Looks like Hurricane Beryl might have something to say about whether or not this one is played.

“Hurricane Beryl” almost sounds like it could be the name of a pitcher who had 68 CG’s in 1892…

According to the Weather Channel and Doppler Radar it looks like Beryl has already made it up to the St. Louis and southern Illinois area. We are forecast for rain tomorrow morning here in SW Indiana.

I’d say BikeMike is right, we will be lucky if this game is played Tuesday night.

The BP may be the primary strength of this year’s edition thus far and of the pitchers who’ve worked exclusively in relief appearances, no one’s taken on more of an innings workload than Helsley with his 41 IP’ed and 31 saves. Nearly every member of the relief corps has performed nicely, but placing second in innings workload is Fernandez at 40.2 IP’ed. And Fernandez has been really good. In fact, he’s allowed 2 less ER’s than Helsley and along with the AS Cardinal closer has only surrendered 2 HR’s. He’s also the only member of the entire Redbird pitching staff to boast an ERA under 2.00. And while I’m not expecting him to be the next Johan Santana, he’s still not too shabby for a rule 5 pitcher snagged over the winter. Sometimes these types of guys are better than finding a penny that’s laying heads up on the ground.

Never heard of a tropical rainstorm in St. louis! What the hell??? But this forcast reminded me of the only flood I was ever caught in: it was in mid July 1970 at a summer camp on the banks of the Merrimac river.

I’ve experienced 2 monster hurricanes living in Biloxi, Camille and Katrina but they were not nearly as scary as that flood. The river rose a good 15 feet and was roaring by with the most terrifying splashing rumble you can imagine, moving about 25 MPH carrying cars!

Wondering if it will be worse than 1970. Does anyone here live near that river?

Why would they play the split DH on Wednesday when both teams have Thursday off?

Because if they played on both Wednesday and Thursday, it would extend for two days…This is another ingenious way to speed up the game and get it over with.

I just walked the dog. Not raining. Real men would be out there getting ready to play.

It looks a little like the rain’s quickly moving to the east and they could have played this game. I wonder if they can simply call the fellas on their cell phones and tell them to get their backsides down to the ballpark and go to work? I don’t see anything too complicated about that. It’s what my employers used to do with me and I had the disadvantage of a pager…Haha!

And since it’s a double header it’s only fair you should be paid double time.
