If you look at the Doppler radar it shows nothing but green stuff heading directly to the Cincinnati area. I’d say its a safe bet this one is postponed. Surely the field at GABP must be soaked by now. Joe Maddon was bemoaning the fact yesterday after the game that both the Braves and Cubs had to play in terrible conditions.

Cautiously optimistic that pitching and offense are improving, but rest of the month vs. Cubs, Mets, Pirates will give better trend information. Nonetheless, it’s pretty clear who’s carrying this team offensively right now:

    BA OPS
    Molina .268 .829
    Pham .327 .930
    J-Mart .373 1.067
    DeJong .246 .769
    Ozuna .288 .703

    Fowler .196 .621
    Carpenter .174 .703
    Wong .162 .441

I do hope they play today to keep the momentum going.

It looks like this system could be out of cincy within a few hrs if they really want to get this one in, I would just have to assume the field conditions are terrible…

Maddon whining about the poor conditions yesterday makes no sense. The home team (in this case, the Cubs) makes the call on whether or not the game is going to be played. The umps don’t take over until lineup cards are exchanged. So why did they play, then, Joe?

I am not there today, but with modern fields, they can be playable even after a lot of rain. Between the infield being covered and good drainage systems in the outfield, they can have a good head start on decent conditions.

In Cincy, the gates are open, but the game start has been delayed. No new time for first pitch yet.

A reason to not play is to have Carlos Martinez in Chicago tomorrow. Here are reasons to play.

Any word from Riverfront on a possible start time? I keep having to run upstairs from my pool table to check and see if the game has started.

A two run homer by Bader in the 2nd has the Cards on top 2-0 early.

Martinez pitch count is high but he has made the pitch to get out of trouble. 2-0 after four.

He made it through 5 with 83 pitches. That’s not too bad. He should get to 7 and still be below 120.

10 Ks for Martinez through six scoreless innings. I wondered with the weather and opponent if he would be at his best today. I shouldn’t have wondered.

Routine plays that are botched tend to bite you in the backside. Wong HAS to make that play
