As was proven today, trying to guess who and when the next example of awesomeness will occur is impossible.

This is funny. As they say, stats never lie. 😉

This is too funny. They updated the article. Here is what it says now.

Boyd surrendered another home run to Blaze Alexander soon after Báez’s third shot.

These guys are masquerading as professionals.

I don’t study others rankings before I do mine. I sense there is a “new guy” syndrome that may lead to early too aggressive placement by some raters. For example, I like Frias’ potential a lot, but not yet fourth in this system. He was in some Brewers’ top 10s but in the second 10 in others, a system ranked very similarly to the Cardinals this year.

Good point on Fajardo. He is getting it done. Through two starts at least, he is handing Double-A just as well as he did High-A.

Sadly, Sports Illustrated isn’t what it used to be with real credentialed media. Now it is blogger content mostly. The difference is opinion pieces (which anyone can write from afar) vs. stories backed up with real reporting. In the day, SI had some of the best baseball writing out there.

From my perspective, Redbird Rants was in a similar territory. It just wasn’t a place I ever went. But when MLB.com hired Josh Jacobs, that was a positive change. However, my understanding is that Josh is writing remotely, so he is not with the team. Still, it is a nice feather in his cap.

You are right. Jordan is also a possibility to be sent down if they want to give Gorman another chance.

For me, a reliever is always going to be ranked below a comparable starter. Unless Lin returns to the rotation, his comparison group is different. Then, there are the results.

Lin is not progressing at all. Including last season, his Double-A ERA is 5.58 in 26 games. Since June 1, it is 7.71. It remains to be seen if Lin the reliever will be better than Lin the starter.

Cijntje is apples and oranges. The Cardinals liked what they saw enough to promote him to the Triple-A rotation a month ago, while Lin was moved to the Double-A pen. That major divergence in direction speaks far more loudly than comparative numbers to me.

I ranked Lin 44th, right ahead of Pete Hansen, who is in the same boat one level higher and I have Lin just after Cade Winquest, who is an improving Triple-A reliever. Kyle took Lin out of his Top 50 entirely.

Always happy to explain my thinking…

Agents do not have a prominent role in the negotiations. Boras offers his opinions, but of course, they are always slanted toward the players.

    bling asked:

Shouldn’t Urias be returning soon? And I guess Gorman?

Urias, yes. Gorman, not so likely.

The current bench is Fermin, Torres, Pereira and Pages/Crooks. Not a clear drop as there was with Prieto, let alone two drops.

In two weeks, the roster can expand to 28. That might be Gorman’s best hope. One position player and one pitcher is my guess. But if Torres is the odd man out for Urias, he may be on the inside track to come back on 9/1 ahead of Gorman.

Well, that writer is not correct. If it is a name you’ve heard of before, attach more credibility to it. Everyone has an opinion and a keyboard these days.

For me, the plan was clear when Noot was traded. They just needed to wait until 8/15 to keep Baez’s rookie eligibility for 2027.

It is even sometimes familiar names with odd takes. Just last week, a former MLB.com beat writer said that Bernal would be called up last weekend or this past week. It is like he didn’t understand the Cardinals already have three catchers. Always good to have your filters on.

P.S. Next time, if you think about it, please share the link to the article so we can all read it.

    Quick hitter replies:

Clarke – I get it, but for me, it is too early to react.
Lin – Moved to the bullpen after struggling.
Odle – Having a good year.
Cruz – Agree. I rated him 46th on my personal list.
Cho – Look at his numbers this season. Quietly excellent and better since his promotion.
Maniscalco – Both very young and totally unproven. Any ranking right now is a shot in the dark.
    Mitchell – Underwhelming.
Gurevitch – Superb July, terrible 1H of August at AA (sub .200 BA, 45.5K rate).
