Winn can flat out hit! Ringing double to left to lead off the 2nd.

    Then Walker whiffs.

Scott flies out to center…..with no advancement.

Donovan flies out to Brown in left.

Maybe Walker should have bunted . . .

Scott just keeps striking out or flying out.

And Walker keeps striking out or grounding out.

Walker is totally over matched almost every at bat! Memphis is calling!

I always like to see some sort of attempt to move the runners up, but since the advent of the DH in the NL, I’m not crazy about a sac bunt before the 5th or 6th inning. But hey, it worked…Haha!

Yeah for me, Walker has been the biggest disappointment thus far here in the very early stages of 2024.

Sonny Gray…..what I wouldn’t give for two more Sonny Grays……I’ll take 3 Sonny Grays, 2 Masyn Winns, 2 Tommy Edmans…..2 Nolan Arenados, 1 young Goldy, 1 Nooty, 1 Herrera and 1 TLR to go please.

I’d never seen Gray work before he became a Cardinal, but I’ve been impressed by his bearing on the mound in his first two turns as a Redbird. He seems to not only have both an air of confidence and a manner of poise, but also looks like he works with a well defined plan designed to record outs. In other words, he looks like a pitcher to me.

Oli penciled in Donovan, Noot and Gorman at 1, 3 and 6. Close enough to my 1, 3 and 7.

    1-0 lead, well done guys!

Cy Stripling is starting to settle in nicely here…..nicely if your an A’s fan…..but with 2 out and nobody on, Arenado doubles to left…..our 3rd double already. And Contreras nearly had another, but just shanked it wide left. Then Contreras hits it in the air right back into Stripling’s waiting mitt to retire the side.

    Nice Gray observation, TD!

Walker caught both the ball and his wayward cap to retire the side. Gray is under complete and utter control in a 1-0 Cardinal ballgame heading to the 4th.

Gee we can’t hit a lick….or a baseball for that matter. Kind of a crying shame having good hitters that can’t hit.

A lot of things have been scant on offense, but the 2 out RBI has been practically nonexistent so far this season.

Went right after him on that 3-2 pitch. He hasn’t walked anyone yet this season.

Not entirely sure what happened on the bouncer to Gorman, but Gray escapes still holding on to the 1-0 lead.

Way to work around some weak but well-placed contact that inning.

I can only speak for myself, but I was hoping Scott was taking on that 2-0 pitch.

If he gets out in his next trip to the plate, Victor Scott will fall under .300 OPS. He’s getting close to Lance Lynn’s career OPS numbers.

Haha…A guy the size of LL’s always dangerous with a bat!

Pugsley, this happens often with me: you mentioned Kenny Holtzman and I immediately saw him in my minds eye with a Cubs cap…a memory of my Tops baseball card.

Any old player mentioned (not a Cardinal whose face I know well) I will connect his name with the cap he was wearing on the card

Except for Bo Belinsky who wanted his curly locks visible

The photo of Andy Echevaria still haunts my nightmares BTW

Have to see to it that this lead-off double crosses HP.

The variation in pitches and speeds from Gray must drive batters crazy. Looking at the pitch chart on statcast, his velocity and mix is all over the map every inning.
