A lopsided score gives players on both sides a chance to fatten up on mop up guys.

Just the simple move of sliding deJong below Yadi in the order would help. Get all the guys who are contributing in a row without the dead spot. I would even do it today with Knizner in there.

Dean entered the game with a .000 Batting Average and .125 OPS. He left the game with a .200 Batting Average and .773 OPS.

If our whole outfield could face nothing but more Korean League mop up guys for a couple weeks the problem would be solved.

Good point jj. On the other side of that coin, the Brewers being way ahead, our late inning offensive burst led by Dean came off a failed MLB reclamation project just back from a stint in Korea.

8 games into the season and 4 of the 8 regulars are hitting below .200 and the super-sub is at .000.

Maybe that’s the low water mark. We can check back after another 8 games.

Maybe if Brian passed out some crayons. The non-toxic ones.

Basically we have the same guys in the top half of the order who have been getting it done still trying to get it done and the same guys in the bottom half still not getting it done. Hope we can pull it out but I have to run.

Gamecast shows Williams, who was on 3,B struck by batted ball. Supposed to be on the foul side of the baseline there, but ok, I remember my first day ever playing this game.

Efficient 3rd helped, now pitch count 57 after 3.

Did anyone catch the exit velocity on the DP O’Neill barreled to short. (color commentary)

Worth considering batting Carlson higher in lineup

I am old school and would wait until his OBP cracks .300

DeJong knows that manning a premium defensive position and averaging a homer a week punches his ticket. In 2019 he hit .233 and was an all star. .318 OBP. 30 HRs.

Sosa is going to have to wait for two things to happen, namely, the Carp honorarium to play out and Mo’s due diligence with the outfield prospects eventually leading to Edman playing out there so we can see if Sosa and/or Rondon can play. It will take time. Bader will return and hit .225 with 30% K rate while cutting down the reps available for the others and probably pushing the only threat we have off the bench off the active roster.

It will be less exasperating if the staff and the top half of the order keep racking up wins.

The tradeable pieces are guys like Helsley, Fernandez, Oviedo, Parsons, Roberts, Rondon, Pallante, etc.

Mo: But, Jeff, the next RA could be hiding in this box of spare parts, you could redeem yourself.

    Bridich: Really? Hmmm.

It is questionable to compare war of a defensive player with an offensive player. For the time period mentioned, Bader oWAR 3.6 Ozuna oWAR 7.1. Bader’s dWAR for the period is 3.5 and Ozuna dWAR -1.3. So Bader’s looks like a center fielder and Ozuna’s looks like a corner outfielder.

I hadn’t realized Jon Jay re-signed with the Angels on a minor league contract. He is on their taxi squad.

Due to small sample size it may be worth expanding Brian’s info dump.

A wild card is Nogowski. He can hit, but whether he could maintain it as an MLB regular is unknown. I don’t know if he could be an everyday OF, and I don’t think we will ever find out. It is too bad he lost some PAs to Carp with Goldy out yesterday.

Don’t get me wrong here cranny. I am not saying I think there is anything to found here, except hopefully Carlson being an upgrade from Bader in CF. It is the legacy of the Arozarena flub and we were put on notice to expect it this year. No point tearing your hair out all season.

Ultimately I think it likely to play out like this. Mo decides there is nothing there except Carlson replacing Bader. Pitching gets traded for a corner OF with a bat. By season end it is Carlson, Edman and new guy out there, with Rondon or Sosa at 2b replacing Carp on the roster. With Gordon coming in next year either in OF or at 2B depending on where he can play.

Seeing Delvin Perez buried well down in the also rans got me wondering about how many years of control we have left with him. He was young when we we drafted him, age 17 his first year in the system. Not sure of the effect that has. Also not sure if 2020 counts. This is his 6th calendar year in the system although he is only 22. I know the story from earlier in the spring, that he has found a new maturity and serious approach. Put on muscle, etc. But if he runs out of time it doesn’t matter. Not to us at least.

Well, yes, Cranny, but this is what we expected. Fowler was moved and his contract eaten to clear the way for this very thing. Run these unproven guys out there and see if any of them can play. Meanwhile an eye will be kept on Gordon as well. We will have a lot of young pitching on display this season and I have confidence some of that talent will be mined to bring in a corner OF bat at some point later on. I suspect, though it is only a guess, that the brains are thinking Carlson’s bat plays better in CF, so that is being run up the flagpole as well. A lot of moving parts. For now, though, Mo is still seeking the next Arozarena before deciding who to move out.

Pitchers drop like flies now days. Three can turn into one quick. I am content to see who can answer the bell by late July and then look at possibly making a move. Of course, if our fortunes turn and we are getting our head handed to us obviously Mo’s hand could be forced.

I am not high on O’Neal as some others are. His K rate remains abysmal and his productivity has declined since the big 2018 half season in Memphis. I think the 2020 disruption hurt him especially bad. People talk about working on pitch recognition, etc., but in his 9th pro season there is only only so much to be expected in the new tricks department.
