Bling is always so negative and only looking at the downsides in things. The Sosa/Romero swap has easily been a win win for both teams. At the time of the trade, Sosa was playing very poorly, but he was out of options. We likely were going to waive him and someone could claim him, but we got a very good BP piece out of him.

Its nice to see the team performing a lot better in multiple areas. Not being able to watch them i can only go off of what i read here and other places. My gut tells me they are playing above their grade with some of these scores and situations and i still feel the team is what it was before the season. But you never know, baseball can be a funny game. A very weak division can make for exciting things to happen.

For all the whiners and complainers on here do realize only 9 teams (4 NL) have lost fewer games than the Cardinals?

As of this morning, the Cardinals sit 25-26, which is below .500.

There are currently 7 teams in the NL that are .500 or better and 7 more in the AL.

    Arguing “fewer losses” is disingenuous.

Glad you enjoyed last year’s last place finish, and the start of this season when the Cardinals were in last place for more than a month. A sub .500 record is truly something to crow about.

FWIW, only 5 teams in MLB have a worse run differential.

As of now its a couple week long hot streak in the midst of 1+ seasons of being terrible. The made over pitching staff and a couple new faces contributing to the lineup gives reason to hope the success will continue. (Plus the veteran leadership, of course) But we will have to wait to find out. Getting Contreras back, who was the leading bat, will help keep it going.

AdM, Burly couldn’t have been much over 22 when he tore up AAA pitching. The same age Walker is now. By the way, I am not kyfan1.

I did not speak against the trade. I agree he had been playing poorly and is another example of a player who plays better once he leaves. I think of myself as realistic rather than negative. But attempting to inject realism into it is usually a waste of time. The better approach might be to keep quiet and wait it out. I, for example, expressed the view that Mo had traded off Monty for a blown arm and the next Nick Dunn. That did not go over at all, but is now beginning to come into focus. I do not think of it as negative at all.

I don’t see any reason to be in a negative camp or positive camp. I try to stay in a realistic camp. The reality is as of this moment we are a sub .500 team but we have also been red hot the last two weeks. Overall it hasn’t been a good season yet but we are trending in the right direction. Both things can be true.

I have no hesitation of trashing our front office because for the most part they deserve it but I will also give them credit when they do something good. What Mo did well over the winter was bringing in the three veteran starters. They aren’t great pitchers but they do give us a chance to win which is more than we had last year. Last year we were routinley down 6-0 after three innings and the game was over. That is not the case this year and now that the bats are coming out of their slumber we are starting to look like an actual big league team. Pitching, defense, and timely hitting can carry you a long way.

Actually fewer losses is not disingenuous. Losses can’t be made up.

No one cares about run differential. It has zero affect on the standings

1 team in MLB has a winning record with a negative run differential.

    So it kind of matters?

Without question it can indicate a team’s strengths or weaknesses, but it obviously doesn’t at all play into the standings. The really useless number is the “X-W/L” which is supposed to be the expected record based on runs scored and runs allowed…Haha! Expected by who? It’s almost as silly as the fairy tale, make believe baserunner in extras…

What is disingenuous is acting like the Cardinals have a good record and people are just “whining and complaining” for no reason, rather than acknowledging that this is a sub .500 club.

On May 17th, just 10 days ago, the team’s record was 18-25 and they were in last place.

But tell us again how everyone is “whining and complaining” and this thread shouldn’t exist.

Overall i think its best to let things play out. Nobody on here is making decisions for the team and they dont really listen to what is said on here. People have every right to voice their thoughts so calling people whiners isnt really called for.

Basking in the warm light of Cranny’s approval….

Though to be fair, there’s some negativity brewing.. like what’s the plan for the 5th starter? Pallante? Really?

That Matz might go down to injury was known because of his history. That in house starter hopefuls like Liberatore and Pallante are inadequate was acknowledged by the FO when they went out and hired three guys to go with Mikolas and Matz. So this exact situation cannot be seen as unanticipated. The logical conclusion is that Mo and BDW believed the team could compete without a real fifth starter. How many wins does it take to snag a WC slot, after all. They probably counted on having Rom to backfill, the likely results not being a concern. Mo did acquire a couple of slow movers who were not going to snag a 40 man slot where they were. They snagged those slots here, and we may see one or the other at some point. McGreevy and Graceffo are as ready as they are going to get also.

The next 2 games against the Reds will tell me a lot. Goldy has produced all of our runs the last 2 days. Is our offense trending back down, or is it just a blip? I think we still haven’t found the optimal lineup.

I did like seeing the two .300 hitters in the 1 and 2 slots. Not that it helped.

We are 3-7 w/l vs the last 10 LH starters we have faced. If you can shut down our lefty bats, you can beat us. Our righties scare no-one.

Last season after a horrible start I think l heard there was a 14-6 run – then it all collapsed again. I don’t recall last year’s team recovering to within a game of .500 after the horrendous 10-24 start – so, we’ll see.

Yesterday’s game may have just been an outlier this time – I hope so at any rate.

Life is more fun when the Cardinals are good.

ZTR You nailed it-Life is more fun when the Cardinals are good. I’m not sure that’s really a very good statement about my own maturity level, but it’s probably a little late to change. It’s been like that since 1967 when I was a 10 year old in love with baseball. I lived in KC and the horrid A’s left town. They starated broadcasting the Cardinals and I have missed very little of it since that time. When I left MU I moved to StLouis so I could go to games. Anyway, the last couple of weeks were a nice reminder of the joy the game can bring. It makes me feel a little guilty of where my snark can take me when it’s not going well. Kind of like life, you must take the good with the bad. But also like life, what’s worked in the past may not work in the present, and change is needed. I believe that’s where we are now.

Whatever happened to the simple declarative sentence? I know I’m getting old, and I never was too strong on statistics and modern slang, but sometimes I read posts on this forum three and four times and still come away empty. I know this is a specialized site for the super clued in, but as an old editor friend of mine used to say: “Can you please translate this stuff into human.”

I think “fix the Cardinals” can mean fix for the future and it can mean fix for tomorrow or for next week.
