29-Dos Santos – shocker from me huh
30-Cho – Refusing to vote for guys who won’t end up in the 8th or 9th inning at least. Such as Molina

Santos had a great year and this could be an over rank. I don’t know what the glove looks like, but it seems like he has some potential with the bat and I have put a 50 upside with Extreme risk on him. Betting on the upside and selecting him over more sure fire role player guys.

IMO, Miguel Hernandez put up better numbers than Dos Santos. But both give us fans hope.

I also like Love, Watson, and Raquet. I will pick them soon. Another sleeper that should be in the top 50 is Josh Kross. He had a low average, but 81 rbis.

I am not sure what else Winquest is supposed to be doing to be considered a top 30 prospect. Three full years as a pro. Answered the bell all year all three seasons. Advanced steadily. Held down rotation slot with good steady results. The Cardinals need starters with the physical resilience to do the job advancing up through the system, which what they have with him.

Bling – The issues on Winquest are mostly around control. He has trouble throwing strikes – especially when he needs to. His results with ERA have also consistently been rough. And in particular for me, I don’t think he’s progressing in a lot of positive ways. That’s a big thing for me – is a guy able to adapt? I have him at 37 on my list still behind some who are being mentioned and some who haven’t yet been mentioned like Payton Graham, Max Rajcic, and Brian Holiday. But I may be the low person on Winquest just like I always was with Edwin Nunez and still am for Hence.

For me, relief pitchers are more important than ever and it seems like it’s going further that way so I’ve been voting that way as well.

Helsley, for instance, had more of an impact than his starter contemporaries, Alex Reyes and Dakota Hudson.

Pads i think you are on to something. The org seems to have more interest in relievers. Draft, AFL.

I have Winquest coming up if I can ever vote for someone new. I had him ahead of Hansen, but he hasn’t really wowed with the results and he’s getting kinda old.

If you are looking at rate stats, you first have to define whether you are looking at a paper prospect or a real prospect. You need counting stats for that. Winquest had 99 Ks this year, a very respectable number for a season split between A+ and AA. So you are looking at a real prospect, and then compare rate stats with other real prospects. Hence, for example, had 24 Ks. That and his history says he is a paper prospect. Compare his rate stats with other paper prospects. Or better yet, don’t waste your time on paper prospects, focus on real ones.

At this point in the proceedings, there’s only about a 40% chance that a guy even makes the big leagues and a 1-in-10 chance that he takes a regular roster spot (based on the last 10 years or so of rankings). So in that sense, they’re almost all paper prospects. Does Hence or Winquest have a better shot to help the Cardinals win games in the future? I would argue that whether on the field or via trade, it’s easily Hence, but neither has a lot of expected value. We will see.

To me, when you get into the 20th or so best prospect is the time to consider relief pitchers. Unless they look else then earlier.

Just because a guy is ranked later than 20 doesn’t mean he remains there. Typically players start at the back and move forward. The chances of a player making an MLB debut is based upon that players highest ranking.
Josh Baez’s chances of playing in the bigs is based on his current ranking rather than when he nearly fell out of the top fifty.
All the picks matter at this point and moving forward except for those players who have maxed out. Players without potential for growth are rarely discussed here.

Yeah, Mason Molina only had 119 K’s this year between two different levels.

Going back to the RP discussion, I agree to some extent, and they should be giving “future relievers” shots at starting for the innings.

-Looked up Winquest, very nice AA numbers and I didn’t realize that.
-Looked into Molina a bit more, low 90’s FB but high grades for his slider and change. Great #2 LHR
-Not a single DSL pitcher is worth a vote, sadly, hoping that trend gets better with the new regime.

Explication of Hernandez over Dos Santos?

The latter was better in every category…. OPS, decent SLG (2Bs helped) and K/BB are the most important at that level to me at least and Dos Santos won by a large margin.

Was it the signing bonus? That means nothing after you get your cleats dirty. See: Pujols, Albert – 13th round pick

An hour 1/2 left for this pairing. I see a couple of regs left to chime in. Come on guys we could use your help.

    My #29 Honeyman

    #30 Winquest

Can anyone tell me why Honeyman is not getting any love here.

Honeyman came out on X and admitted his skeletal structure is formed from balsa wood. It had already been revealed the majority of his muscle mass was transplanted from an 83 year old Norwegian woman.
It was rumored he fractured his wrist signing his first pro contract , but it turned out to simply be deep tissue and ligament damage.
The team has proactively hired and assigned spotters to follow him to limit fall risks. He continues to be the only farm hand to wear a first alert necklace as bling.
