I know most probably aren’t into this licensing of the Sports Illustrated name matter, but I found a fascinating article. The SI name has been licensed to casinos, hotels, sports related parties, youth sporting events, apparel and nutritional products, as well as to the guys who crashed and burned with the magazine and website.
The company that owns the brand still needs to have the SI name relatively untarnished to make it worthwhile to all of these licensees and to the consumer. What is a challenge is that these companies do not have common ownership.
This is so typical for these guys. They pulled the same “not share the customer list BS” when TCN left the network (before they moved to SI). Not good people.
Sports Illustrated missed its May edition due to a breakup with its publisher, Arena Group.
Sources said that Arena Group refuses to turn over the subscriber list to the new publisher, Minute Media, causing delays in distribution.

Does SI still do a swimsuit issue? That used to be highly anticipated and I think was a way to lauch modeling/show business careers. I don’t recall seeing anything about it for a good while, or maybe I’m just so dried up now days I haven’t noticed.
I missed the news from last year that David Hoffmann (the guy who made the news when he said he wants to buy the Cardinals) bought controlling share in the parent of the Post-Dispatch, Lee Enterprises.
Now, Hoffmann has bought KMOX and other StL radio stations. He also wants to buy a TV station and reiterates his desire to own the Cardinals.
