They are. What does having RBI in blowout games mean? Nothing that’s what. Padding stats

My mistake you guys know better. The .732 will translate into him hitting better than all of them.

Yes that career .732 OPS predicts that.

We have good starters we need an ace.

I doubt Bieber would be available as the Guardians believe they can contend. If they don’t he will be available at the trading deadline.

Sure separate private activity from work. But there is no such thing as private crime activity.

Pitching should have been the priority not catcher. There is no angst at least not from me. Their approach makes little sense to me but that’s usually the case.

No prospects give Verlander the money you gave Contreras two years. That’s going all in

Ok They have self imposed limited resources payroll wise

Because with limited resources they failed so far to address the pitching staff. Maybe they will I don’t know. But with limited resources you don’t splurge on a catcher do it from an ace. What I don’t get is why every Cardinals fan has to like this signing. I never wanted Contreras so to each his/her own.

He pitched one inning against the Cards in 2014. Must have made a great impression

An all in move would be an elite pitcher 87M for Verlander. Getting Rodon maybe. This leaves the pitching the same.

But he will spend a lot time as a DH. I don’t think this team most pressing need was an “elite” hitting catcher.

Sorry the same pitching staff from last year will yield the same results during the playoffs, like you said the pitching is mediocre.

It is not about risky moves, they all are. It is about understanding your needs and prioritizing them. The reason the lost to the Phillies had nothing to do with the catcher.

Why did it have to be Contreras or Murphy? A team with many other needs could have you a serviceable catcher. I agree with Bob on this one.

Can’t speak for Bob. But for me lower tier catcher would have been fine. Use the money somewhere else…like starting pitching.

Why Contreras? I said a lower tier catcher would have been fine. and yes pitching wins in the post season where we have failed miserably lately.

So give the lefties we have a chance but invest 87.5M on another righty? Why not spend less on catcher and more on pitching. Makes no sense to me. We needed a catcher but we need pitching more.

I will be in the minority and say I am not thrilled about this. Average defense at best. Another right hand hitter. The money could have been used somewhere else. If the Cubs thought he was worth it they would have kept him. Pitching needs attention and so does left handed power bat to balance the lineup. A serviceable lower tier catcher would have done. But whatever.
