Phillies just signed Andrew McCutchen to a 3 year deal
Pirates- Jordan Lyles RHP basically replaces Ivan Nova who was traded to White Sox earlier today.

The meeetings are showing a faint pulse finally.Dim but there.

Seems I have read that the Reds are in on several SPs…..Kluber,Bauer,Miley,Kuechel,Happ.Sounds like the Reds FO is growing iterd of waiting for all those young arms to mature .I would think pitching half your games in that bandbox would definitely make a pitcher think twice about signing with them.

We just aren`t all going to agree.I think that fact is a given. Was checking some twitter info on MLBtraderumors and Jeff Passen seems to think that there are many deals being tossed around and today should have some trades happening.Of course that’s a guess but we shall see.

Rumor says Kikuchi really likes SF.
Why would Twins give up years of control in Taylor Rogers .They would have to be blown away by the trade offer.
Reyes likely will be eased back into bullpen when and if he is ready
Will Smith isn`t here yet. It would be nice but another 2019 Free agent?
Kimbrel wants big dollars and leong contract. If Cards won`t spend on Harper why would they spend on a older BP guy with declining velocity and the Cards past record of failed bullpen signing.Gunshy IMHO.
Astudillo…..I think Cards want a more veteran backup. (Rob Brantly,Pena,Carlois Perez etc;)

And how much AAA experience does Edman have…..I month.I like Edman also but thinking he can make the jump to MLB and be a in-house option this coming season is based more on hoping instead of reality IMO.Offhand I cant think of a in-house LH bat who can play INF who could play a factor in 2019 (Max Schrock but hes not on the 40-man and possibly could be picked in Rule5).Justin Williams is a LH OF on the roster but he is likely buried behind the Albatross,Ozuna,Bader,O`Neill,MR Baserunner Adolis Garcia and a cast of thousands.

Robert Reed- Sportsmanship, character and integrity means that Ty Cobb shoud be kicked out. What about the racists, drunkards, ones with criminal inscidents that have been elected to the HOF?You want to have a baseball HOF combined with a Angelic perfect person HOF?Your wanting to apply your standards to everyone else reeks of censorship and suppression IMO.I might not agree with some writers opinions but I also don`t try and preach from the pulpit.Saying Greenies were not against the rules is your rationale …..yet is not greenie a drug which elevates body chemistry of the user? Hypocrisy IMHO.

Is serviceable all you want? As for Pham…he`s gone and good riddance. After years of being a guy who generally defended the FO and their style of business I have finally gotten irritated enough to vent .Now as I said earlier that if the FO pulls a good trade aor two and upgrades I could rethink my view but I am waiting to be impressed.Fowler in RF and Carpenter trying to play 3B does not impress me.I realize Carp will be at 3B until his arm falls off.Thats likely a given fact.Fowler makes me puke.

IMHO if Fowler is the starting RF opening day that tells me this team is happy being a fringe contender and refuses to get in the adults pool.Fowler was,is and will be a mistake that keeps on stinging the Cards .If the Cards won`t spend money on Harper (26 year OF) this offseason what makes people think that the FO will get involved in spending for Arenado (who will likely cross the 25-30 million AAV threshold and Anthony Rendon who might be a tiny bit cheaper? Arenado will be what 28-29 nex offseason and Rendon just turns 30.Two top of the line 3B stars and both are very good offensively and defensively. And people think the Cards FO will spend next season..LMAO.

CArds claim Ryan Meisinger RP from Orioles 24 years old .first MLB action 2018 2-1 6.43 ERA 21 IP 21 K 10 BB 1.33 WHIP.Young bullpen arm looks like.

BW-nothing wrong with that. Not arguing just have doubts Cards go spend more on a utility guy.FWIW I liked Ty Wiggington and really hoped he would work out.Sadly for all he failed miserably.Maybe that decision is still in the mind of the FO along with the Fowler screwup/Gregerson deal.

No Brian I doubt a SP ace is on the radar.Another guy who can fill SP-RP role wouldn`t hurt thing at all.Another Veteran arm to throw in the mix ( Jordan Lyles,Tyson Ross)who can do both start and bullpen.Just a thought as a hedge against the injury bug hitting again.

I want the best player possible .Cost be damned but as you and others point out Cards tend to be somewhat tight with the cash at times. Also I figured Cards would probably stay in their comfort zone (a greg Garcia like player with a Greg Garcia like contract).I could be wrong. but none of us know until it happens do we?

Cabrera is a good suggestion but do you really think Cards will pay him 8 million a year to be a utility guy and would he take a utility type job? He was a starter last season and as generally always been a starter.

    CMartinez-injured part 2018
Wacha -injured part 2018 chronic injury problem
Mikolas-surprised everyone all season. Will he do it again?
    Gant-versatile swingman
    Gomber-swingman-flashwell in some starts…others ?
    Hudson-never started MLB game
    Flaherty-solid young arm
Poncedeleon-had limited action but did well
    Helsley0 injured ,likely AAA again
Geneisis Cabrera-little LHP only had a couplke weeks at AAA,moving to bullpen?
    Wainwrigt-ghost in the shell

a lot of options and good potential but sure things…no.

