That’s an interesting point. I’d like to know how many pre arb players get their salary repeated after poor results. If the owners want to save money, perhaps this a route. I’m sure the players association wouldn’t want this. But the association doesn’t seem to cater as much to rookies. If you compound the base of salaries the owners would save millions.
I sure hope Roby comes back healthy. He was just beginning to fulfill his promise when he got hurt.

3) what is the program for post Tommy John players? It’s been a year now.With the record the Cards have they should be listening on offers for any player. Romero, May, and Stanek deals make sense. Get something for them. May could get a qualifying offer, but the trouble is he might accept it.
The one big need for us would be to acquire or draft an ace for our rotation. Doyle may be that but has struggled with his secondaries.
I am not in favor of trading Herrera unless we could get something like Romero and Herrera for Sloan. I just don’t know if Seattle has an opening at dh or first base, which would be the position Herrera would fill. Maybe spell Raleigh at catcher infrequently.
I wouldn’t trade Herrera unless we are bowled over with an offer. We need time for Crooks to acclimate (if he can) to MLB pitching, with Bernal and Rodriguez getting reps.
I didn’t realize Davila had been ported to Springfield. Since he got moved to the bullpen he is an interesting prospect.
Another one of the prospects I like is Rincon. He has a Below 3 era in his last 31 1/3 innings with 42 Ks. May be a future bullpen option. He is Rule 5 eligible and a minor league free agent after this season I believe.
The Helsley is looking very good. Jesus Baez could be our next third basemen. He might even make Winn tradeable.
Marilyn, I agree it is a center field is a position of need. But I think Church will figure things out. Unless we acquire a cf or cf prospect I think Baez will be adequate for the time being. Cho may be next in line if he keeps hitting. There is a need for a right handed player who can play center either by the trade deadline or in the offseason.
And add on a May trade. $20 million salary savings next year. Of course, they could take on a small salary.
I was curious about the Cardinals. I checked on Spotrac to find that we are refining $40 million that is coming off the after this year.
I didn’t realize that Stanek is tradeable due to cheap salary. The balance of 2.5 mill is all,it would take for a team to get him.
I think Chaim will be open for business. I think there are those that will be dealt that are on expiring contracts. Bellingers injury may lead the Yankees to pursue Nootbaars. I thought they had some interest in him last offseason. I think others like Fermin, Prieto, and Pages might draw interest. Maybe they could get some relief help for some of those 3.
Wouldn’t be ironic if we get lucky on next years draft lottery and pick 8 or 10 spots higher than our record? Although I think we have a difficult remaining schedule with a poor bullpen. That spells losses. So we’ll likely finish under .500.
If he makes it as a fourth outfielder that normally would be a good outcome, but as a first round pick he should at least be a second division starter.
It’s a shame Hence has went way downhill. I was hopeful he might make a meaningful bullpen arm. Now that even seems unlikely. His very 40 man roster spot is at risk.
It’s incredible how many prospects we have who are among league leaders in homers. The Baez’, Gurevitch, Pena has flown under the radar with numbers at Palm Beach with 15 homers.
