I keep watching opponents get 10 pitches before they single or hit a home run. Then, we get ten pitches and strike out.
We had the division won. Losing four in a row reminds me of the Phillies in 64 when we won about ten in a row to win it after they lost about eight in a row with about a six game lead.
It is frustrating that Miller has had a part in three of the four losses (assuming we don’t come back), a major role. We keep throwing them in there based on what they did five years ago.
DeJong HR and a Bader walk. It just seems we can’t get the Goldy, Ozuna, Carp group to do anything at the right time. Fowler and JeJong have been a part of it. Those who have ability need to play like it. It isn’t like we have faced world class pitching in these four games.
I did want J Martinez to stay. But, he hasn’t exactly been stellar in this stretch. Fowler ends that shot.
Well, those two runs won’t count against Miller They should. He has allowed five runs of his own and two for Brebbia in his last 2.0 innings. Right now, we can’t afford to let him see the mound again. I think we have him signed through next year. Ouch.
Rockies with the same problem. A leadoff triple leads to a K, a play at home to get the runner, and a flyout—no run to tie.
Goldy has done everything wrong at the plate tonight. Struck out with a runner on third. Kills a rally with a DP.
Infuriating. Edman gives us a chance, runner on third, three runs in, and Goldy can’t even get a fly or ground ball to bring the fourth run home?
I think we can live without Fowler and Ozuna at 236 and 243. Pop flies become adventures with Ozuna. Not worth $12 million in the market.
We can also live without Miller. We might have clinched this thing if Miller hadn’t pitched the ninth of that 19-inning game.
I simply do not believe this. We have struggled to hit. But, we have taken the Cubs in Wrigley in three straight one-run games, two by pitching.
One hit, four walks. I do grow weary of walks by our pitchers and strikeouts by our hitters. We do well when we actually hit the ball or let the other team hit it.
I am astounded!!
There is no way that a team that can’t hit can get one hit with men on base and win a game on that ONE hit.
Pitching just keeps on being the best.
Have baseball scouts proven to be that accurate in evaluating talent? I wonder if a losing attitude taken by the team, even if it is out of the playoffs, is worth sliding up or down one or two spots when it seems that it is difficult to tell who is a #25 vs a #40 player. I might call up a prospect and let them get a taste of the good life before I would give away a game.
I keep remembering the 1964 season when Philly lost ten in a row as the Cards won about 8 in a row at the end of the season, 3 in Philly. We barely got into that Series as they Phillies collapsed.
Then, I look at our hitting recently and wonder how we have survived. Carlos, tonight, raised those fears again. Thanks, Carp. I had lost faith in Carp totally, and he gets the biggest hit of the season.
It is frustrating that Goldschmidy, Ozuna, DeJong, and Molina are so non-productive, unless one gets seven RBIs in one night.
Edman on HR. Bader—speed gets us a cheap run. They just can’t resist trying to get him at third. Risky throw.
In the past two games, Wong is 5 for 8 with a walk and sac fly, four runs scored, and four RBIs. In the two games we lost 2-1, he was hitless. It is becoming important to have a #1 or #2 who is hitting.
Good call. Wainwright was at 97 pitches, wouldn’t last another inning. Bases loaded. Even a run brought home would probably seal the game. Six runs home kind of help.
Wainwright’s control and command of the game seem to improve when he gets a lead. That was an 8 pitch inning.
We have struggled in the last two games against Houser to score. Got 3 runs, one earned for a win. Then, got one run, earned, in a loss. Got five earned runs in four innings back in April.
