ParticipantIt is not throwing “boatloads” of money that’s driving the prices up. The owners are making “boatloads” of revenue. In 2012 despite record revenues that % going to players decreased and has since then except 2015. For 2018 record revenues translated into the largest drop for players since 2012. I am not defending the “greedy” players nor do I think long-term contracts are smart but blaming the player’s salaries only is a bit disingenuous. Maybe shorter but higher annual value contracts may help.

ParticipantThe Spanish comment is right on point.

Participant“never particularly eager” if you’re not eager to do something most likely you won’t try hard
How do we know the offers were underwhelming???
NJ315
ParticipantApparently they were not inclined to trade him at all. The hardly tried. Keep trying no need to keep him.
NJ315
ParticipantUgh.
NJ315
ParticipantHe loves Philly and Philly loves him. They will pay him.
NJ315
ParticipantMunoz or Gyorko at ss….ugh. Hopefully DeJong won’t require too many days off.
NJ315
ParticipantWho is backing up DeJong?

ParticipantYadi’s ego is quite big. I have been a big fan of Yadi but something changed and now I am still a fan because he is a Cardinal. I will always appreciate what he has meant to the team but no longer a favorite of mine.
NJ315
ParticipantNo need to worry. The Cards would never sign a free agent to a long contract. Harper is a moot point. I already said many times why I prefer to sign Harper but I am a minority of one. They rather pay Goldy 5/150 at age 32. That’s their way. I am not going to stop being a fan of course not. But I am disappointed at the way they are going about constructing the team. I would love for it to work but I am skeptical of this approach. But nothing would make me happier than to be wrong and having Goldy thrive as the long term answer.

ParticipantWell I am not upset either but I can tell you this. In Puerto Rico Molina is a bit different than when he is the US. He has a huge ego and can be abrasive at times. His whole family especially his mother cater to him and shield him from criticism. In their eyes he can do no wrong. When Yadi signed his 5-75 deal his mother went off saying how terrible it was he had signed such a low contract just because he loved St. Louis. She keep harping that it was a mistake. He has changed since then and not for the better.
NJ315
ParticipantWell it is easy for me to translate since I am Puerto Rican. I just didn’t care about his attitude about his knee surgery. It is difficult to translate basically he said he has been doing things (little things) that he wasn’t supposed to do during his recovery.
NJ315
ParticipantHe had knee (left) surgery 10 days ago. He has been mostly good about following the instructions after surgery but totally good. He was sporting a knee brace during the interview. He expects to be ready for Spring training. He says he is not sure he will retire after 2020 but will only play for the Cards if they want him back. He is thinking moving back to Puerto Rico when he retires. and as Brian he announced Pena is back. All I can say is ugh.
NJ315
ParticipantThat’s very sad. RIP young man.
NJ315
ParticipantOf course it was the better fit. You see it your way and we disagree. But do me a favor stop being so condescending with your answers. It is a matter of opinion and mine is a valid as yours. You can gloat all your want during the season about Mr. Perfect and how we dodged a bullet with Mr. Overvalue until then stop talking down to us that wanted Harper instead like we need to be shown by experts like you the error of our ways.
NJ315
ParticipantYou can’t overvalue Goldy, he is the best thing since sliced bread. I think Harper would have been a better fit for the Cards even at his inflated value. But is a moot point and forward we go with the perfect guy, class act, perennial MVP candidate, and who will age perfectly fine losing little to no abilities. Yes if you sense sarcasm and disappointment you read right. I am happy Goldy is here but it is really getting tiresome to hear over and over how perfect he is.
NJ315
ParticipantI was kind of joking. As far as where he ends it will depend on how important is the money for him. If it comes down to only money then Yankees will be. Cards or Astros will depend on how their seasons go.
NJ315
ParticipantHe seems to love Arizona. Maybe a reunion for them in 2020?
NJ315
ParticipantThis deal has the Holland smell to it. Hope I am wrong. Welcome Mr. Miller!

ParticipantI did not like the Fowler signing. But why not give him the benefit of the doubt on this? We will soon know by his performance whether he can go back to form or not. I am rooting for the man even if I rather not have him on the team. A productive Fowler is a win for the team.

ParticipantJust out of curiosity…why such a big difference in the Brantley vs McCutchens contracts? I think at this point in their careers Brantley would be the better investment.

ParticipantI am rooting for Fowler’s success. Once depression takes a hold of you it is difficult journey back. And no it doesn’t have to be “clinical” depression to be as debilitating. I know. The journey back is hard. Goodluck dude go get them!

ParticipantThis year will tell us a lot about the FO going forward.

ParticipantHolland, Gregerson???

ParticipantDepression can be a debilitating disease. I can see how his play would be affected by it and looking back he seemed to want to be anywhere but on a baseball field. I did not like the signing at all but I agree he needs to be given an opportunity to see what he can do.
