Yeah for Apple TV! One of the few games I will get to watch this season.

Also, FYI, Hulu Live now carries MLB Network.

Yeah, I absolutely hate splitting the games up among multiple pay channels.

I buy MLB Extra Innings to get ‘all the games’ but I don’t get ‘all the games’.

I refuse to pay another extra sub fee.

I will go old school and listen to KMOX like my dad and I did when I was a kid. It will be a cool, throwback. West coast games were great back in the day as with those starting later we could usually get good reception.

In fact for awhile there, maybe for a few years or so, I could dial in Dodger games as well – I think they were carried on KNX. A great memory I have is listening to a particular game we won, then switching over to KNX and catching Vin Scully’s post game show. He introduced the post game show this way: “Flip Wilson was in attendance tonight and he would say ‘What you see is what you get’. What the Dodgers saw was Bob Gibson, what they got was shutout.”

    Man, Scully was great!

This game won’t start until after 9 pm in StL. I’ll check the final and take a look at the box in the morning. Sweet dreams…

Yeah those late games were fun. In grade school I used to sneak a transistor radio into bed with me and listen quietly to Left Coast Redbird games — I was top guy in a bunk bed so it had to be reeeal quiet. Don’t think I ever made it to the end of a game, though. Love the Scully story, Mike.

7-1 yesterday wasn’t a competitive game. We got blown out early and laid down. I hope we can make it interesting tonight.

Nice walk down memory lane, Bobby & BicycleMike. Back in the day when we here in Wisconsin could only watch our Birds on the television when we played the cubbies(WGN channel 9), or for a rare NBC game of the week appearance, KMOX was our only option for enjoying Cardinal baseball. And it was a quite frustrating option at that. I started listening to their games the summer just after concluding kindergarten. You had to wait until the sun went down and then it was an almost constant battle, consisting of contorting your radio and its antenna in a myriad of different positions to get the best reception. And when you did find that reception sweet spot, it would only last a few minutes and then you’d have to start the whole darn radio juggling act over again to locate the new sweet spot. But the later it got the less fiddling around you’d have to do. I loved extra inning and west coast games, as you could enjoy the action with little obstruction. But you know, in a peculiar sort of way, having to ardently toil for the right to listen to Cardinal baseball, probably enhanced the experience and your passion for the team……but I wouldn’t ever want to do it again.

Those games had a certain magic back in the day, as your imagination combined with the radio call would make it seem surreal at times.

Man, what a bad start to the 2024 season. We looked about as boring as I fear we may be this year. Not only were we out-homered 2-1 in the game, but former Cardinals out-homered current team members 2-1 as well. Ty O’Neill homers on opening day for the fifth consecutive time. And Adolis Garcia picks up where he left off helping to knock off our division rivals. But hey, the local nine here, who many predict to be the worst team in baseball this year, gave up 14 in one inning on the way to a 16-1 blowout. Makes our game look almost competitive.

It is not even April, and we are already in last place, a game behind.

Another trip down memory lane. Facing Bobby Miller tonight makes me think of plain old “Bob” Miller. A St. Louis kid, Bob Miller came up with us in the late ’50s/early ’60s. He then pitched for the legendarily bad 1962 Mets, going 1-12.

But he went “from outhouse to penthouse” as they say, moving to the Dodgers in ’63 and being part of their World Championship club. He pitched in World Series games for both the Dodgers and Pirates before concluding his career.

I am not endorsing this, but it could be an option for some…

I listen to KMOX even if the game is on TV using MLB Audio ($4 a month) for the same reason. I can hear the whole game in 45 minutes just by clicking the 15 second advance between pitches and commercials.

Except for Rooney our announcers make me ill so I hear far less of them. BTW you can call MLB and a LIVE chick will answer hook you up as long as a game is in progress when you call

I’m in line with some others in regards to the Cardinals looking remarkably dull and uncompetitive in the opener out west. I’m guessing we can take some solace in the realization that the team that made the Cardinals look like they didn’t belong on the same field is quite possibly the best in the Big Leagues. I expect the Dodgers to win over 100 games and be the elite team in the NL. In any event, thank goodness we play some other teams this season. Hopefully the Redbirds can compete with some of those teams to the extent that they can at least be somewhat competitive in the NLC, which was not even close to being the case last season.

I’m going to guess that Billy Jr. has to be a bit concerned about a possible reduction of gate receipts after the team’s dreadfully poor performance last season. Now, he’s got to worry about his business venture suffering from some genuine competition for the almighty sports dollar in the StL. area. He’d better hope his team is reasonably competitive because the mighty Battlehawks open their season tomorrow night and could really horn in on Billy Jr’s. slice of the pie…Haha!

Maybe Bill should look into buying naming rights for the dome.

I’m reasonably certain that his team of wily investors are looking into it and formulating a business approach designed to take control of those coveted naming rights that could best be termed as shrewd…

Baker and Gomez each have a homer today to start Memphis’ season. Plus, Pages gunned down 2 would be base stealers. Up 6-4 in the 8th right now. Beautiful day in Memphis.

Just think…If the Cardinals were to bounce back to defeat the omnipotent Dodgers in tonight’s game at Dodger Stadium all of our troubles will be over and for at least a day we’ll be talking about how good our favorite team looked while slaying the mighty Dodgers in front of their fans…Ain’t baseball great?

    Folks,
There is that chance that the Redbirds might start the season out 0-7.

If they start out 2-5 I will be satisfied.
