Gurevitch had nearly as many K at Palm Beach (33) as he had at San Diego (43) in his junior year.

He had nearly 3X as many plate appearances in college.

He was drafted for his “plate recognition.”

Nice post, LACardFan! Jack Henry Gurevitch. Jack “Flash” has a lot of Don Mincher in him…….which we Cardinal fans will welcome with open arms. I have him at #30, though I believe I may have initially graded him a bit harshly. I’ll tab him next round.

    #27. Jack Gurevitch
    #28. Cade Crossland

There is quite a decent gap here in my personal rankings as I have Gurevitch #19 and Crossland #25. The quality is really dropping off at this point. Crossland and Dutkanych are the last 2 pitchers I have with starting player upside although both have a lot of risk. Crossland’s college results weren’t amazing, but he has a fantastic changeup which should help him fare very well against righties even and his fastball is nice too. I think he has a starting pitchers arsenal and just need to see him develop command. I could see him jumping to the #10-ish range next year.

    #27 Leonel Sequera
    #28 Sebastian Dos Santos

As Chitown articulated earlier, Dos Santos dominated the DSL at 17 while playing shortstop, stealing some bases, and walking more than whiffing. That’s a nifty skillset.

The tipping point for me was when I dug a bit deeper and found that SDS only struck out once in his last 50 trips to the plate. Hitting for average + hitting for power + not fanning = mastery. And when a farmhand can completely master a level of competition that he’s young for, that’s a big marker for future success.

I really am intrigued by Ethan Young here. What is his health status?
Bob convinced me not to miss the next Pablo Ozuna train. I think that last season against your peers is truly telling of what will hapoen seven years later…the next time that player plays against anything close to his aged peers.

I so wanted to tab the big 1st baseman (Guteverich) out of the U of San Diego here, but with both Sequera and Molina still in play, how could I justify a switch?

Random, and know he was selected on this list already and I fully support that. The question, does Deniel Ortiz have a long shot or no chance of being a 3B or COFer? Seems to have the speed….

Looks like only 3 stragglers out there, which really isn’t too shabby at this juncture of the voting. If this were the good ol’ days in Chicago, CardsFanInChiTown just might try to vote twice……but with the way stlcard25 and NyQuist keep an eye on things, they’d nab him in a New York minute. .

    #29 Leonel Sequera
    #30 Sebastian Dos Santos

Among teenage starting pitchers in full season baseball, Sequera was 3rd in innings (108) and posted a solid 3.45 FIP. His heater is mid-90’s, he’s been healthy for two years, and there are no red flags in terms of walks, homers, etc.

Dos Santos was the sole 17-year-old in the Dominican Summer League to register an OPS+ of 151 or better while walking more than whiffing and tallying a Speed Score of 7.7 or higher. It doesn’t make him the best prospect in the 50-team league or anything — but it does make him a prospect.

Sticking with Young and the only other pitcher left with #3 or better upside in Dutkanych. Will either get there? Probably not. But hope and a chance feels better at this juncture than relief only or back of the rotation only.

I see Mason Molina getting some votes here. Maybe I need to re-evaluate him. I admit I saw very little of him and ranked him only at 44. But I think I may have undervalued him.
