I had previously tried to find a purveyor of catfish fiddlers here in The Lou without success. Fillets, yes. Nuggets, yes. Fiddlers, no. Which is odd since Whiting fiddlers are pretty common, although they are not called fiddlers, they are called Jack Salmon, for whatever reason. I am sure catfish fiddlers can be had, I just do not know where.
Our periphial guys are now hitting well enough for us to win consistently if our “superstars” decide to contribute. Wednesday perfect example. First inning chance to take the lead they both fail. It would have changed the game. We will be out of the race and booed off the field if they can’t look any better in this homestead than they did Wednesday with a chance to come home on an uptick.
I am sure catfish fiddlers can be had, I just do not know where.
Beautiful question, Bling. Hopefully one of our posters in the greater St. Louis area can steer Bling in the direction of securing himself some tasty fiddlers. But if none can be located, I would think that Catfish filets and/or Catfish nuggets, would be a perfectly acceptable Catfish variant to gain membership into our Friday Night Catfish Fiddler Din-Din Game Thread club. I’ve even heard of people enjoying Catfish stew, Catfish fondue, Catfish tartare and even a super tasty entrée of Catfish masterfully mingled with caviar in a delicious wine sauce, served at some of your finer French restaurants.

My grandma could hit well enough vs Oakland, so let’s not get carried away. The one good showing vs The Crew was encouraging though, I’ll give you that.
When did we play Oakland Bling? And I mean they hit well enough IF the guys who are being paid to carry the team at least pitch in a little. They aren’t at the present time.
Sorry KeepComingBack, as scrumptious as your Culver’s fish combo sounds, it will not allow you to gain coveted entrance into our club. You certainly are just the kind of guy our club needs and you’d fit in like a glove……a baseball glove at that. My suggestion would be to go the distance…..find those Catfish fiddlers and never look back.
After what Boston did to us in our last two head-to-head WS meetings, I see red when I see them. Revenge must be gained. Pretty sweet when we swept them at Fenway a couple (maybe 3?)years ago. But it in no way makes up for losing 2 world series to them in short order. But I’m sure some of their older fans had similar sentiments about our Cardinals heading into the 2004 Fall Classic, since we spanked the RedSox in the ’46 and ’67 WS.

Yeah, after this Red Sox (average team), Orioles (very good team), and Cubs (good team) home stand we will probably know what we’ve got this year.

Yep. If they don’t bring it all together, I’m afraid it’s the end of the road for this management group and veteran players. It should be.

Not to worry as today will INDEED be a CCFF day. CCFF as in Cardinal Catfish Fiddlers Friday. Yum, yum. I might even have a cigar out by the lake afterwards and see if Emily, the hot waitress, comes driving up. Maybe she will notice me..:)
Oh, by the way, the Reds beat the Dodgers and Glasnow last night 7-2.

Someone mentioned not being able to find a place that serves up the fiddler style variety of catfish in the StL. area. I can’t recall the name, but there used to be a place in Alton, IL. that served catfish, buffalo and carp with the bone in. In any case, we frequent a place in StL. County that serves up really good catfish fillets that I’d highly recommend. It’s called King Edwards and is actually a place who’s specialty is fried chicken, but the catfish plate is outstanding and is what we always get.
Super! Looks like we have a 4th Fiddler(TD)in the house and also a 5th(Bling) and 6th(KeepComingBack) right on the verge of taking the plunge. So as of now here’s our Fabulous Four Fiddlers list:
1. Rat – Master Fiddler
2. Pugs – Wannabe Master Fiddler
3. BicycleMike- Our Mile High Fiddler
4. OneToughDominican – Our Gateway FiddlerWith Red Lobster now slowly but surely in the midst of going by the wayside, I’m thinking of a great new restaurant chain idea to pick up the slack. It would feature fresh water fish only, being anchored down by their specialty, Catfish fiddlers. Every location would feature a large outside eating area on either the 2nd or 3rd floor. It’s name……how about “Fiddlers On The Roof”?
I hope to be proven wrong but my honest assesment is that we will go 3-6 on this homestand. Will that be enough to force some changes? Well I will believe it when I see it. In the last 12 months it has been proclaimed on this board probably 20 times that Marmol was one more lost series away from being fired but it hasn’t happened. Besides what we really need is new blood in the front office and that is probably still a year and a half away.

TD I just got home with Catfish fillets and jalapeno hush puppies from King Edwards. I got drenched but the catfish is pristine. It’s not fiddlers though. I might have to arrange a trip to southern Indiana.
That’s outstanding, Bling. Yeah, we love the catfish plate at “King Eddie’s.” I always get the cole slaw and FF’ed taters as the two sides with the pups and an iced tea with lemon. I wish I could remember the name of that place in Alton. It was a walk up and order at the window set-up with outdoor picnic tables to sit down and eat. They specialized in all three of the locally caught bottom feeders (catfish, buffalo and carp) from the river. I used to get the deep fried buffalo served up with two pieces of white bread with sliced onion and pickles. I’d douse it with tobasco. That place was really good, but you had to be careful not to get harpooned in the wind-pipe by one of those bones…Haha!
Pugs: Afraid I’m unable to join the Catfish Fiddler Society. However We had monkfish filets with a slosh of armagnac and a sprinkling of cayenne, which while quite tasty may also may qualify as the ugliest fish on the planet.
Taking a gander at today’s out-of-town scoreboard:
The Pirates down the Cubs 9-3 at Wrigley. The #1 draft choice, Paul Skenes, no-hit the Cubs through the first six innings.
The Brewers and Astros are scoreless in the top of the 1st at the Astrodome.
The Reds and Dodgers are nothing-nothing in the top of the 1st at Doyer Stadium.
And the Doppler Radar does show some green stuff in the metropolitan St. Louis area. But it appears most of it is just south of St. Louis. I expect this game to start on time with no delays.
r/Esteemed Rat <~~~~who ate four (4) Catfish Fiddlers today at the restaurant.
It’s my guess that taking 2 of 3 from the Angels provided a temporary reprieve for the Redbird manager. The Angels looked like a really bad team and I don’t think he’d have survived if the Cardinals had been swept or had lost 2 of 3 out in CA. In any case, the Cardinals now play 9 games in front of a local audience against 3 decent teams on this homestand. If they take to the field and display some lousy baseball I expect to hear more than a murmur or two.
Fiddlers can be hard to find around my part of southern indiana now. Fillets yes but fiddlers can be hard to find. I believe there is a place in mt carmel illinois that serves them. Back in the day there was a place called two tonys in carmi illinois, i believe the name is correct, the fiddlers were piled high. Really about the best place to eat ive ever been to. People came from miles around. Sadly it burnt to the ground quite a few years ago and they never rebuilt.
TD I think you are remembering Beasley’s in Grafton. River fish, picnic tables outside. I have had the Buffalo. The way they fix it is great.
