Are you on very high ground, Keep?
July 9, 2024 at 8:31 am in reply to: StL 2024 Gm #93 thread – Tue, 7/9 vs. KC – ppd to Wed 7/10 G1 #259669Never heard of a tropical rainstorm in St. louis! What the hell??? But this forcast reminded me of the only flood I was ever caught in: it was in mid July 1970 at a summer camp on the banks of the Merrimac river.
I’ve experienced 2 monster hurricanes living in Biloxi, Camille and Katrina but they were not nearly as scary as that flood. The river rose a good 15 feet and was roaring by with the most terrifying splashing rumble you can imagine, moving about 25 MPH carrying cars!
Wondering if it will be worse than 1970. Does anyone here live near that river?
OMG Marte scares me
I hesitate to think Carp made a good base running play!
He prolly didn’t know WHERE the ball was

Of course BRUMMER STEALS HOME!!!
Was it McGee or Ozzie?
I wonder if McCarver was still the last Card to steal home
“You crack me up sometimes, Sgt. Carter”
you can call me Vince 😉
” Sir Lance-A-Lot perfectly perfect through 2 frames”
Beware of the guy who takes the mound in the 3rd: Lance-a-little 🙁
“The 191 RBI’s is a bit tainted by the fact that he led the league in K’s with 84″
Well come on; did you see that skinny-ass bat he was using? Looked like a stick, not to mention the man couldn’t even spell BUNT or try to go with a pitch to LF. Dead pull, 5’6” 205 lb freak ‘O nature!
He musta had some great OB% guys in front of him, like Boyer in ’64 who had Flood, Groat and Brock with about 600 hits between ’em and a combined .300 BA!
Kenny was my man but how many RBI would Mays, Aaron or Frank had if they had those three? More than 124 I’m thinking
LOL I heard that story Dom. There is only ONE Book written about Hack that still survives, and I sure wanna read it some day
“Carlson
Carpenter
Crawford
SianiQuite a bottom of the lineup”
Are you being facetiousiacal?
Let’s not forget this between war monster, Bike

I tell you Dom: I don’t think ANY of those 30 game winners are legit. Dizzy for example was credited with 7 wins in relief even if there were 3 or 4 pitchers used. Back then the official scorer could have been his mailman or wife!
Denny McClain is the only guy in my book who started and won 31
But we got Contrearas back who was hitting better than both of them, Rat! Final score tonite is 5-4 Braves
Dom and Bike: Forget about pitchers. I’m thinking of sluggers with high BA’s
EDDIE MATHEWS! I was thinking of Johnny Calison, Cepeda and Stargel but Eddie is better
BTW Spahn was great but Lefty Grove would be my pick 😉
EDIT: OMG Ernie Banks!
June 24, 2024 at 12:02 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #79 thread – Monday, June 24 vs. Braves #257593Cant Keep: “We get Contreras and O’Noot back, they hit the ground running, and we could be leading the division by July 31”
That’s my thinking too
OK, I got one for you guys: After the Musial, Williams and DiMaggio era there was the Mays, Mantle, Aaron and F. Robinson era, a true Mt. Rushmore.
My question is: who would be the 4th head on the Musial era? I come up blank on that one.
Last question: who should be the honorable mention of the latter…Yaz, Clemente or somebody I cant think of?
Promised self I would not watch another game ’till Carpenter was shipped back out or we made it to .500
I have mixed emptions

Long night ‘o ball ahead 🙂
Have to see to it that this lead-off double crosses HP.
Done, Dom 🙂Pugsley, this happens often with me: you mentioned Kenny Holtzman and I immediately saw him in my minds eye with a Cubs cap…a memory of my Tops baseball card.
Any old player mentioned (not a Cardinal whose face I know well) I will connect his name with the cap he was wearing on the card
Except for Bo Belinsky who wanted his curly locks visible
The photo of Andy Echevaria still haunts my nightmares BTW

Oh I see your point but maybe his skipper just wants to see at least one AB where the the mighty turtle can’t GIDP!
