stlcard25ParticipantI am among those who temporarily forgot that the Cardinals plan to sign a veteran right-handed hitting outfielder.
Austin Hays just makes too much sense at this point. He mashes lefties and always has, is an actual useable OF (unlike Miguel Andujar, who is bad out there), and at this point in his career, will likely be fine with a platoon role. Noot-Scott/Church-Hays against lefties and Noot-Scott/Church-Walker against righties. Maybe Torres sneaks in if the CF duo struggles.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThey may sign a FA outfielder, but wouldn’t the top end of the outfielder market want to sign with a contender, without Bill overpaying to come play for a rebuild?
What outfielders may fall thru the cracks to us, may not have a salary that demands starting. Most fringe FA outfielders have a handedness issue that limits their playing time and salaries.
A FA platoon bat signing for off the bench would keep runways clear and adds temporary depth for Noot, but a trade adds the service years for developments sake, to chase a higher reward than deadline chips.
January 14, 2026 at 10:44 am #299181I hope they don’t play musical chairs matchup ball like you guys are talking about. TLR was old fashioned, they are neither men nor machines, they are a collection of data to be input so the algo can say who to play where and when. Who wouldn’t perform well in that environment?
January 14, 2026 at 12:42 pm #299185JJ, your answer is Andujar
January 14, 2026 at 12:53 pm #299186
jj-cf-stlParticipantActually no. Whichever FA rentals they prefer is of little consequence to me. Just more guys on NEXT list!
What Bloom builds, with club control attached matters a lot.
January 14, 2026 at 2:47 pm #299190I still think:
Donnie gets traded
Jo Jo gets traded
Noot gets traded
We sign one of Andujar, Hays, or Bader1B- Burly
2B- Wetherholt
SS- Winn
3B- Gorman and Saggese
LF- Church or Andujar or Hays
CF-Scott
RF- Walker (sigh)

stlcard25ParticipantWho catches, gscottar? Crooks and Pages?
January 14, 2026 at 4:56 pm #299195Most likely but I still think there is an outside chance Crooks gets traded.
January 14, 2026 at 6:13 pm #299197Agreed Gscott, I’ll be shocked if both Pages and Crooks are still in the organization on St Patrick’s day 2026.
January 14, 2026 at 6:53 pm #299198DO NOT TRADE DONOVAN!
January 14, 2026 at 7:01 pm #299200Seems to me that they at least have to give Crooks a look at the major league level. He could make a promotion difficult for Bernal.
January 14, 2026 at 8:11 pm #299205PLEASE TRADE DONOVAN!
January 14, 2026 at 9:27 pm #299210Never forget to read Nate’s posts.
January 14, 2026 at 9:53 pm #299212Why…he is wrong.
January 15, 2026 at 5:06 am #299219
jj-cf-stlParticipantFree Donny! He deserves the Edman path and he won’t get it in Stl.
January 15, 2026 at 8:24 pm #299291If we do trade Donovan I sure hope we get something in return.
We got nothing for Arenado. A guy that might be an All Star the next couple of years.
Chaim isn’t exactly off to a roaring start.
January 15, 2026 at 10:52 pm #299298Game Card
1. You are wrong.
2. Use a question markJanuary 16, 2026 at 11:43 am #299322I know we need outfield help, but with the Buchette signing, would the Red Sox part with Early or Tolle? Either would be a great major league ready arm. Our rotation would go from so so to pretty good.
January 16, 2026 at 12:22 pm #299324After the Tucker signing and the Dodgers prospect “richness” and the Cards need of a RHH OFer, the Cards could be the “buyer” to try and be respectable.
-Dodgers get Donnie and Jojo ($10.6M combined)
– Cards get Emil Morales, River Ryan and Teoscar w/ B/O paid in 2028 (19.94 CBA number)2026 – $19.94 -10.6 = 9.34 + 9.34 x110%
So it would save them roughly $20M in 2026 and a better balanced team.January 16, 2026 at 1:09 pm #299326Bloom will be looking for a stopgap guy hoping that the system will pop out a guy.
January 16, 2026 at 1:16 pm #299328I agree for the most part, but let’s call a spade a spade and say that 2026 will just be a fun season to watch the minors. I’ll look at milb box scores a heck of a lot more than I will the STL version of the organization.
Teoscar is signed for 26 and 27 with an option for 28 which could be the Cardinals first truly “go for it year”. If they could get those prospects plus Teoscar in return, the STL organization would be better for it.
January 16, 2026 at 1:22 pm #299329How is the bottom line number determined to get the welfare check for DeWitt?
January 16, 2026 at 1:43 pm #299330I still think:
Donnie gets traded
Jo Jo gets traded
Noot gets traded
We sign one of Andujar, Hays, or Bader1B- Burly
2B- Wetherholt
SS- Winn
3B- Gorman and Saggese
LF- Church or Andujar or Hays
CF-Scott
RF- Walker (sigh)
DH-HerreraI’m in the same boat, and I know you said Crooks being traded, I think it should be Pages. Tampa’s trade for Lux may have squashed my latest idea of sending Donovan and Pages to Tampa; Nootbaar, Romero, and Prieto to Arizona with a prospect from Tampa and the Cardinals getting SP-Brody Hopkins and OF-Jamie Quinn-Irons from Tampa and OF-Ryan Waldschmidt and IF/CF-Tommy Troy from Arizona. I think to Donovan options are getting limited to mostly San Francico and Seattle, maybe the Yankees. I see a lot about Montes and Cijntje from Seattle and I don’t like either of them.
I like the idea of signing Andujar, but he would DH mostly for me to start the year and get some LF and 1B time. I want to see Harrera behind the plate again about 60% of the time and DH the other 40% letting Crooks have that 40%. Pozo has options and can start the year in AAA and if Herrera can’t handle the catching the go with Crooks and Pozo, until Bernal and or Rainiel are ready to get their chances in the future.
Something like
1. Wetherholt -2B (L)
2. Winn – SS (R)
3. Burleson – 1B (L)
4. Herrera – C (R)
5. Gorman – 3B (L)
6. Andujar – DH (R)
7. Church – LF (L)
8. Walker – RF (R)
9. Scott – CF (L)
Saggese- IF (R), Fermin- IF/OF (R), Torres-OF(L), Crooks- C (L)
But also why I liked the idea of adding a legit SP prospect like Hopkins in the trade for Donovan and also getting Waldschmidt who could move into LF or RF sooner rather than later and a guy like Troy who could take CF if Scott proves hes not an everyday player or if Gorman isn’t the answer at 3B, Wetherholt could shift to 3B and Troy and Saggese could get 2B and start shaking things out for the future of who is built around.January 16, 2026 at 2:32 pm #299334I think we’re rounding 3rd and jogging on into home plate on putting this Donny being traded possibility to bed. The only way Donovan was going to be dealt was if tha Cards were totally and unequivocally blown away with an offer. The odds of this occurring are extremely slim. But I guess it does no harm and even is kind of amusing to explore the “what if’s”……..so let us carry on, gentlemen.

MrperkinsParticipantWith regards to Nate Leopold Jr, I have a hard time taking anyone seriously that always complained about the Cardinals not making moves or winning World Series. Then when they did those things in 2006, he said that winning the World Series was the worst thing that could have happened to the Cardinals. Pick a lane! Him and Charlie Johnson have probably a million complaints registered on these pages.
Edit: although I will at least thank Nathan for not frequently including his supposed 180 IQ or whatever it was in every other post like he used to. -
