ParticipantA lot of those spots being opened up by releasing guys will be filled up by guys that will probably be released in a few years. I wonder where cal randall will go. They say hes ready right now for the bullpen but cardinals want him to be a starter. Hes prob in my eyes the best player they drafted at least at the moment. I also agree with trying to make him a starter.
July 16, 2026 at 5:41 pm #313286I hear Blewitt is opting out of his contract. I wonder who would replace him. With Burns out, there doesn’t see m much to choose from. Watson maybe, as he had very good numbers until this year.
July 16, 2026 at 8:14 pm #313290I hope promoting Davis will help him. I guess that would make an outfield of Baez, Scott, and Davis most days.

cardsfan64ParticipantRHP Joseph King (A+) has begun a rehab assignment with the FCL Cardinals.
RHP Gabriel Chinchilla has been transferred from the FCL to Palm Beach (A).
RHP Hunter Kublick (A) has been activated from the 7-day IL.
We have signed international free agent RHP Rayner Reyes…

July 17, 2026 at 2:22 pm #313338Hello Brian, I have been a member of TCN for several years now. Always enjoy hearing and learning about the prospects. One thing that I struggle to understand is the failure of a number of the prospects to take their triple A success and translate that into success at the major leagues. Most recent , Blaze Jordan, Jimmy Crooks. Just before them was Saggesse, Scott etc. I understand Jordan and Crooks need more runway. The percentage of prospects that are successful at the major league level even though they were successful at triple A is relatively low. What traits are good predictors of major league success? I would be interested in hearing you and Kyler discuss that in your weekly podcast. I am particularly interested because of all the talk about trading Nootbar to make room for Joshua Baez. I understand that if you don”t take the risk of promoting someone you don”t reap the reward but surely there are better predictors of success or this is all just a crapshoot.
July 17, 2026 at 3:48 pm #313343Hey menk – I will answer for me. But I do think this is a great topic for Brian and Kyle.
I look at consistency (positive consistent production) over months of time as number one and showing the ability to completely dominate at a level (even if only for a game or two here and there) as my 2nd of two key traits. I keep those two in mind and weigh them. For me, Wetherholt coming into the season was going to be successful. I said that multiple times here. He had met both criteria hands down. I was also fairly confident about Gastellum and Blaze Jordan although I could be wrong on either. I was less sure about Crooks as he didn’t fully meet either of my criteria but was somewhat close on both. And for guys like Torres, he’s never really met my 2nd condition where he completely dominates anything so I would have expected him to struggle. This is why I’m skeptical about Dobbins, Mautz, Rincon, and Hansen, but fairly high on Baez and Matthews. Just my opinion though.

July 17, 2026 at 6:14 pm #313354Cards get RHP Trey Pooser from Tampa Bay High-A as the player to be named in the Chris Roycroft trade.
(Correction to team made. I shouldn’t post from the car, even as a passenger!)

July 17, 2026 at 6:37 pm #313358Hey BW,
Wasn’t Roycroft traded to the Rays?

ParticipantChristian martin was just drafted a couple years ago. Tells you the fate of a lot of these draft picks. Seems kind of soon to give up on the dream but hopefully he will be fine.
July 17, 2026 at 6:50 pm #313360Martin was an 18th round pick. The odds were very long and realistically guys at that point are minor league depth
July 17, 2026 at 6:57 pm #313363RHR Alan Reyes off the FCL 60-day IL.
July 17, 2026 at 7:44 pm #313366I didn’t see any mention of it or a roster matrix move, but I did notice Joseph King must have started a rehab assignment in the FCL yesterday. It seems like the last 2 weeks so many of these pitchers out so far all of the year have started a rehab assignment.

ParticipantOh i agree albert, but lots of people say there isnt much difference between tbe players around 200 to 500 so ypu could say that for much earlier rounds too.
July 17, 2026 at 8:27 pm #313372Ha yeah you could. For sure after the top 10 rounds it is mostly minors depth with a random guy developing well every now and again
