out in PB?

Chaim’s To Do List This Week
    – Trade Donnie for a top 50ish AND fringe top 100-150 prospect, more than fair
    – Trade Jojo for a top 200 prospect
    – See if a team would trade a draft pick for Pallante if the Cards cover some of his salary (this might be a wait for a ST injury trade)
    – Sign Andujar (LF/RF/DH) $6m
    – Sign Moncada (3B/DH) $7m
    – Sign a reclamation project SP $5m
    – Sign the best available and willing to sign with STL LHRP $5M
-Puts the payroll around $114M with possibly very good trade chips

Then the offseason can basically be wrapped up and guys can start packing for the FL sun if they aren’t there already.

I mentioned that earlier too GScott, I’d probably root for them or at least be interested in keeping an eye open on how they are doing.

The happiest guy in the entire St. Louis Cardinals organization today is Nolan Gorman. I hope they give him everyday at bats at 3B, at least for the first half to see if he can get it figured out with some consistency and without looking over his shoulder.

8th round pick, ERA was bad in college, K/IP good. K/BB was 3.33 which isn’t bad.

Katie Woo says Dbacks and Cards are “in serious discussions”.

I’ve seen them linked to Goldschmidt as well, that be quite a story of those two ended up back together.

I love that, when I saw that the Luna kid was likely to get 3 million, I thought that would be pretty much the entire pool. I’m actually a little shocked it’s gotten up that high.

We always hear about “cash considerations”. Could a team tie “cash considerations” to WAR? I can’t find any articles on “the google” in regards to that and we never seem to know what they are.

    Example:
-Cardinals trade Arenado to team X for either a low level prospect/pick/intl money.
-Rockies 5M goes to team X
    -Team X agrees to pay $1M in 2026 & 2027
-Teams agree 1WAR=$9m (I would assume they all probably have their own WAR valuation)
-FG’s projects him at 2WAR in 2026 actually (easy # to use here)
    -Team X pays the $1M, then at 2 WAR, he is valued at $18M – $1M = $17M
-Then the Cards get back the $17M cash considerations in 2026

For team X, I think that could definitely
help if they are in the luxury tax brackets. I think “cash considerations” would not be added on team X’s luxury tax/competitive balance number.

It’s an outside the box creative accounting idea. Look at the best team in the league, the last two seasons, accounting skills on Cots. Let’s trade for those folks?

With the Cards trying to cut payroll and find guys for the “contention window to open” and the Rockies needing any arm, they have a tradeable pick around 35 or so.

Pallante has 3 years of control, who says no on just Pallante for their pick?
