Shame on him if losing a spot caused him to sulk and play poorly. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt as to his professionalism. He needed to put on his big boy pants and play the same way wearing the Memphis uniform. You never know if someone on the MLB roster will get hurt tonight and his turn would come up.

Pereira was twice a top 100 prospect. He does fit the bill as a right handed center field candidate. Much better than playing Fermin out of position. I wonder if he’ll play center against lefties? It’s also better to play Baez in left, although he could man center.

    From the transaction page:
08/10/26 – Peoria Chiefs released RHP Jawilme Ramírez.
    08/10/26 –
Memphis Redbirds released RHP Victor Santos.

Santos had been pretty decent throughout his rehab and since returning to Memphis so that one is a bit surprising. Ramirez has never been decent, so far less surprising. With Santos, the decision likely came down to him being a free agent after this season and them deciding he isn’t going to be major league caliber by then. Might as well play someone else if that’s the case.

Santos will probably get a minor league deal with somebody at some point. Possibly the Cardinals.

Cut off from the bottom of the post:
RHP Branneli Franco has been transferred from the FCL to Palm Beach.

RHP Kaden Echeman (A) has been activated from the 7-day IL.

RHP Victor Santos (AAA) & RHP Jawilme Ramírez (A+) have been given their unconditional release.

As a reminder to those who subscribe, there is an article detailing all these moves and their implications on the front page. I don’t post these here every time, but I document most all player transactions via article. Of course, our team rosters and the Roster Matrix are current (and free).

A timely homer revs the hype. Hopefully Everson turns into a find, but lets remember who he couldn’t stick with.

As noted, his comparison bar was set very low. An above-average MLB player would be just fine as a stop gap.

How came any praise is derisively called “hype”? The guy had a good game with the bat and glove and positively affected the outcome. Give him that. No one is talking about Cooperstown here.

I’m hearing Joshua Baez is getting called up for tomorrows game.

    Today’s transaction list:
08/14/26 – Palm Beach Cardinals placed RHP Keiverson Ramírez on the 7-day injured list.
08/14/26 – DSL Cardinals released 1B Christian Sáez.
08/14/26 – DSL Cardinals released RHP Ryan Rodríguez.

I thought Christian Sáez might be a bat that would advance when he first was signed, but he really fell flat this year.

Also, no mystery about who is being sent down:
08/14/26 – St. Louis Cardinals optioned 3B César Prieto to Memphis Redbirds.

Shouldn’t Urias be returning soon? And I guess Gorman?

It will be nice to see someone who may have a role in our future. Best of luck to Joshua Baez.

This seems weird but i had just read an article saying baez prob wasnt going to be called up cause he has a lot of swing n miss. That it more than likely would be benal since hes further along and has less of that. Interestimg.could of just been idle speculation but the writer seemed pretty sure.

Well, that writer is not correct. If it is a name you’ve heard of before, attach more credibility to it. Everyone has an opinion and a keyboard these days.

For me, the plan was clear when Noot was traded. They just needed to wait until 8/15 to keep Baez’s rookie eligibility for 2027.

It is even sometimes familiar names with odd takes. Just last week, a former MLB.com beat writer said that Bernal would be called up last weekend or this past week. It is like he didn’t understand the Cardinals already have three catchers. Always good to have your filters on.

P.S. Next time, if you think about it, please share the link to the article so we can all read it.

    bling asked:

Urias, yes. Gorman, not so likely.

The current bench is Fermin, Torres, Pereira and Pages/Crooks. Not a clear drop as there was with Prieto, let alone two drops.

In two weeks, the roster can expand to 28. That might be Gorman’s best hope. One position player and one pitcher is my guess. But if Torres is the odd man out for Urias, he may be on the inside track to come back on 9/1 ahead of Gorman.

Jordan has been pretty benchy lately. Some of it maybe giving Prieto some ML PAs before he left. But, that was the important thing??

You are right. Jordan is also a possibility to be sent down if they want to give Gorman another chance.

Everson Periera becoming the hype that he had the potential to be is the kind of Devil Magic that I grew up on. And he’s 11-ish months younger than Nathan Church!

    (Semi tongue in cheek)
Maybe strap Kyle down in case Baez has a good game.

Well brian i dont have any idea how to share a link, i do all this from a phone. Im sure its easy but just not sure. I read the article in redbird rants, josh jacobs i believe was the writer. There was also a similiar article with sports illustrated. They didnt say bernal was going to be called up but only to note that he should. I get the 3 catcher thing but with all these catchers including rodriguez on the doorstep, you need to start getting that settled and figure out who you can deal in a package. At least that was the thinking.
