Great discussion of the Rule 5 moves. I was a bit surprised to hear that Winquest was going to be in the top 20 on TCN top 50 list. I agree it is hard to grasp keeping some of the marginal position players on the 40 man and leaving a valuable arm flapping in the breeze. Also agree it was a net loss in the R5. We can’t afford net losses.

I didn’t know that the change in the baseball itself going from AA to AAA can cause a drop in a pitcher’s velocity. I guess this is why Matthews had a drop in velocity at AAA in 2025. I was down on Matthews, but now I’m hopeful again. You guys put together a great WWW especially since this has been slow week for MLB. Thanks.

What is reason for that? It’s usually financial so – are minor league baseballs cheaper?
ZTR, that’s the way I understand it. My question would be why couldn’t they make the stitching “heights” basically equal even if the leather and how it’s “wound/hardness” is a bit different? You’d think there could be a closer medium on the stitching in this day and age. If we can put a man on the moon 59 years ago they could surely figure that one out!

Very good discussion this week and especially the prior week. Very interesting thoughts about the MLB baseball potentially being a source of injuries since players have to throw more effort to get the same results. It would be interesting to have some study done to go wider across all of baseball to collect some data and some statements from the players on the MLB ball. Would injury rates go down with the higher seam ball? I’m guessing they are concerned about pitchers performing too good stifling offense and choose that ball for that reason, but maybe it is also contributing to the other problem MLB wants to solve which is injuries.
I look forward to next week’s possible conversation about the minors rotations. I’ve been prepping info for my predictions on the thread and hope to do so in the next week.

I really enjoyed the discussion this week. I definitely line up with Brian’s thoughts more on who will go to what level, but completely agree it all depends on how these guys look in spring as some may have progressed a lot and others stalled. Doyle I particularly would not start in AA though and would have him in A+, but I would communicate with him that he most likely gets promoted within a month depending on how things go. I hope he has good results, but more want him to focus on his offspeed pitches.
Agree that AA is where it is confusing. The guys in AA from last year are ready for AAA with Hansen being borderline, but the A+ guys from last year are not ready. Kyle is correct they have to be aggressive with someone and my thought is it is Mason Molina and Blake Aita.
Just took a look at stats, etc. of guys they have added over the last year or so. One that I didn’t realize that had a lot of potential is Mason Molina. He could be a major league starter someday, some of the guys are destined for the bullpen, of course, but he definitely one to keep an eye on for me.
Is there a world where Zach Thompson, Packy Naughton, and Victor Santos have been spending more time and energy with the new staff than anyone else? Could these three be the first test cases?
What if each returned with even modest increases in velocity, pitch shape, and command over our last visuals of these three?
Santos was 6-7 at Memphis as a failing starter, but he logged half a season at AAA. There was a version of Thompson we would all love to see again. What if an improved version of the flame-throwing Thompson re-emerged?
You don’t have to squint too hard to see Packy Naughton as a true asset with the simply logical results associated with the organizational improvements we’ve seen applied to the rehabilitation of pitchers. This surely has been an area of focus considering their pursuit of May and Canning.I always forget about Thompson and the Pack-man. If healthy, either could be the other LHRP at less than a million.
Roby and Hjerpe will be headed to the 60 day DL when eligible so there will definitely be spots open.

Am I the only one that doesn’t understand the need for renovations and particularly having tax payer money go to it? The stadium turns 20 years old this year and was built for $365 million and they are seeking $500-600 million for renovations. The stadium seemed in great shape when I was there and did not look in need of renovations at all. It should be a little embarrassing for owners to spend so much money building a stadium that lasts such a short time without needing more work.
Things like plumbing, electrical, lighting, etc….could be needing to be replaced without fans knowing about it. I really don’t know what all they are planning to upgrade but they seem determined to get public funding for it. I hope they don’t start threatening to move to the suburbs or something.

Because billionaires cannot be expected to invest in their private businesses that they run for personal profit when they can get the working class to pay for their business.
DeWitt started floating the idea of public funding for renovations two years ago. Now that he is an MLB welfare recipient, he expects to be a taxpayer welfare recipient as well.

Just listened to last weeks show and had to laugh. Bryan Torres is listed as a catcher on baseball teference bio page and has 400 minor league innings catching.
