Three errors will get you beat. We won 3-2 if only earned runs were counted. How much did Carpenter’s injury affect his ability on defense? Could that be why he missed the ball?
This is our best lineup.
I think we would be percentage points being the Phillies. The last forty-one games may be so close that we are looking at ties with head-to-head games deciding the races.
I worry with Weaver.
The Cubs still seem to like Fowler, and he seems to love the Cubs. The worst that would happen if we gave him back to the Cubs is that he might replace a competent Cub outfielder.
Right now, I would much rather have Bader, Ozuna, and Martinez with McNeil and Garcia as fourth and fifth options. Which of those would you want to send down to keep Fowler? I’ve seen too many mistakes in the field, and his arm is inadequate for a rightfielder. Occasionally, he does something really good. But, those occasions are rare. There is no future in which I can see him as a starter.
Did we get Fowler because we lacked a CF and wanted to get back at the Cubs? If so, they won that one.
I think we are about two weeks away from knowing exactly what we have. This has been a good two weeks. Our young pitching has been the best group of starters in the league recently. The bullpen is now adequate, little more. The lineup seems to have a different star every night. The guy who was 0-4 last night gets three hits today. You can win with this lineup if that energy persists.