Since when has Wacha stayed healthy a full season? What if CMartinez `s 10 cent head dereails his million dollar arm and he gets hurt again or Mikolas regresses? The odds of all that happening should be rare but after 2018 season nothing would surprise me.Who would have figured Luke Weaver to completely have the wheels fall off or Greg Holland to have the worst partial season of his career?Pitching is always a guess because the unexpected can always rear vup and bite you in the butt when you least expect it.

Bccran- I love the Cardinals and have for close to 60 years.Yes several kids got valuable experience and the injury bug took a big bite out of the Cards butt last season.I like Goldy and am a big fan of O`Neill,Hicks,DeJong,Gomber,Bader and Hudson. Its not doom and gloom …its just I hate seeing a real possibility for the Cards to really boost the team with Harper (we will continue to disagree on him) and take a bigger step up to get ahead of the Cubs,Brewers etc;.Its like Cards are putting too much hope into Carp being able to play 3B adequately before he blows out his shoulder again, hoping Fowler can return to his usual mediocre status and that none of the young kids have downturns like Luke Weaver did last season.
That’s a lot of hoping. Now if the FO/MO makes a couple of solid deals /signings and improves the team then my view could change.I am waiting to be impressed by them.

As long as its okay to have “meaningful” discussions I will talk about whatever I want and about whatever player I want and how said players could fit with the Cards. Those are meaningful topics to me and apparently some others.

That is likely so Brian-IMHO its a huge mistake because its based on hoping Fowler can rebound and Carpenter can play 3B adequately.I doubt both possibilities.Rag armed 3B do not make for good defense along with horsecrap RF (Fowler). So right now the Cards have bought a fancy new bowtie and put it on a pig.It might be a pretty new tie but its still put on a pig.Unless the FO pulls a monster good trade or two in vegas its still just a pig.

Nobody likes players to have a advantage over other players. The facts are baseball has had a long history of players looking for a edge by whatever means possible-Gaylord Perrys spitball,Elston Howard using his buckles on his shin guards to cut the baseball for Whitey Ford and other NYY pitchers,Amphetimines, corking bats,Pine tar (hello George Brett),etc;.Players are always looking for a advantage legal or otherwise. While I always hoped baseball and my
favorite Cardinals would be above the antics of others that kind of thinking is fantasyland stuff. There is too much money involved for a player to fall behind his peers. What ticks me off is that while some players getcrucified by fans other players like Big Papi get a free pass and now some writers are starting to rethink Barry Bonds for HOF while continuing to rip Clemens ,Palmiero,Sosa,McGwire etc;.Bonds is the biggest cheat out there and if you continue to keep other players out for that reason then he should need a ticket to get in the HOF.Selective enforcement don`t cut the mustard.

Counting on Reyes for anything is fools choice IMHO.Yes it would be great to see him come back at 100% but until he actually is able to do such a thing then anything from him is jut gravy.Right now production from Reyes is wishful thinking.I like the kid and really hope he can return at top form but you just can`t count on that.

Bccran- I dont think its obsessing to want the Cards to take the chance of getting a 26 potential cornerstone player who is just now in his mid 20s (26) who can provide solid offense and decent defense for years to come.Sure it will cost a lot but it will be a pre-emptive strike in case Goldy,Ozuna and poissibly Gyorko and Matt Carpenter leave after 2019 (Carp,Gyorko have options ).Besides there will likely be huge dollars off the payroll after this coming season. So any sting from a signing of Harper will be somewhat offset by the losing dollars of Goldy,Wacha,Ozuna etc;.I realize it is rare for the Cards to wade in the adults pool but sometimes when you have a opportunity to play in the adults pool and make a big splash that can very probably help you for years to come then you do it.I understand wading in the kiddie pool is not exciting but its the safe way to do things and some prefer the shallows and are happy watching the other teams take some risks.Even if Harper goes elsewhere the Cards still need to get another impact hitter and if not Free agency (Hell no to Brantley) all other FAs are over 30.Then you have to go the trade route and that costs prospects and likely some players.I am fine with trading Gyorko or JMartinez or even Carpenter for a real 3B.Freec agency only cost money.Trades cost players. So its pick your poison.

So he missed some time. How many games did he play in 2018? We get it Cran you simply dont like Harper or paying big dollars for anybody.I got news for you....get with the times and the days of indentured servitude and cheap contracts are long gone.Thats the way the business of baseball is heading. This isnt the 50-60s anymore.I remember baseball in the 60s and how the game has changed. You either adapt or stagnate .BTW Harper averages 131 games a year even with some injuries. And nearly 4.0 WAR yearly.
