Its too bad suits can’t be traded at the deadline. With the draft being praised, Flores’s value is high and he may walk.

Cut off in the bottom of the post:
LHP Ixan Henderson (AAA) & RHP Joseph King (A+) had their rehab assignments transferred from the FCL to Palm Beach.

RHP Ian Bedell (AAA) has been given his unconditional release.

There was mention in this thread about calling up Baez in mid-August. But Baez has been struggling of late. OPS of .575 in July. Now, that’s better than Gorman (.573), Saggese (.446), and Scott (.524), but it suggests to me that me might still need to work on things a bit. His non-intentional walk rate is up this month. 8 BB to 54 AB (12.9%) in July, compared to 22 BB in 281 AB (7.3%) before that. I’ve not watched, but I wonder if they are trying to get him to be more selective.

I’m sure they are working hard on his astronomical chase rate, with high whiff rate on it, that won’t play at the MLB level.

I didn’t say they would call him up mid-August. I just mentioned that they probably would not call him up before then because of the potential Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI).

I mentioned the Mariners would likely trade one of their SP in another thread. I didn’t think Hancock would be the one they are looking at though. Maybe the Cards can send them another guy to get Hancock as he will have 4 years of control left

Pass. 27 year old former 1st rounder that has struggled and finally got things going. They don’t believe its real either and trying to get offense without having to give up Kirby, Gilbert, Woo, and especially Miller, and nobody is taking Castillo’s contract. They have 6 SP and 2 of the best SP prospects knocking.

    Hancock, 27 years old
    3.16 ERA, 3.72 FIP, 6.8 H/9, 1.1 HR/9, 2.2 BB/9, 8.3 K/9
.245 BABIP, 90 mph exit velo, 44% hard hit rate, 42% GB rate

    Pallante, 27 years old
    4.02 ERA, 3.97 FIP, 8.7 H/9, 0.9 HR/9, 2.6 BB/9, 6.4 K/9
.285 BABIP, 87 mph exit velo, 35% hard hit rate, 55% GB rate

Not trying to say Pallante is better, but its closer than you think. Mariners want offense for him and would probably take Herrera to get him.

Hancock WHIP 1.006 is vastly better than all of our starters. Get Herrera on a plane to Seattle.

key question. Who do we have outside of Winn, Weatherholt, Walker, and maybe Herrera would be considered valuable to a buying team.

If I was to trade Herrera, I’d prefer to get Sloan. We need an ace type young pitcher. Hancock improved this year, but I don’t think he is an ace type pitcher. If that is too high a price for Seattle , then we just keep,Herrera.

I don’t know if I would do Herrera for Hancock straight up. In fact I am pretty sure I wouldn’t.

But I would do Herrera, O’Brien, and Bernal for Cade Anderson.

Sooner, i don’t think any of those 4 will be traded this season. I see us trading players with limited control years. Now, if Seattle would include Anderson, or Sloan we might have a framework for a deal.

I would do that deal as well, but don’t think Seattle would want two catchers. Even though Cal Raleigh has fallen way off this year, he is only 29 and signed through 2030.

They would probably want a pitcher in return like Mathews – someone to at least partially fill Anderson’s future – rather than Bernal.

We better NOT trade anybody. And rely on free agency in the near future to get us over the top.

At a minimum, my guess would be May, Romero, and Nootbaar are getting traded. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were more.

I agree. Nootbaar, Romero, and May. The trouble is that none of of them are going to bring much back. It’s basically about clearing roster space.

Yeah, I think those three are the prime candidates. If it took adding O’Brien to the mix to bring a real good prospect I could see us doing that.

Romero is not traded (injury concerns). May could be traded, but I am not expecting much for him; might get a number 40th to 50th prospect from a team willing to buy the dip on him. Riley O’ Brien should definitely be moved if anyone is foolish to partake. I honestly think the man has the Ankiel “yips” and is cooked; the dude has no grit to be a closer. His stock has severely taken a hit and isnt worth much. Like May, you’d be lucky to get a number 40th prospect for him. Nootbaar is an overachieving 4th OF, his trade value is not great; again maybe a number 40th organizational prospect for him.

This wont be popular, but here goes: Herrera, Burleson, and Baez should all be made available for sale. Baez is screaming bust to me. The dude strikes out way too much. Someone will bite on that power and would net a nice return of prospects. Herrera has soured on me and I am done with him. His lack of humility in not wanting to be potential LF/DH tells me all i need to know about his character. He is not a team player and only wants to satisfy his selfish desires to be a catcher. The dude cant throw anyone out on the base paths and his offense has taken a proverbial dump since he has been behind the plate. Injuries aside, he is at peak value and should be offloaded.

Burleson is a good baseball player, but he needs to be traded to get more prospects. The drafting of Caden Ferraro in the 2026 MLB draft screams that Burleson’s job is in jeopardy as a 1B for the Cardinals. Team batting average will take a hit for sure and getting rid of Burly will hurt for sure. But he is a great asset for a contending team that needs a bat. This rebuild is going to take a long time and its looking like 2030 might not even be a playoff year for this club. Thanks Mozeliak. It sucked losing the series to his new team in Anahiem.

Mike, you are correct that Seattle wouldn’t want two catchers but I don’t view Herrera as a catcher. He is really a full time DH who can be an emergency catcher. If they want a RH bat he could fit the bill.

Romero doesn’t have injury concerns. He had an appendectomy. No team is going to be worried about that.

What the return is depends on the team and what their needs are. A team who badly needs a right handed pitcher may give you more than some other team for May.

Nootbaar is an on-base machine. He has always been one. Those guys are valuable. Will he get a top prospect? Not likely, but the return is not going to be nothing. Besides, the point is to trade those with less years of control and open up a spot for a younger player.

I don’t have a strong opinion about trading Burleson. I would not trade Herrera but I would move him off the catcher position.

I don’t think trading Baez is likely at this point. I do agree he has swing and miss and chase issues.

I would trade herrera in a hot minute if good prospects were involved. Burly no cause i think hes a better all around player and hes more of what the cardinal need.Noot i would def take offers. Baez im not sure about, just depends on what im getting. Hes injured a lot s o might be good to get put from under him.
