I don’t get the consternation over Franklin. Baseball America put him 6th.

but an awful draft pick at that spot and he gets zero credit after beyond horrible college numbers… Franklin is behind a few posters on here as of now. Hope I’m proven wrong though.

Not everyone agrees, obviously. College duds turn into MLB players all the time. We’ve drafted two “NCAA pitcher of the year” winners in recent memory (Hjerpe and Steven Gingery) and so far have nothing for it. So, college results aren’t the be all and end all.

Of note, Bryan Woo had a 6+ ERA over his three seasons of college ball. Garrett Crochet, 5.51 and 4.02 ERAs at Tennessee and then pitched all of 3 innings his final year before being drafted (in the first round!). Tarik Skubal, a 4+ ERA in the WAC after missing the whole 2017 season before being drafted. A whole litany of HS guys struggle in the low minors before going on to good MLB careers.

Progression isn’t always linear. The Cards obviously saw something in Franklin and the rest of the industry is (at least partially) agreeing. We will see.

I’m not putting him on my list just yet due to age and level, but Sebastian Dos Santos is definitely my first DSL guy I’m voting for. He’s ahead of Padilla and Franklin for me. Results matter folks….

    Tell that to Curtis Taylor.

I’m surprised the cheap FO wouldn’t have tried Taylor out. If you can add Mottar and set the DFA record 3 times in a season. The FO has their favorites too.

Now that you’ve mentioned Sebastian Dos Santos, ChiTown, I think one matter bears clarifying. Dos Santos when signed was listed at 6’0″ and 173 lbs. TCN Link: https://thecardinalnation.com/cardinals-announce-12-international-signings-to-open-2025-period/

But now all sources seem to list him at 140. I strongly suspect the 140 was from a year or two before he signed, and that he’s really around that 173 number. The 173 just makes so much more sense, especially because kids who weigh 140 pounds don’t whack 21 extra base hits in 38 games at any level above Pony League.

Also, most boys are still growing at 16 years of age. Dos Santos may very well hit 180-200 lbs by the time he matures as a young adult. What happens after the ‘young adult’ stage is anybody’s guess.

I suggested that they give Curtis Taylor a chance a couple of weeks ago. I was disappointed that they chose not to. All you can do when something like this happens is trust the coaches and talent evaluators

I with you guys on Curtis Taylor, couldn’t have been worse than Pallante or Mikolas…. And possibly couldn’t have been a bad idea to give him an “mlb tryout”.

Regarding Dos Santos, he’s definitely filled out based on a video from late in the season. Tried, but can’t find it, I’d throw out a 6’ and 175 guess….

    23. Won-Bin Cho (my #16)…sort of incredulous that no one else has voted for him yet. He’s held his own at two levels and probably will have a shot to take off at AA next year.

    24. Zach Levenson (my #21). Solid righty bat, not hugely exciting but he has the runway to make the big league club in a couple of years. He had a very nice finish to his 2025.

Davis is poised to have a big year in 2026. He will take a step up similar to what Baez did in 2025.

I am not sold on Granillo making a splash with the Cards, but he will ride the shuttle this year and provide some help in the pen.
