I can see more interest in Goldy than Hosmer and a team in the Yankees that have may offer him that. They gave Giambi 7 at age 31 so it wouldn’t be a stretch and they need a 1B really bad. If Goldy has a great season I think he may get 7 or 8. Or 7 and an option. I am equally surprised that based on past results you don’t see Goldy as the better more deserving player than Hosmer.
If Hosmer got 8 yrs I see no reason why Goldy won’t. I can see the Yankees giving him 8 since he could be their DH as he gets older.
Well like before it is a moot point Goldy it is. I still think it is wrong to sing him long-term but it seems that’s the way is going. I rather go after Arenado than sign Goldy. This is not about Harper as much as it is about Goldy.
Goldy’s WAR is trending down since 8.7 back in 2015. I know Goldy is a better player than Harper no doubt. If not Harper fine then try for Arenado. This is not about all in for Harper or overpaying for him. I don’t want bash Goldy I am very happy he is a cardinal. I just don’t 6 years of him after this season. That’s a matter of preference.
Nothing to talk about until they do something so why not talk about Fowler and his ability to get managers fired and Harper and his overrated status. It is just passing the time.
No. I was told the facts were the Goldy’s production was better than Harper’s so far. That is a fact but when I brought the point that Harper is only 26 and yet to play his prime and was told that was irrelevant. I was not “freaking” out at anything. I simply pointed that if I was going to invest a lot of money I rather buy the player’s prime year. But is a moot point isn’t. We have Goldy and he is a lock to be re-signed.
I agree also Jager. But apparently his age is not a factor to be considered when assessing his value. I have been told this several times.
I never thought he was “transformative” but many especially the youngers fan do see him as that. I hope you are right and I am wrong. There are times when being wrong can be rewarding. Moving on.
I am not upset. I don’t understand you why fail to take into account the age factor. I agree there is no way of telling what Harper will accomplish age 26-35 (10 yr contract) but before you declare Goldy the winner can he play 26-31 as Goldy already has? So making an assumption that Goldy will keep this up for another 6 years at an older age and still be more productive than Harper is ok. So how much is Goldy going to cost for 5-6 years? I do not get how comparing two players at very different stages of their careers ia accurate data. It may be the way you are coming across Brian.
Goldy was better. Just happens Harper is about to enter those years. But of course we all know for a fact Harper for a the next 6 years will not come close to Goldy age 25-30 or even Goldy 31-35. So I see your point. Not sure the need to keep selling Goldy over Harper is a done deal. We got Goldy and we move on. I for one I am done with this. You got your wish and the better player. It is all good.
Yes I would have passed on Holliday and Fowler. I really must be missing something on why me not wanting to extend Goldy is so perplexing to others. I don’t get why this is such a point of contention. We disagree but I don’t question your reasoning but you do mine. It is my opinion I am not sure it has to make sense to you or anyone else.
I could also live with Goldy for 3 yrs so I fail to see the computation problem. 3 yrs at any point after 30 should be enough.
I agree he may only be able to get as many as 6. After that it becomes a bidding war for how much money. It will depend how many other teams will like to bid and I think probably the Yankees will be interested. But if they sign him then you will be very happy and will be very disappointed.
I am not ok with it I said I can live with it. The reason being that at least we got Molina’s prime so maybe there was a little extra for prior services rendered. Goldy will be looking for payment for all the years he was severely underpaid why would we be pay for those?
Based on what you think 5 or 6 will get it done? Is this a hunch or is it wishful thinking? I think he will looking to maximize what is most likely his last contract with the added caveat that he already gave a discount in his prior contract. What is your thinking behind the 5 or 6 years? More money and less years?
Well Goldy will be 32-34. Harper could have 10 years and be 26-35. Goldy 5 yrs 32-36 I doubt he takes 5.
I see your point but my preference is still that they let him walk. But 3 yrs is as much as I could stomach.
I don’t know what will be really important to Goldy. But that’s a important factor that we won’t know until the negotiations begin. He was severely underpaid during his prime will that dictate his expectations of getting the big contract now that he deserved in his prime?
Yes 3/90 would be my top if I had to make an offer. I see 2019 for what it is a chance to see a great player on this team. We haven’t had that since Pujols left. I was happy that we dodged the bullet with Pujols. Not a fan of Yadi’s extension but 3 yrs I can live with.
Really assumptions??? It will be his last contract would he take 3 yrs? of course not. Would he take 5 yrs maybe but that is too long for a 32 yr old in my opinion. He already gave a huge discount so the money has to be significant that’s not an assumption. Taking a long contract for Goldy would not be a smart move. You want to be long contracts give them to players entering their prime. This is not about Harper or bust. This is about trading for a player who has been great during his prime and then assuming that he is going to age well he is Bagwell not Pujols or Cano. I rather have Machado than Goldy or Arenado next year. This is my opinion based on the history on long term contracts for player on the wrong side of 30 not assumptions. Invest in good players that are young and good. But you are right maybe he will take 3 yrs at 30M but I would not bet on it. As for this constant attack about Harper or bust I never said anything about that and really sick and tired of hearing this. I am very excited for 2019 and having Goldy in the team it should be a fun season. My dislike is only for signing Goldy long term that’s it and that’s a next year issue.
