RBK, “apparent future success”. Maybe not to you. But to me and many others. Let’s see how it plays out in the next few seasons.
“Apparent future success”??? Really? If it’s so “apparent,” why can’t you commit in advance to a specific set of standards/metrics for what would constitute “success” for a player with Burleson’s defensive profile?
Imagine taking a victory lap over a bat-only player delivering a .729 OPS in 51 games . . .

I sure hope they can get close to Burleson’s future success in the MLB.
What does that even mean? You hope Saggese and Prieto can get “close to” some “future” level of success that hasn’t even been defined, let alone achieved? What are you talking about?
“Amazing hitting instincts”??? He has a .689 career OPS. At his current career peak in 2024, he has a .729 OPS. And this is from a bat-only player who is a defensive liability.
Tell us, Shady, what kind of OPS do you think would be necessary to justify regular starts (on a good team) for a one-dimensional, bat-only player? Give us a number. Let’s see what level of offensive productivity you’re willing to commit to in advance as a specific, concrete measure/standard of success.
How about we wait until Saggese (74 wRC+ at Memphis) demonstrates he can be at least an average hitter at AAA before we talk about him as a MLB 2B, let alone SS?

I’m not sure why they are treating Hjerpe with kid gloves. I understand that approach for HS who really need to build up innings and a full season, but Hjerpe threw good innings in college. They need to let him go out there and throw 100 pitches a game. The best way for him to work on his command is to throw more pitches
Can’t say for certain, but I suspect the intervening injury and clean-up on his elbow from last season have some bearing on how they are building him up this year.

I’ll bet the Phillies would be really interested if Johnny offered up Burleson for Nola…The Phillie fans would see Burly as the second coming of Kruk…They’d love Burly in the city of brotherly love!
Forget Nola, the Cardinals would have to demand Wheeler or Suarez in that deal . . .

Until yesterday Saggese has had a rather underwhelming year so far. He is hitting .240 with a .714 OPS. He will need to turn it up a notch on a consistent basis before he gets the call to drive up I55.
74 wRC+ at AAA. He’s been 26% worse than average thus far. Like Burleson, he makes a lot of contact but swings at everything and won’t take a walk, so I guess it makes sense that Shady loves him . . .
Milb has an article about on one of our prospects Giulianelli and his screwball. The other day I was wondering if anyone still throws the pitch still. They have a video clip of it and it is nasty.
Hard to wrap one’s head around this, but based on the grip, it appears to be a backup slow curve, caused by the highly unusual (past-over-the-top) release point. CB would seem to match up with the velocity and spin rate.
I see where Wong can’t even stick on a minor league contract. He’s the same age as Arenado.
Maybe he can join Arenado in AA Springfield . . .
Meanwhile, what’s wrong with Randy Arozarena? He is having a “Cardinal-like” early season; .156 average and 63 OPS+.
Weird season for him so far. Looks like a combination of some bad luck (.189 BABIP) and materially worse contact quality (LD% down to 11.7% from 18% last year; Barrel% down to 7% from 12.3%, etc.). Also, his K% is up 5 percentage points. So a perfect storm of less contact + worse contact. His xBA is .201, which is pretty bad, but it’s certainly better than his .156 actual BA. Only 217 PAs, though–things can change quickly with such small samples. (Which is my hope for several of the slumping Cardinals as well.)

2. This is your sixth “trade Arenado” post since April, yet we’re still waiting for your actual trade idea/proposal for Arenado to the Dodgers (or any other destination) that would realistically make sense for the teams involved.

4. Let’s try to stay on topic, shall we?No, you don’t get it. There is no realistic Plan B for multiple core players playing below their baselines. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Donovan, Nootbaar, etc. are either going to revert closer to their means, or the Cardinals will fail, because a team with a $170-175mm payroll isn’t going to just replace multiple core players, especially in the middle of the season. And no, calling up guys like Prieto or Saggese (and his 74 wRC+ at Memphis) is in no way a realistic Plan B.
And if you were a player of Arenado’s stature and track record, would you agree to be shipped to Springfield on a whim to “work things out,” whatever that means?
Send Arenado to AA? Practical? Do you understand that Arenado would have to agree to be sent to the minors (at any level, let alone AA)? Do you really think that’s going to happen? It’s strange, you had more patience for an unproven player like Burleson than you do for an 8x All-Star with an actual track record.

Well, at minimum it seems to be a “hot topic” for you: this is your sixth “trade Arenado” post since April. We get it.
Do you have a specific trade proposal to offer that would actually make sense in terms of value for both the Cardinals and Dodgers? We’re all ears.
Saggese has a 74 wRC+ at AAA so far this year. Definitely looks ready to step in as a MLB starter right away . . .
