Very glad to see Lin going on rehab assignment. Hoping all goes well and he is fully healthy.

He will be doing it somewhere else, having been given away for nothing.

I’m not happy Loutos is gone either as he would not have been my choice. My main point was he is likely the one also stating to do all the things you didn’t like such as focus on velo and spin rates. He didn’t need the FO to tell him to focus on those things as he was doing it himself.
May 3, 2025 at 9:10 am #280968I don’t agree Albert. I think the Cardinals PD is obsessed with those things. There is a lot more to analytics than measuring velo and spin and urging guys to rev it up. IMO, his expertise and insights into the use of analytics was a source of friction. Think philosophical disagreement.

May 3, 2025 at 9:44 am #280970The Deep State is at it again.
Relievers are fungible. There are plenty to be had in the system.
Give me a good starter conspiracy and you have my attention :>)

Based off what evidence? I have just as much evidence the world is secretly run by an order of reptiles as these statements. Loutos wasn’t my choice to DFA, but he would have been the 4th behind Helman, Munoz, Roycroft. That is my opinion though as multiple others even here thought it would be Loutos, so it isn’t like the Cards came out of the blue to DFA him due to philosophical differences.
May 3, 2025 at 10:42 am #280990I just don’t trust our front office to make correct decisions. Loutos was not the one to DFA. Same as Arozarena and Garcia should not have been dealt. Especially Garcia. We traded him for cash. Mo, what were you thinking? He seems to have favorites. If he likes you, he’ll cut you 3 times and readd you. Being a lame duck makes things worse. I feel like they’re writing off 2025.
May 3, 2025 at 10:48 am #280992I can see an argument for Arozarena being a bad trade, but with Liberatore pitching well it looks better by the day to not be a complete loss of a trade.
If you want to blame Mo on Adolis Garcia, go ahead, but it doesn’t change the fact that even after he went to Texas, he was DFA’ed again by the Rangers in 2021 and all other 29 teams in baseball did not see enough in him to even warrant claiming him to put on the 40 man. Garcia just greatly exceeded what every team in baseball expected of him.
May 3, 2025 at 10:53 am #280993Adolis Garcia was seen as Quad A by every team in baseball. It’s hard to blame Mo when everyone else had the same opinion.
I really liked Arozarena but I understood why they did that one. And it still may work out fine.
The only truly terrible trade Mo has made is the trade for Marcell Ozuna. That’s actually a really good track record for a GM who has been doing it as long as Mo. Now, you can argue all day long that there are trades he should have tried to make (maybe he did, maybe he didn’t), but he’s actually been pretty good at making trades overall. I can list a whole bunch that worked out well if you want. You can also argue all day long that Mo has made a lot of bad FA signings. That is true. But on the trade front, he’s probably been one of the best.
May 3, 2025 at 11:39 am #280999The pitchers we traded seat for Ozuna was ridiculous. Wish we could have kept Gallen or Alcantara. But then we didn’t resign Ozuna compounding the loss. He has made a very good DH. I guess if Liberatore keeps pitching like he is, the Arozarena trade looks better. But there is no excuse for losing Garcia. He was not out of options, and our 40 man roster was not full of prospects needing protected. Idiotic move that was unnecessary.

It sounds like he will fit in nicely with the best front office in baseball (Dodgers).
May 3, 2025 at 1:34 pm #281010The #STLCards have recalled RHP Michael McGreevy and optioned RHP Roddery Munoz back to Triple-A Memphis.
McGreevy pitched well in Spring Training. Now word yet whether he will be used as a starter or a reliever.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 3, 2025
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said that RHP Michael McGreevy is in St. Louis for “protection,” meaning he can offer several innings if starters struggle today or tomorrow. Rain interrupting the next two games — and knocking out starters — is also a consideration.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 3, 2025
May 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm #281013I wonder if they may start McGreevy tomorrow with the double header. I’m hoping he is up for good with a spot in the rotation, but I am unsure how they would make room for him at the moment.

May 4, 2025 at 12:20 pm #281054Cardinals have already burned 3 options this year on Roddery Munoz. Svanson, O’Riley and Saggesse have been optioned twice.

May 5, 2025 at 2:10 pm #281196Hinted at this in the story, but you can expect this to be official later this afternoon:
The Cardinals are calling up Gordon Graceffo. He was excellent in his spot appearance on Wed: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, first career W. He'll pitch out of the bullpen. #STLCards https://t.co/Te7RK8QJES

May 5, 2025 at 2:29 pm #281199That is all well and good, but as BHC noted the other day, teams can only send players up and down five times in a season. We’re barely a month into the six-month schedule, so if they’re not careful, some pitchers may be immovable later in the summer.
As I see it, the real problem is lack of dependable relievers in the pen. Eight should be enough.
May 5, 2025 at 7:29 pm #281236What a shame McGreevy was sent down. Performed very well and we need to just find a rotation spot for him. Make an early trade to dump Fedde if you have to.
I also am concerned about the rate they are optioning players down at this point as they will run out of times by mid-year at this rate with some of these guys. Call up Svanson when he is eligible or add Granillo to the 40 man and call him up. Let one of them have a couple months in the bigs as they cannot be any worse than what has been trotted out there lately.

cardsfan64ParticipantAs @jmjones reports/now official on MLB's transactions page: #STLCards are optioning Luken Baker to Memphis. Points towards an Iván Herrera activation come Friday.
Not a bad idea to keep 3 catchers, esp with Herrera coming back from injury. Plus, Yohel Pozo has done a nice job.
