Next wave coming in September or sometime in 2027 –

    Baez
    Bernal
    Mathews
    Doyle
    Cijntje
    Hjerpe
    Fitts

What happens with McGreevy, Pallante, Leahy, and Dobbins?

For one not all those pitchers will work out, some may go to bullpen roles. Pitching almost always works itself out. Bernal is a different story. You can keep him down but that blocks rodriguez a bit but he still may need more time to hone his catching skills at AA. A lot of 27 depends on non playing questions.

Baez, Mathews, and Fitts are the only three on that list that I think will definitely be on the 2027 team.

Doyle hasn’t even been to AAA yet, Cijntje needs more time at AAA, Hjerpe has quite a history of injuries, and either Bernal or Crooks are likely to get traded before next season.

I think trading bernal before ypu see what hes got at mlb would be a mistake. Crooks has had at least some opportunity but has he had enough. I dont know. All these catchers have had some hype, best we find out the truth before we let the wrong ones go.

The other side of that argument is that Crooks has probably hurt his trade value by his dismal results in STL but Bernal’s trade value is still high since he hasn’t had the opportunity to hurt his value yet.

Depth is needed to cover for injuries.

You may be right, but Doyle is coming like a freight train. Something has clicked in a good way for him. I’m thinking he could be ready by mid-2027. Cijntje is also really close. He’s been getting better and better and as long as his hamstring tweak isn’t too bad I could see the same path for him over the next 10 to 12 months.

Of all of their starters, Liberatore and Pallante could be upgraded. Pallante and Leahy have been way better than I expected. In fact, Pallante could be dealt in the off-season. Bernal is someone I’d like to see this year. Does Crooks handle the pitching staff that well? His bat has some pop, but he strikes out too much, which Bernal does not.
