This might be a career killer. Sad all around
At this point, it’s clearly more than isolated/periodic lapses in judgement. The man has a serious problem. It’s never too late to overcome, but at some point the resolve has to come from within. We all deal with something. I wish him the best.
Hard to see how he doesnt end up doing some jail time for a 3rd offense. Looks like he had his twitter account shut down as well.
At this moment in time, I’d say his career is a distant second priority in regards to order of importance. He’s been charged with Persistent Driving While Intoxicated which is a class E felony in the state of Mo. There’s a decent chance that he may very well be required to serve some jail time if convicted of that charge. Sad situation, but obviously could have been aggravated if he’d hurt someone. Best I can tell, he was stopped and arrested less than 2 miles from where we live. They play hardball with drunk drivers in this area, so I certainly hope he’s afforded the professional help that he obviously needs. I’ll miss him as a Redbird broadcaster, but he’s gonna have a difficult time getting a pass from the legal system.
He’s only 48 years old. Should the Cardinals bring the hammer down and fire him. Or do they take the compassionate route by letting him do his jail time, then support him with the treatment that he needs? There are lots of addicts and drug abusers in this world of ours. How should we deal with it. There are no throw-away people in life.

mudville…I’m in total agreement with your claim that “there are no throw-away people in life”, but I’ll always maintain that good people sometimes throw away their life. This looks to be a textbook case.
I’m all about chances but I can’t see how the Cardinals can keep him after standing by him after all this time.
I don’t think he does much jail time. Maybe a few weekends.
I feel bad for his family though. I don’t know that situation or his kids but man I feel a bit for them.
An acquaintance who passed away a few years ago did not own or drive a car for the last 30 years of his life. He endured daily inconvenience because of that. His license had not been revoked. He had not been ordered by a court to not own a car. His stated position was that he couldn’t help being addicted to alcohol but he was not addicted to driving and he couldn’t justify taking the chance of killing someone just because he did not want to inconvenience himself. He was sick but honorable to the end. I wish Dan well, but my wife and kids and grandkids are out there and I wish them well even more.
If it does not affect his job performance I don’t think he should lose his livelihood or ‘be made an example of’ because of public opinion.
He needs help for sure and the third time will and should get the help forced on you.
Now, if he’d taken someone out then that is vehicular homicide, etc. and that would be a different story but that’s not the case.
I’m sure the punishment will be severe – and it should be – but this ‘cancel culture’ mentality that has infested the world is a cancer and somehow needs to be cut out. A good start would be to hold those throwing the stones to the exact same standard / punishment they so loudly demand for anything they’ve ever done or said at any time during their adult life.

Twice, anybody can make a second mistake and/or backslide.
Three times, the man needs some serious correction. Should he lose his job? I don’t know. But it’s clear he is incapable of controlling himself and someone else has to do it for him before he really does kill or injure somebody.
This is sad indeed for Danny and his family but the reality is that the Cardinals and Fox/Bally Midwest have already been rather gracious with him. I am not sure they will for a third time. Most places of employment would not be so patient.
He clearly needs help and I hope he gets he so he can salvage his career and life.
I don’t see how his employment should be involved as long he gets there on a bus or Uber. Assuming he’s not locked up, I mean. The public needs to be protected but he does not need to be destroyed to accomplish that.
As long as it’s not Rick Horton I’m ok with whoever.

Man, this is a tough one and hits home. My son has had serious alcohol dependency and got his third DUI earlier this year. We did an intervention on him and basically dragged him home, and I took him down to a place that takes in men with addictions. He was there all summer and part of the Fall, and served some jail time as well. He now has to have a blower in his truck for three years, which is about $80 a month out of his pocket.
The good news is he is doing well. He was a “star student” at the rehab place, and is living with us right now, staying in our guest room, working 50 hours a week, and has not touched alcohol since May.
I am the first to say I enjoy a beer or two now and then. But to be irresponsible is just plain sad. I wish Danny Mac the best, and hope he can conquer the demon. If he can do it and wants his job back, assuming he is put on leave, I welcome him back. But most of all, I hope he gets the help he needs and pray he has the strength and discipline to overcome.
Oliver – i didn’t say don’t punish him. He should lose his drivers license.
I’m just saying he should not lose his job as long as his drinking hasn’t affected his work.

He 100% should see prison time at this point. I know in Indiana the 1st offense is usually fines, maybe a 180 day suspended sentence, and a 90 suspended license or 1 year conditional license. 2nd offense is often fines, rehabilitation classes, 1 year probation with regular alcohol testing (as in a breath test carried with you at all times. Looks like a cell phone and when it signals you have a time you have to test and it takes a picture of you when you’re doing it to send to probation so they see its acually you taking the test. Usually 4-6 times a day), suspended license and violation of the probation would be spending the remainder of the time in jail. 3rd offense is when it gets much more serious. 3rd offense is basically guaranteed to be a felony (2nd can be) carrying prison time, it’s going to be a habitual traffic violation at this point which can be a lifetime license suspension, minimum 10 years.
Basically I think it’s real hard for the Cardinals to keep him around and if he avoids prison time he paid a good lawyer and got lucky.This is a very sad story. If only he had the wisdom to make a call for a ride home. I always wondered if a policeman parked his car in a tavern parking lot and followed patrons who pull out for home, a lot of them would be DWIed. Just saying.
This is no excuse for Danny but DUIs are mostly random incidents… and many involve accidents and tragically deaths, in which case its a complete hell for the culprit.
There are well divided opinions on this subject and I can see where both are coming from. Me? I hope that Mac gets help and recovers as Bike’s son did.

BikeMike, I join others in hoping your son takes full advantage of the support network available to him and can stick with it. I know it isn’t easy, but as we’ve seen, the downside can be horrendous.
I see too many people dead or seriously injured cause someone chose to drive drunk. Sorry he should lose his job. Once I see, I did it once. Got lucky made it home, decided that was it. I don’t hardly drink anymore and if I do, it’s not more than a drink and Im the passenger. If the Cardinals turn an eye to it and keep him and he does it again and someone dies, then they should be held responsible.
I like Danny but i think they have to let him go. The announcer is sot of the face of the franchise, I said sort of and he can’t be doing what Danny does.
